I first heard about him from Z A Bukahri's biography Sarguzasht. Bukahri was director of Bombay All India Radio in those days when he employed Ustad for Radio programs. He mentioned in his book how ustad set 11 songs of film Chnaderlekha in raga Bhairevien. I asked many of my friends from Gujranwala about him but no one could give me any clue until I read in an article that great musician Noshad Ali was also his pupil in Bombay. Years later when I had an opportunity to meet Noshad sahib he confirmed that Ustad Jhanday Khan was one of his mentors. Noshad sahib narrated about a day when as he visited Ustad Jhanday Khan at his residence he found him to be seated on a prayer mat sobbing in tears. When asked as to why he was crying. Ustad narrated his unique experience after morning prayer as a new raga descended on him after the prayers. Ustad was crying in humility of having received the new raga intuitively. Your services to music world are tremendous and unmatched . You are providing us about legends of Hindustani Music who are long forgotten. No words are enough to thank you for this unique service. Thanks again for giving us life history of another legend music director. Ustad Jhanday khan has special attraction for me as I met him in1951 when I was about 11 years of age. I used to visit the family off and on in Mohalla Tuttian Gujranwala. His wife was a very beautiful and graceful lady popularly known as Angraizen(english) lady. He had three sons, Munawar, Shafqat, Saif and daughter, know as Baby who was a true replica of her mother. All of them are dead by now. Their house was the most beautiful building of Gujranwala, having marble floors and exterior walls. His room was full of indian instruments. At the end I wish good luck and janat after their death. He is laid in grave near his middle son Munawar grave. Ustad grave remnants are still there as it was made of marble. Thanks again for taking me back to those days when I had the opportunity of seeing this beautiful family.

I also had the privilege of knowing the family in that Mohalla which is adjacent to a n other Sikh Mohalla Guru Nanik pura. His wife was a true copy of an English lady. But I must add here that she, unlike English ladies, had ery sharp features. I have visited so many times their graves, as my parents are als buried nearby. This spot is known as Mizaar of Daachi Wala. I pray for their salvation and hope to visit them as and when I happen to pray there for my parents. Finally i thank the gentleman for bringing the memory of another legend of music in very entertaining way.😅

For the first time I heard late Naushad Sahab in an interview referring Ustad Jhande Khan Sahab's name from whom he learnt a lot of music .
