Congradulations Nick and Lisa on your new cottage! I also follow The Irish Homestead and hope you may also apply for the Vacant Property Refurbishment Grant as they did to help you build up your new home. Best Wishes to you both I can't waite to see all your vlogs and new build.
Hi, we did this 2 years ago and have just started documenting our journey. Your excitement is infectious. Good luck to you both. It can be tough, but ye won't regret it. It's an amazing, beautiful country, and the Irish people are second to none 🇮🇪
Hi guys , firstly welcome to Ireland. Did you know that the Irish government gives a grant of up to €70000 to repurpes derelict houses because of the housing shortage here. You need to pay for and complete the house to a livable standard within 13 months and they then reimburse you to whatever amount they agreed on. Check out " off grid Irish homestead" another English couple doing exactly that. Hope this helps.
Thank you! Everyone has been so welcoming and it’s amazing! We just want to fit in, restore the cottage in a traditional manner and contribute to the community positively 🙂
I like your high tech set up, but we all have to start somewhere. 😂 I wouldn’t sweat it. Wow, what a journey. I liked and subscribed. You both are hilarious. I look forward to your journey. Thank you for sharing.❤
Oh wow! We didn’t expect to reach people all over the world! Lisa has been to Melbourne once before and loved it! We have a video out tonight and then another larger catch up in about a week! As fast as we can make it!
Welcome! Looking forward to watching your progress from my little acre down here in Kerry. Ex-pat Yank thrilled to see all the cottages being reclaimed.
Just found your channel! Love it. Lisa, you sounded just like Little Johns wife in Kevin Costners Robin Hood movie when you said “my lover”😂 Loving your sense of humour, for sure! You are both so excited, it’s catching because I’m excited for you too. Looking forward to seeing more videos. Very excited for your journey. 👍🇨🇦
Nick and Lisa, HELLO from Coronado, CA USA. Congratulations on your wee dwelling! I am looking forward to watching your videos. Laughter is a good thing! I have lots of family in Kerry. Thank you for sharing.
Hello guys, so entertaining watching your first video. Happy New Year and good luck, I will definitely be looking forward to following your journey. Greetings from South Africa.👍
Hi Nick and Lisa, well, this might prove to be interesting... looking forward to seeing where it goes and learning more about your plans for the renovation. We are planning to move to our house in Mayo in the next few weeks, purchased around the same time you bought yours, our house is non standard build, in bad state, but the land and stone outbuildings make it our happy place :)
Oh wow, how exciting! Is it liveable or are you staying onsite or nearby? Do you have a Facebook page or similar? Would be great to compare notes when we are back out (in May!)
Very interesting video. Your positive outlook is infectious and i am looking forward to future videos about your new venture. Not for the faint hearted I’m sure. Good luck.
Can't wait to see your progress on this 'project'. I enjoyed this first video and look forward to the next. I've subscribed to your channel so good luck on your journey ❤
Hey Guys, looking forward to watching your adventure. I’m from Dublin but have taken on something similar in country South Australia. I have searing heat to contend with rather than the rain in Ireland. Was always a dream to do it in Ireland but it didn’t work out. The grant there now makes it such a good deal and helps save derelict buildings all over the country. Good luck
No, it will be more of a retirement project. I have it a couple of years. It’s 300km from where I live which makes it hard but I love it. Like you guys, I’d be lucky if a car drove by within a couple of days plus not being Ireland, the skies are clear most nights and the stars are amazing. It was always abandoned houses all over Ireland that sparked my interest as a kid. There is one house in Kerry that I’d come home tomorrow for but it’s not to be. Anyway, I know it will be hard at times but well worth it in the end. I don’t know what it is with our friends over the water buying Irish wrecks but it’s saving all these old houses that’s would otherwise be reclaimed by nature and it repopulates the local communities which is awesome. 👍
A nice passive way to clear the brambles would be goats, borrow or buy, fence them where you want them cleared and they'll destroy them :) GL with the renovation ❤
@@BuildingtheNestIreland If it’s electric wire maybe but anything close to the fence enables them to climb or jump over. Goats are fun but sometimes hard to keep in.
@@BuildingtheNestIrelandI doubt it. Sheep wire with one or two strands of electric on top at a minimum I would say. Plain wire you would need 5 rows and all electrified. Needs to be close to the ground too because they will try and get under. You can buy high wire for deer and alpacas that would work but it’s not cheap. That’s why you often see goats tied. They’re really hard to fence effectively. The old saying is that if it will hold water, it might hold goats. Also true for huskies.
Welcome to Ireland 🥰 You are both a lovely couple & really enjoying your journey 🏡 I’ve watched half of the 1st video but have to get up before the morning slips by 😂 It’s like Netflix I am so looking forward to watching the rest of it 😊
Hehe thanks for the watching, we really appreciate it! Hope you had a productive or relaxing day and get the chance to watch the other half at some point!
Welcome to our beautiful country, yous seem to be a very happy and lovely couple and I wish every Happiness and a long and Healthy life in your new beautiful home. Godbless 😊.
What a lovely comment to read, thank you so much. Ireland is a stunning country with the most amazing people! We feel humbled, grateful and excited about being able to move there. My great grandparents were Irish and so it’s lovely to think of completing a circle and heading back there.
OMG you are both very brave good thing you have a good sense of humour think you are going to need it taking on this long arduous task Good Luck cant wait to see your progress From Hong Kong
I can relate to you quite a bit. The “day trips”. Yep, we never leave our dogs. I hate the byway this country has been built up and all the noise. I want to live more rural despite living on the each of a kent village. My grandmother came from Ireland and I love it. Alas I think I have left it too late to start a new life but I look forward to coming along with you and your adorable dogs. Good luck with your journey and never lose sight xx
Hi guys! I cannot believe it! We looked at this house in Nov 2022! We nearly put an offer in but were about to go off travelling and didn't want to commit right that minute. The estate agent called us to say an offer had been made and did we want to make an offer! We may have been bidding against you. 😂 Good luck with the renovation it will be so satisfying. I loved that place too! I said to Sam numerous times around Europe we should have put an offer in. 😂
Good luck with the cottage and also with the channel. There’s a lot of work in both but, if you have the energy for 3 collies, I’m sure you will make it happen.
Maybe watching the channel of the Irish Homestead. They’re also from the UK, bought an old derelict farm and are restoring it, in a beautyful way. Can’t wait to follow you’re jerney
Hurrah, this is exactly what I need a bright and lovely, positive couple following dreams to help me keep my mind busy. I’m also in Cornwall and was caring for both my parents until dad sadly passed away a few weeks ago. Although elderly it was sudden so a bit of a shock and a reality check especially as mum is almost 94yrs old. My dream is eventually to do the same thing so it’s focused my mind to start preparing. New business ideas have been in the wings for a number of years but now I’m thinking I need to start acting instead of just sitting with ideas. I’m really excited to see how your journey unfolds and am grateful for all the snippets of info. Who knew putting in an offer was different?? By the way, I’m sure you’ve already found them but RUclipsrs Campervibe are doing a similar thing so check out their videos on pointing and French ditches etc!
Oh I’m so sorry to hear about that - it’s always such a shock, even if already elderly. So glad to hear the videos help - we will have some more out soon! If you need any specific info (from the little we know) then happy to share!
Thankyou that’s so kind! Not sure if you know (Campervibe) they have a particular vlog that goes through Q&A on their move to Ireland……. You pay some kind of import charges on tools etc really would be worth a watch with loads of moving info if you haven’t seen it already! Oh and of course if you haven’t already moved 😁
We do watch them, they are amazing aren’t they! We’ve half moved out - we were out last summer and are moving permanently to the site in May of this year!
I'm sold and a subscriber. Anyone who can laugh at themselves and their adventures in this major change in life are OK in my book. BTW, you have got your work cut out for you in that cottage, but you both more than realize that.
Congratulaitons on your House Purchase and you are very welcome to Ireland. I hope your dreams of living in rural Ireland come through. I would respectfully advise you to contact the Local Council to avail of a Goverment Scheme which give Substantial Grants for Abandoned Rural Properties....The Info you may require should be on line....Good hunting.... Mark Dublin
I just found your channel, I think the algorithm must’ve heard me saying I’m waiting to get my Irish passport and look for Land out in Ireland with a nice little Croft or something to see your journey😊❤
Oh my lord, I can’t stop laughing I’m so sorry but you one animals please don’t be scared of horses next time that happens standstill Backstraight standout, strong and wave your arms to the side up and down. They will move under no circumstances start freaking out because the animals for freak out get worse bless you both😂❤ . Property with the red house, and the horses looks like one that I was looking at myself
Ah great, best of luck with your search! Plenty of old cottages on daft.ie, particularly in the West. Also not sure if you know, but UK nationals can live and work in the Republic without any visas. Same as Irish citizens can do the same in the UK. It’s called the common travel agreement and predates the EU
@ yeah I know just I have my And out in Spain and Portugal and I need my passport for over there. I meant to say really, but at the moment my English passport has been put on hold until I get my new passport which will be the Irish one so I can travel anywhere take care can’t wait to see the rest of your videos.
Your video kinda popped up on my screen. Hey, yer brave, but yer absolutely right to follow yer dream. I am looking forward to following your journey to rural Ireland. Hey, the person who said auctioneers in Ireland are gangsters...if that commenter had bad experience, sorry to think that. No.. in general people in Ireland are very kind.funny.helpful.decent and honest..ye will discover this over next while. Ye are nice people excited about moving here so people will appreciate that genuineness and offer advice and help. I am sure ye are aware there are grants available to bring these derelict buildings back into use. Check up on those asap. Try and get the keys to the cottage regardless of the lack of a door because those old keys can be beautiful. I wish ye all the luck with the move...it will all be ok. I absolutely get what you meant with the other cottages if surrounded by forestry trees. Don't like those either they are just swathes of green that block light and never change with seasons. Ye went with yer gut and good sense and bought right place for ye and yer animals. It's gonna be a very exciting time for ye..congrats. Welcome to our lovely country.
Thank you for the lovely comment and welcome. Yeah we have found 99.9% of people are absolutely lovely, warm and welcoming, which has been really humbling. We are very lucky indeed to have set out on this path where Ireland will soon be our permanent home! 🙂
We bought a French house and it was so bad my friend asked were we drunk when we bought it... but you have to have a bit of vision either that or be absolutely bonkers.. Good luck with your renoavtion.. nothing a pot of paint won't help..
Haha that’s so funny! To be honest we’ve found that all the things in life that are most worth doing are the things people are the most negative about at first! Trust your instincts I say!
Looking forward to seeing a bit more of your journey, we are originally from the Westcountry and Yorkshire and also have absolutely no idea what we are doing half the time! Good luck
There are about seven English couples that have moved and bought cottages in Ireland on you tube , it seems to be a trend at the moment , really look into the grant situation as its definitely not buy a cottage get 70 grand, , unfortunately, look forward to following you and your adventures 😊
Any wonder young Irish couples are imirgrating, due to the influx of English people coming buying up all the houses, for a long time the Irish were the dirt on their shoes and since Brexit there all moving
We’re not going for the grant as it doesn’t suit our situation. Ours will therefore take longer, but as we are doing all of it ourselves, it all kind of works! We honestly hadn’t seen anyone else do it when we decided to buy an old cottage, but realised since, as you say, that we are far from the first!
Congratulations on getting the property. I follow several of derelict Irish home renovations. 1. Camper vibe 2. The Irish homestead 3. Irish homestead off grid 4. West county cork homestead (or something like that) 5. I can't remember the name of the last one. I hope yours is as fun as the 1st 3 I mentioned as I religiously watch them every episode that they put out, they're very fun, interesting and knowledgeable about what they're doing (or rather they study on how to do what they do). Hopefully you'll get to know them and maybe you can exchange help. Like you help them and they help you. It'll also help to grow your channel. Good luck, I have subscribed and hit the bell to get future notifications. I'm glad I caught this video, because I like to watch from the beginning (which I didn't with #4 &5 above which is probably why I'm not as interested in those as much, I just catch them here or there even though I'm still subscribed to them.
Thank you! We follow @campervibe and Irish homestead but will check out the others! We’ve a video coming out tonight that should reassure you we are not planning on being too dry…. Hehe!
I moved from Cornwall lived in Ireland 20 years ago lived on friends land till found land wanted to buy.sound stream miggies couple weeks in summer.lucky to find dry spot hope your be happy.only thing with isolation ,sometimes safety having few neighbors lot gipsy on the rob
It is mostly dry! Helped by sloping site and will be even better once we redig the drainage ditches! Where did you live in Cornwall? Our house is right down the end near Penzance
Excited for you to pursue your dream. I follow a few Brits who have purchased 'derelict' homes and it's not for the faint of heart but hey ho, with enough enthusiasm, I'm sure you will conquer. Are you pursuing the $70,000 grant for derelict homes?
Irrelevant now, but the asking price is certainly not a starting point. Offers under the asking price is of course how to start. I think accepting what an Irish estate agent says was the mistake. But I am happy you got through the process and have a lovely property. In your delivery maybe use less terms like bizarre, creepy, shocking. It comes across over critical. There is another English youtube couple who constantly commented on the things they found in their derelict house, such as 'why would someone do that' and spoke of bodge jobs and dodgy workmanship, these are houses from a different time, when people had very little resources and did their best.
Hi there, Some very good points - we didn’t mean to imply anything negative about the people that lived there. We were more commenting on the experience of visiting derelict buildings that have been abandoned for half a century or more. That’s what makes it feel creepy. I can imagine when they were lived in they were wonderful homes - very much what we want to bring back!
@BuildingtheNestIreland I too didn't mean to come across as critical of you guys, but I am so in love with Ireland and the countryside I am too defensive. I am also aware of the hardship and poverty the people who lived in these old houses experienced. I am sure you follow 'The Irish Homestead', but these guys have nailed it on you tube, surprising themselves.
Totally get that - Ireland is an incredible country! And the countryside is out of this world mind-blowing! So amazing! When we put our planning in we emphasised our intention to restore the cottage sensitively and in keeping with traditions both local and national :)
Auctioneers in Ireland are gangsters, that house at 28:00 is a lot more solid than the rubbish you’ve already looked at. The first house was only fit for demolition and that galvanised red roofed house wasn’t much better. The only problem is that the road is half way up the gable end, would that not cause dampness? I didn’t see the cracks until you went inside, looks solid on the outside. The block extension is a joke block on edge 😂😂😂 are you going for the grant? What’s the story?
Haha yeah the first one really was! Just an expensive building plot, having to cart away the rubble! But we did love the red roofed one! Could imagine it being restored! The wet house would have been great if it was on a drier plot. The videos didn’t do justice to just how wet it was!
Yes we have, thank you. It wouldn’t work for us because of our timescales (you need to complete the work in a year if you want the grant, which means having all the money upfront and doing it much quicker than we could do). Thanks for the heads up though!
Best of luck with the project and hope you’ll be very happy there. Also, look up a man called Garron Noone. Charles is no longer your king. Garron is. He is the undisputed King of Mayo.
Are you going to name your house? Its probably listed as a smallholding. Does it face East? Could you remove one wall and have sliding doors in a glass wall. I saw an orchard, at least a tree in blossom. 🎉🎉🎉
Oh we love them! They are the first RUclips series that we ever watched! We hope to have lots of animals too so there will be a good mix of things to include in the videos.
You need to be very aware that the line drawn on the site map may not match boundaries in existence, like that red roofed building. Only to discover that the neighbouring farmer has farmed it. I had to deal with this and then actually ended up buying a section of it back. However, I've got on brilliantly with my neighbours. But yes, that boundary line needs to be clarified ..good dodge I reckon.
Oh no! That sounds stressful but glad you worked it out with your neighbours! Yeah that definitely put us off the red roofed house. The lines were also wrong on the one we bought - got it confirmed with coordinates so it was clear what we were buying!
The reason a lot of people in Ireland didn’t want to restore old cottages are manifold. Often builders didn’t want to touch them because a new build was easier. These days builders are more likely to take on restoration jobs. Information on how to do the work yourself was far harder to come by pre-Internet so tackling it yourself wasn’t really an option. The reasons they became derelict are also many. Before remote working was a possibility, people needed to be less remote from their jobs and many/most derelict cottages were found in places where there was very little employment. Often an old resident died or emigrated and died overseas and left the property to a relative who maybe didn’t need the house but just farmed the land. And people often tried to keep them in better condition but in such a damp climate and before dehumidifiers etc, keeping an old cottage with no central heating was nigh on impossible. So people are doing it nowadays but it wasn’t always because people didn’t want to keep them habitable that they fell in disrepair.
The first house is basically a site. It can be hard to get planning permission for a new build and buying an existing house often allows you to get planning for a replacement house much easier. People will often buy a complete wreck with little historical or architectural value with demolition and replacement in mind.
That’s all really interesting, thank you. We will do our best to restore it in a traditional and sympathetic manner, bringing back to what it is meant to be! 🙂
Too often you’re buying a dream but it’s really a nightmare just waiting for the gullible, innocent, unsuspecting dreamer. Agents use very creative language to try and put a positive spin on the dumps their trying to offload! Honestly the devil you know is better than the devil you don’t . No heat, too much water, bad weather, lack of skilled laborers, price of materials if you can get materials to your site, no bathrooms, running water or even hydro can break the best of relationships. I wish you luck, you’re going to need it. What about closeness to medical, grocery stores, hardware suppliers etc? You can’t trust photos. Neighbors people close by are an absolute asset, providing you get along. There are many situations where you need an extra pair of hands or advice.
Due to our house in Cornwall not selling for two years, we’ve had plenty of time to plan! We are back out permanently in May and can then put the plan into action!
May I also strongly recommend that if you are successful in your dream please ensure that your dogs are sheep friendly. Otherwise you'll need to keep them fenced in...not easily done if they get a taste for chasing sheep. I learned the hard way but luckily no serious damage . Also I would be concerned about that tree close to the property . Climate change has increased storm activity here.
@BuildingtheNestIreland That would be my number one piece of advice as well. Keep your dogs fenced in and on a lead at all times on walks near farm land. Even the friendliest farmer would have no qualms shooting any dogs chasing sheep on his land. The countryside is not an easy place to have a collie as a pet, they will realise what they were born to do. If they get away from you for even 20 seconds they could do huge damage chasing sheep and causing them to miscarry. Even if they have zero interest in sheep but have been seen roaming, they could be blamed for a sheep attack. Not trying to be negative, I've just seen this happen a lot! The biggest sign of respect you could show your neighbours is to have your dogs under control at all times. Best of luck with anything!
Totally understand that concern. Coming from Cornwall we’ve had the same thing with so many people wanting to live here. Our particular cottage had been abandoned for 50 odd years, and on the market for several years (at a very low price) without any interest. That was important for us as we didn’t want to feel like we were taking something that someone else might want. All the locals we’ve met weren’t interested and thought it should be knocked down and used as grazing!
Ten minutes in, and I really think that you have picked the wrong Country. Your Queens English, does not give you a certain privilege for the Irish Estate Agent, to make up for your uneducated knowledge of purchasing in Ireland. He obviously deals with people all over the world, who do their homework before even attempting to navigate the Irish house purchasing market. Throwing your eyes up, everytime you disapprove of something that is different , doesn’t ingratiate you to your new country or people. Watch ‘The Irish Homestead’ and other RUclips videos from English People who really have embraced Ireland and are working hard to make their forever homes. ‘A Transmitter for the one Farmer that goes past’, was the most condescending comment, that made me finally decide to switch off. Do Better.
Aw I’m sorry we are not for you. Funnily enough my family are from Ireland, and we are actually from Cornwall. admittedly England but not by choice. There’s a fair old overlap, also being Celtic. Trust me when I say we are not looking down on anything to do with Ireland - from what we’ve seen it’s far superior!
Again. Another video of english people moving to Ireland, because of the availability of government grants. People here do want them the types of property you've bought - contrary to what you say. There is a housing crisis here and those derilict house grants were brought in to help people get housing but as per usual it has served the forign landlords with the bigger purse. Unfortunetly it hasnt safeguarded against Gentrification at all. Would you have bought this property if there was no Grant? Its mad you havnt lived, worked or payed tax here but those grants are available to you. Its sickening.
Actually, we purchased the house before the grant came out. And we are not getting the grant anyway as it doesn’t work in our situation. Also, our cottage was empty for 50 odd years and available for sale for a very low amount (cost of an average car) for two years without any interest from anyone else. Finally, we have been living and paying tax in the state. Just to let you know the facts - always worth checking that before shouting your mouth off online.
English accents at least! In any case, our cottage was abandoned for 45 years. It was up for sale for two years with no takers. So we are happy we are not taking anything that anyone else wants at least :)
your horsey encounter was hilarious, they were just saying "come on mate, we just want to play"
Hehe yeah I’m not sure what got into me as I like horses normally! It might have been because I felt a bit like I was trespassing! It’s weird being told to show yourself round someone else’s property!
I think this is the 4th Irish renovation I'm now following. I think I've become addicted 😅.
Us too! It definitely is addictive! Spread the word though as we are only small! 🙂

Hehe thanks! It kind of did the job! So glad you’ve enjoyed so far - next video should be out soon!
As you've learned, estate agents' descriptions of houses are an art form in themselves. Good luck with the renovations.
Hehe they certainly are! We were impressed by their vision!
Hi Guys!
Welcome to Ireland.
Delighted it all worked out for ye!
Best of luck going forward
Thanks so much! Really kind of you to say! We just need to restore the cottage now - easy!

I don’t know what it is with our friends over the water buying Irish wrecks but it’s saving all these old houses that’s would otherwise be reclaimed by nature and it repopulates the local communities which is awesome. 👍
Really looking forward to the next vlog already x
Aw thanks! We hope to have little video out tomorrow evening and then another bigger catch up in a week or so! :)
A nice passive way to clear the brambles would be goats, borrow or buy, fence them where you want them cleared and they'll destroy them :) GL with the renovation ❤
That’s a great idea! Lisa would love to have goats! Would a two wire fence keep a couple of adults in? I hear they are escape artists!
Oh wow that’s a lot of fencing needed! Love the old saying too! Thanks for your help - we will know not to cheap out on the fencing!
I love the Buffalo Bills sweatshirt! Good choice moving to Ireland!
Hehe we love the Bills! And Josh Allen is in amazing form this year! We are looking forward to getting into the Irish sports too!
welcome to Ireland and i’m loving your little cottage. i’m excited for ye both as i always dreamed of having a cottage
Depending on how our renovation goes we may burst your bubble! Hehe
Can't wait to follow you on your journey to renovate the house. You both sound so positive and easy to watch. Good luck with everything.
Aw thank you, that’s lovely to hear!
Welcome to Ireland 🥰
You are both a lovely couple & really enjoying your journey 🏡 I’ve watched half of the 1st video but have to get up before the morning slips by 😂 It’s like Netflix I am so looking forward to watching the rest of it 😊
Hehe thanks for the watching, we really appreciate it!
Haha thank you, I think! We definitely know how to laugh at ourselves, which might be useful in this!
It’s never too late! And there’s plenty of cottages that need less work than ours! 🙂
Great first video look forward to following your journey :)
Oh wow!! We’ve just pinged you a message on Facebook! 🙂
Good luck with the cottage and also with the channel. There’s a lot of work in both but, if you have the energy for 3 collies, I’m sure you will make it happen.
Oh yes! They keep us on our toes! Wouldn’t be without them though!
@ youtube.com/@dogfriendlyni?si=2NsZ3lsqXZJvTtDC
Our 2 year old.
Oh wow they are gorgeous! I love their colouring and marking! Collies are the best! ❤️
Maybe watching the channel of the Irish Homestead. They’re also from the UK, bought an old derelict farm and are restoring it, in a beautyful way. Can’t wait to follow you’re jerney
Oh yeah they are great! We’ve watched their whole back catalogue and are very inspired by them!
They have commented, having viewed this property
I saw, amazing!
Best of luck and welcome
Thanks so much!
I'm sold and a subscriber. Anyone who can laugh at themselves and their adventures in this major change in life are OK in my book. BTW, you have got your work cut out for you in that cottage, but you both more than realize that.
Ah thanks! Got to be able to laugh at things! And yeah we really do! It’s going to get a lot worse before it gets better too!
Mark
Dublin
Hi Mark,
Thank you so much for the warm welcome - everyone has been so wonderful with welcoming us! We’ve definitely made the right decision!
Thanks so much for that. I think I was on edge as I knew I was in someone else’s land as well! But I will try that next time!
Oh I see! Hope it comes through soon! :)
Wow I just found your channel. That is quite a start to finding a property in Ireland. Best of luck to you.
Thank you! We will have some more videos up soon!
Don’t forget to look into the grants available. 😊
We have had a look at that but they don’t suit our situation - we will explain in a later video! Thanks though!
Looking forward to seeing a bit more of your journey, we are originally from the Westcountry and Yorkshire and also have absolutely no idea what we are doing half the time! Good luck
Oh wow, you’ve gone for a warmer climate I see! That could be a good call!
If travelling to the West, use IRELAND WEST AIRPORT in Knock County Mayo.
Congrats on your new property😊.. may your journey be fruitful!!❤
Thank you! We hope sooooo!
Congratulations on getting the property. I follow several of derelict Irish home renovations.
1. Camper vibe
2. The Irish homestead
3. Irish homestead off grid
4. West county cork homestead (or something like that)
Hehe!
Fantastic
No grant for us - doing it the slow and hard way!
Good luck with it all 🙂x
Irrelevant now, but the asking price is certainly not a starting point. Offers under the asking price is of course how to start. I think accepting what an Irish estate agent says was the mistake. But I am happy you got through the process and have a lovely property. In your delivery maybe use less terms like bizarre, creepy, shocking. It comes across over critical. There is another English youtube couple who constantly commented on the things they found in their derelict house, such as 'why would someone do that' and spoke of bodge jobs and dodgy workmanship, these are houses from a different time, when people had very little resources and did their best.
Hi there,
Some very good points - we didn’t mean to imply anything negative about the people that lived there.
Welcome I live up North x
Thank you! 🙏 🙂
Have you have looked into the vacant property grant?
Yes we have, thank you. It wouldn’t work for us because of our timescales (you need to complete the work in a year if you want the grant, which means having all the money upfront and doing it much quicker than we could do). Thanks for the heads up though!
Subscribed! ❤
Thanks so much! Lisa is going to start work on the next catch up video in the next few days. Hope to have it out in about a week!
Good luck. Can’t wait to see your journey. Take a look at the “Irish homestead”. It’s going to be a lot of work. I hope you have a caravan.
Best of luck with the project and hope you’ll be very happy there.
Also, look up a man called Garron Noone. Charles is no longer your king. Garron is. He is the undisputed King of Mayo.
Hehe I will look him up! 🙂
Are you going to name your house? Its probably listed as a smallholding. Does it face East? Could you remove one wall and have sliding doors in a glass wall. I saw an orchard, at least a tree in blossom. 🎉🎉🎉
We have named it actually! We will probably reveal that in the video after the next one! 🙂
Whereabouts in Ireland is the cottage ? Name of the county will do.
Co. mayo
Hi, guys. Do follow The Irish Homestead, a couple from the UK . Sam and Becca with the kids. Follow from their first videos. 🎉🎉
welcome
Thank you!🙏
In Ireland there is a government grant of E50000 to renovate a derelict house, u should look into that
Thank you for letting us know. Unfortunately the grant doesn’t work for our situation, which I’m sure we will discuss soon!
Did you see the shadow figure in the corner when you were filming the property you brought 😮
Oh don’t worry about him - that’s Tom. He can be a bit grumpy but generally not too much trouble! 😂
Welcome to the Emarald Isle check out The Irish Homestead looking forward to your journey
hey guys that wants to play with the ball you are holding lisa....lol
That’s Robyn and she loves balls!
We are back out permanently in May and can then put the plan into action!
i am still faffing about at 70 its great
Never too old to faff around in life! In fact, it’s recommended!
Don’t worry, our neighbour is a sheep farmer and he is quite impressed with our girls!
Very good advice - we do that naturally. They are always kept on our land and under control. We wouldn’t dream of letting them roam anywhere!
have you heard of Howard Gardner-building trainer-i think he would suit U2- great book too-welcome again and GOOD LUCK-x
We will look that up - thank you!
Good choice look forward to following your restoration journey Clive Julie Normandy
build new house away from road make huge storage shed over time out it in time
But the history of the house!!
God help ye is all i can say!
Hehe that’s ominous! I would say we are young and stupid, but in my case I’m just stupid I guess! Happy New Year!
The horses did not attack you.
It was a close call, I almost died….. :op
Irish acres are bigger than UK acres
Are they actually?
@BuildingtheNestIreland yep they are the equivalent of 1.6 UK acres
How interesting! We have more than we thought!
The more people who move to Ireland to do this actually prices Irish people out of the market.
More English great
English accents at least! In any case, our cottage was abandoned for 45 years. It was up for sale for two years with no takers. So we are happy we are not taking anything that anyone else wants at least :)
Whereabouts in Ireland is the cottage ? Name of the county will do.
Co. Mayo 🙂
