Nah, he hid a fear of people behind the smile, never let them get to close by keeping everything on the surface with jokes. I understand he only dropped that around his kids, because he didn't feel threatened by them. And he wasn't sad or depressed. He had a degenerative illness, kind of like what Bruce Willis is going through right now. And he didn't want to live through all of that. My mom let herself die rather than live with Multiple Sclerosis, which is an entirely manageable condition. Depressed? No. She was pissed off that she was sick.
I've heard the comedoams.siffer with depression. Bit, as I heard ot, Robin was diagnosed with a.incurable duplicating and ultimately fatal disease. He made a choice. I dont know if it was the r8ght or wrong one. It's not my place He is so deeply missed to my very croe...from hook to toys to jamji to Popeye to mork....to the frog Prince....he was a gift from God he was!

@@raynekraven You better believe it had a game. It's on Super Nintendo and you use a bunch of toys to take out the toy weapons that are guarding the surveillance cameras. Its....ok.
did you notice the 9/11 conspiracy allusions, too? lots of scenes, including the climax, taking place inside a Manhattan model with a plane. there is a plume of smoke rising from the World Trade Center at one hour, nine minutes, and eleven seconds.
I really like this movie, too. Visually, it's a stunner, and who knew it would predict military drone technology, VR goggles, and 3D monitors that didn't require glasses?
At 1:32, it almost sounds like Auto-Tune, but give the time this was made it probably was some sort of vocoder or perhaps extreme noise reduction used for artistic effect.
Autotune tech is not new, it's just that the general package called "AutoTune" has existed since 1996/1997. Overall, pitch correction tech itself has been around much longer, since at least the 70's, with rudimentary methods utilized before that.
As much as I adore Robin Williams and Joan Cusack in the film... their singing is, um, bad in an technically acoustic sense ;) It works in the scene, but not so much as a stand-alone song. BTW: This song is operating on like 5 different levels. The old Shakespeare "play within a play" but dialed up to 11.
Eventide Harmonizer with band-pass filter. There are a lot of sample textures as the instrumental backing was made with hundreds of samples on a Fairlight CMI III.
Those are the Promo Cassette. It is the same type of packaging that cassette singles used to use, with no top or bottom so the cassette can slide out easily.
How come these new artist don't feel they have anything to learn from the old Masters? No collaborations just this insane sense of "no direction" just stupid music...
Well back then with enough cocaine and possibly ecstasy and being at a certain age this movie could have quite been very influential to somebody's art in their future especially if they became a musician or some kind of artist I do remember some crazy awesome scenery in the film but I also thought it was quite lousy LMAO but you got to hand it to Thomas Dolby for being a badass musician no matter how you look at it. Everybody should listen to the songs he did for the soundtrack to a CGI film called the gate to the Mind's Eye. Possibly the greatest score ever put to any film
I wish the Williams/Cusack version had been released on the soundtrack.
@lordvishnu It is a lost cause, sadly....

Rip to a great actor Robin Williams we still miss you
This was the best early 90's music video in the way that Dare To Be Stupid was the best DEVO music video.
Yes I agree 👍💯
Dare to be Stupid was “Weird Al” Yankovic. Not Devo lol

very sad Robin decided to end his life. The suffering he had was great
it goes to say behind great smiles there are often great sorrows
He died 6 years ago.

You see flickers of it in What Dreams May Come. And its chilling. Especially when you get to the parts dealing with suicide.

Getting a Talking Heads vibe.
Honestly thought it was Danny Elfman/ Oingo Boingo. Could give DEVO a run for it's money.

Valley of the Mind's Eye is my favorite Dolby song. His serious music is the best and his comedic side just showcases his genius

Thomas's score to Gate to the Mind's Eye is why I write music. The best artist to be called one who influences our songs
Why isn’t this on Spotify. :(

Or just use a youtube video download site. Save as .mp3

Probably sampled and replayed through a synth, somewhere in beetwen a vocoder and a talk box.
