I remember how absolutely clogged those culverts were when you first tackled them. They're looking fantastic now and needed just a wee bit of maintenance; shame about the trash though. I wish that people would dispose of their trash responsibly. Thanks for the return video

Hooray! Wow, you guys have been dealing with so much flooding. I would bet you saved a few businesses and roadways with your maintenance last year. I think it is awesome that you are that kind of behind the scenes hero. Thank you!

Why do people insist on dumping garbage where it doesn’t belong? Are we in a society that no longer cares about the earth and how we are polluting it? I’m glad there are people like you that are interested in the environment and trying to do your best to help it. Thank you so much for what you do. Your videos are very interesting and I will continue to watch. God bless you KAT from Birmingham, Alabama.

Cuz, Thanks for the clean out and for the walkout at the end. Things definitely don’t look the same right after winter. Be Safe.

Yep, remember those culverts from the first time you worked hard to clean them up. That hard work really paid off, looks like it was much easier this time round.
Regarding the trash you find it seems that streams and rivers are a magnet for people to dump stuff. I live very close to the tidal end of the river Thames here in the UK and generally go for a daily walk along the riverside trail. We've had some fairly high spring tides of late and it washes up all sorts of junk on to the foreshore. A lot of it appears to come from ships and there's a fair share of driftwood too.

Good to see that your hard work from before on this culvert has stayed pretty clear. That must really flood at times due to the size of the tunnels.

I wasn't expecting that at all! Seems a good flood now and then can actually Help. Was nice to see the water running clear again. Looked like the carpenter ants were trying to finish off what some beavers had started. You had perfect weather and did another great job! 👍😊

I used to explore a lot of tunnels and old canals, buildings, etc when I was a kid in the 70s and 80s
Really amazing old infrastructure that everyone has forgotten about
But the one item on my bucket list that I never got to explore, that other people did and told me was incredible, was the giant pipe near the Congress St Bridge on the Watervliet side.
The pipe is actually a huge network for the city and there are tunnels, ladders, doors and a huge lost infrastructure from the start of the city.
This was originally a valley, a small river ran through the city and they had to build a tunnel to build the city on top of it and they hooked everything into it.
It was originally a wooden structure circa 1700 and then a stone lined tunnel and I believe around 1890 they used cement and dug out the original tunnels because of a massive flood and they made a huge culvert that ran the whole length of the city and it connected to the Erie power canal, the Erie navigation canal and the Champlain canal.
It was a part of the interchange for the two canals and there was a large basin in Menands just south of there where the boats would come up the Hudson River and enter the Champlain or Erie canal and pay their first toll
I remember when they built the federal lock in Troy and the one in Mechanicville
Prior to those, I remember the entire Hudson River in Waterford and Lansingburg draining out when the tide went out and it was only about 10 feet wide and you could walk across it in the summer
I remember watching the barges come up to Troy when the oil tanks were there, and the tanks at 112th St and I watched the 112th street bridge open to allow the navy vessels to come for repairs in Cohoes at Peebles Island.
I remember the trolley tracks going down Ontario St, crossing the 4 tracks of the D&H and going across the 112th street bridge
I remember when the D&H ran above High and along the Hudson from Green Island and all the plants there that they serviced.
So much infrastructure that is gone now
But if you ever get a chance, I would love to see a video of the Watervliet tunnel
It takes 3 hours to walk it. Bring lots of lights and batteries
And if you want some other challenges I have a bunch I can tell you about

That sounds fascinating. I’d love to see a video of it. I’m from leith, Edinburgh in Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 and my grandfather was a docker in Leith Docks. I remember him taking me for walks round the docks and telling me about all the reclaimed land, showing me all the huge ships and tankers anchored in the docks and telling me all about their cargoes and what lands they were sailing to. Sadly it’s mostly all gone now, the land’s been built on and gentrified, the royal family’s old yacht The Britannia is permanently moored there for tourists to look around. The dockers are long gone.

Clear the culverts but let the rivers and streams be. It'll encourage sun and shade areas which the river needs to thrive with life.
