I worked in a old school toilet factory back in the late 80s and 90s. Everything was done by hand. I made 84 toilets a day for 13 years. Extremely hard and hot work.

next time I go for a dump, I shall remember all the hard work these people put in and all those robots who made it possible to have a decent dump ina shiney glazed pan.
i think one of the most important part to give the toilet a good appearance is the smoothing out process. I came to this video after just buying a brand name toilet that has wavy curves on the outside. From this video it looks like when the mud is still wet, gravity causes the surface to be uneven and it is up to the sanding person to make it even or smooth again.
When the pieces are de-molded, they are very "Plastic" and fragile the clay will bend, dent very easily. The potter has to be very delicate in handling or they will be damaged. The piece must be finished properly before the glaze is applied in order to look good.
I was trying to figure out how they made such intricate hollow-wall thing designs in clay. I would never had thought of depositing clay against the walls of a porous mold by pressure pumping a diluted clay mix. that's really ingenious.
I've never seen a washdown toilet before. It looked so strange I had to consult Wikipedia. Turns out I've been using a siphonic toilet daily for 58 years. Who knew?
The whole reason I looked this up was to see how all the little waterways under the rim were molded, but it said nothing & showed nothing about it. It doesn't make sense to me how those tiny waterways are made if it's just one big mold.
I don’t know if Sir Harrington would approve of some of these designs. Doesn’t look like there’s anywhere to put your comic book or chocolate milk. #reversecowgirl #SP In all seriousness though, learning about how these are made was really interesting, especially seeing a classic craft like clay working combined with giant robot arms
You skipped the part about the forming of the base of the toilet (shown already constructed at MARK 1:50). Obviously this is done in a similar manner but since there is a more complex drainage system involved it is the more interesting part of the process. Wish you had covered this as well as the rest.

Is the mold casting toliet made from gypsum? I mean , almost all ceramic artists use that for making molds. if it's that , I wonder how could they spray quite a lot of water upon the mold, which can make the mold wet and unusable for a moment ,absorbing water.
I was wondering how these are made knowing some about molding. i was wonder how the toilet was molded around the water feed into the bowl being that it is a tight confined space. now i know, thanks.
Look how the western industrial masterminds make things complicated. They always use terms like 'computerized', 'robotic', 'chemical additives, ... for such simple manufacturing processes. I saw dozen of similar productions from india and China with same quality but ony by labor, clay mold and few other grinding kooking and spraying equipment.
Your toilet design is quite modern as well as manufacturing techniques. And your workers perform well. However, for the price I'm content with an older model.

Making toilets this is way better as the bowl is 1 piece. The "how it is made" showed processed of 2 pieces glued together for the bowl. Imagine it splits right down the middle while sitting on it? 💩
@@diyjohn9584 you are correct, I just watched the How It’s Made video to see what you meant. On that video they made most of the lower section as one piece and the rim was a separate piece and they “glued” the two pieces together with the liquid slurry, then they scraped off the squeeze-out to make it smooth. This South African plant’s method is superior.
If my Kohler toilets in the US ( made where?) are any indication glazing the toilets is not such a simple procedure and I don't see how a single automated machine can do the entire process as there are several deep, recessed areas that would have to require special guns and machines or humans to adequately cover, In my case toilets were not properly glazed in the very bottom nor the area under the inside lip resulting in the finish wearing away over time with the result being the color of poo and looking like an uncleaned toilet. Apparently some finishes are much more resistant to water chemical stains than others. Lppks like here they use people. ruclips.net/video/kDQp3hFmCa8/видео.html

Amazing science and engineering behind those machines!!
Most amazing RUclips video ever have watched this a dozen times….great work….thanks from a professional engineer
Great production really interesting

I think factory machines are made customize by inventors and mechanical engineers or engineers in general.

@sumesh s pinarayi They sure did. Amazing.
What kind of a question is that, I bet you're one of those who think nothing good can come out of "Africa" don't you ?
I swear if I see a kid saying "Brr skibidi dop dop dop yes yes" he should go outside

Wat about Ceramic membrane for reverse osmosis, catalytic converter, or for green teknologies
Is there any method for me to remove the toilet bowl glaze?

As the "toilet bowl" is a re-entrant shape, how do they remove the mould?
Use white vinegar in the tank occasionally to stop mould regrowth in the cavity of the rim, after having used bleach initially.
I need the song list of this vid
2:20 generally this is pressure casting. Faster and more control than filling a mold. 3:27 is pressure casting
I googled this after taking a drunken piss at 2am.

Since toilets are made out of porcelain, it's really easy to imagine someone making a toilet on a pottery wheel lol

Hi just wanted to know what is the machines called for heating the WC.
A kiln.
Imagine telling people you work at a toilet factory.
OK but how come only 1 firing? For pottery there is a firing, then glaze, then a second firing.
I think drying at 65 degrees Centigrade as part of the preparation was enough.
At the end, did he say, "barred from" or "apart from"... use in South Africa?

All my poop hits the toilet rim like buckshot. The water in the toilet bowl stays clean.

They need to upgrade their masks during the scouring process.
We shouldn't just continue shi**ing on the people's hard work.

Same process! Those were casting moulds which are also pieces here. Otherwise the final casting is one piece.
@@ShastaLevi I don't think so. Do you SEE the toilet bowl made in 2 pieces and GLUED together here? It is cast as 1 single piece here.
