5917 The Picnic Train to Kiama via Summit Tank

Richard from Cruise Express asked if I could shoot some video footage for him of the Picnic Train which he would use as part of future Rail ads. I was very fortunate to also have a footplate ride, it certainly is an impressive, yet a beast of a freight locomotive which keeps the crew very busy. We were originally going from Sydney to Mossvale with the passengers getting off at Robertson but Covid had just struck the Southern Highlands. We still went to Summit Tank which is one of Australia's most scenic lines crawling up the escarpment but then reversed using the Streamliner 4204 which was on the rear and diverted to Kiama which is a great run along the ocean. From some of the clips I shot I put together this video to share.

Was the driver someone they picked up on his way to the beach?

Well we did head to the beach .. he was the only one prepared .. I think he also had his surf board in the guards van .. Lol .. cheers
