Florencio's rise proves that most players at high levels arent skilled strategists, but have just memorized the meta.
Otherwise your GM Terran player here wouldnt be mismicroing his reapers. He would be able to adapt under the pressure of a novel situation.
Perhaps gaming and Esports have a negative effect on individuality in the game. Theres an idea of *the right way to play*... The Meta. The Meta is written and alterable only by High Priests (which would be the pros and the popular streamers). The culture of SC2 then forms around this Metagame, and reinforce its strength just by believing its inerrancy and participating in it.
In this metaphor, its possible to become a really educated Catholic, rise through the ranks of the Church, and yet not know anything of God.
Florencio is not an educated Catholic. He seeks to know the Face of God.

That's why players there's madmen like HAS who win tournaments with disco balls, create a whole new PvZ meta strategy that Blizz sees and immediately nerfs because WTF IS THAT THING?! and then we are sadbois bc we will not see greatness on that scale for a long time...I love HAS, he needs to win more tournaments.

or, to put it in terms not laced with analogy (which is actually not what i normally do).
so long as *most* players follow the META its entirely possible to climb without realizing exactly *Why* the meta is what it is. you see the same stuff in basically any competitive game. noobs playing 'broken' champs in low elo in MOBA's but doing terribly. because they don't actually understand what makes them broken. meanwhile everyone else is yelling at the noob because 'how dare you do poorly on a broken champ' as though having a broken champ is all it takes to do well on them.

Those hallucination were a stroke of genius, I am convinced the colossi were what made the opponent surrender.

I loved the hallucinated colossi at the end. "Just in case my 4 immortals aren't enough to convince you of your doom, here's a couple of added colossi to drive the point home." He was pushing for a tap out, and he got it exactly on time. Pig should play a combination vacuum (dental vacuum?) and toilet flushing sound to commemorate the sucking and flushing of the hapless victim's ladder points.
I remember a year or so ago, I think it was, watching GSL vods or some such, when one of the Korean champions beat another with an army that contained a bunch of hallucinated intimidation units. Like fully a 1/4th to 1/3rd of the big army he fought with was hallucinated. Then after the guy tapped out, he went over and showed his victim the hallucinations in the replay. "You were doing better than you think. I just managed to fake you out this time, that's all." The poor guy was face palming.
That moment when you realize, mockery aside, Florencio just reached GM on korean server
To be frank one must actually be pretty good to make that kind play works against decent opponents
no doubt. Florencio is one of the most talented and innovative protoss players out there. But it's fun watching Pig give him a hard time for certain decisions/ macro fails, and then being like "oh yeah, this dude is insanely good, he just is so good he makes it look easy."
While it's obvious he isn't at top GM/ pro level, since cheese are really micro intensive it's really hard to have a flawless execution while keeping your macro where it should be by taking bases and building stuff at the same time.
I mean, I don't know how much higher it gets than being GM on the Korean server =D I'm counting that as top for me.

While I think the immortals probably would have won the game on their own, the hallucinated colossi was a masterstroke. His opponent obviously doesn't know how what each unit takes to build (he likely blindly does the same strategy every game), so he wouldn't be suspicious that 2 colossi just randomly showed up. They weren't even hitting units yet, so their lack of damage wouldn't give them away. I'm sure he believed they were real.
The army showing up in his base so quickly would have been a shock by itself. I'm not sure if he scouted Florencio's expansion and even if he did he wouldn't have had time to reason out that it had been brought in via recall. He might even have thought it was a second army built from proxy structures while he was harassing Florencio's main.
That Terran almost had it but when he lost all his reapers it was GG
I just realized Florencio's douchebag moves are just creative macro, because 10 probes mining beat 100 SCV's when 99 are busy attacking buildings or chasing probes around. Same thing with abandoning a Nexus after recalling his probes when it occupies your opponent's entire army for way too long.
The florencio files are extremely under rated, I'm laughing until I'm crying in half these videos.. This is even better than huskys bronze league heroes.
when flo use the "opperation ghost army" at the end, just like what allies did back in world war 2
