Just want to confirm that this also worked on my VW Golf 4, a 16 year old champ that's still going strong! Thank you so much for publishing this video!
Thank you so much for making this video. A couple days ago my husband went to get in our truck and it was locked which he hadn't locked. He unlocked it with the key and the alarm went off. Could not get it to shut off after he tried several things so truck has set. We came across your video he tried it and it worked wonderfully. This worked for our 1997 Dodge Dakota.
So far so good. I had this problem with my '06 Acura and took WD 40 to the trunk latch and the front hood latch. We've been two days now without the alarm going off unexpectedly; hoping that this is a longterm solution, but am prepared to replace a switch (or switches) if needed! Thanks for the great video, it was great to have something to try after being up all night trying to figure it out!
Thanks for the information.... It seems that your advice still works in 2023. I also sprayed and massaged the rear window mechanism while I was at it. Not sure how much money you saved me... But the neighbors are glad I watched your video.
The wife's 2015 Journey just started the "Alarm" thing. The rear hatch light would come on even though it was closed. Watched this video (the first video that came up) popped the little inspection cover at the hatch lock area and sprayed it with wd40. Problem solved. Thanks for the tip and thank you "You-tube"
Legit video, I tried it for my grandpa at 8am in the morning for his Camry 2006. His car was going off nonstop I think it's bc the high wind. At first I was skepticle but it worked for his car. Thank you!
hello. My 2007 camry is doing the same. It mostly happens after a long drive when the engine is hot. did yours had problem with the hood too? Mine thinks the hood is open even when its closed. Please let me know if it was the same problem and if rust remover helped that.
Thank you, Alarm does go off with a car door open indicator light on dash board Tried several you tube suggestions. Fixed wires on door for switch, still had the indicator light on.My mechanic took a look at back door latch, it was not closing, he thought it needed a new spring and new latch, but he like you said loaded almost a whole can of WD- 40. I have a 2000 Toyota 4 runner.,opened and closed several times alit of rust was coming out with WD ,one additional thing I did also with the WD was put on the handle underneath that was also rusty.Yes! and this did fix the indicator light showing opened door; Once that was fixed my doors locked properly with the remote wireless key and now the alarm indicator light comes on when door is locked. Thumbs up!
My alarm went of every two hours through the night oh my word I cannot wait to try this! Nothing else worked and I don't have the wrench to disconnect the neg terminal of my battery. Thank you so much for this video! Also your face at the beginning when the alarm goes off😂😂😂😂 me every time mine goes off, same face.... lol. I needed a laugh after last night. You ROCK man! Now I just have to make it through my day of momming with very little sleep under my belt.... 😊
Thanks for posting this video. I’m ecstatic that I found it. I’d have spent no telling how much time trying to figure this out or paying somebody to fix something that I didn’t need to pay for. The alarm was going off randomly if the vehicle was locked. Fortunately, I noticed a Hood is Open INFO notice the yesterday so running across your video was perfect. WD-40 seems to have fixed it but if it comes back I’m pretty sure the hood sensor will be the problem.
So far so good. Followed your instructions about 2 weeks ago on my 2011 Mini Cooper and alarm has not gone off since. These cars are notorious for car alarm issues never mind expensive to service. Unbelievable!! Thank you.
Ah RUclips! Came here for an answer and so far seems fixed!!! I used WD40 since thats the inly thing i have. Used it on my trunk and doors. Havent gone off in mins. It would go off within like 30 secs. Been 5 mins no problem!!! Thanks so much for this video!! Didnt think it was going to be this easy!!!
My 2003 VW Beetle car alarm was going off after a hard rain. I suspected and sprayed the back trunk latch with liquid wrench. At first it reduced the the time the alarm would go off by 10 minutes so I left the trunk slightly closed overnight and sprayed the latch again the next day. With the trunk hatch fully closed the alarm hasn't gone off. In other words this worked for now. Thanks for your video!
Its 5:00 AM in the morning & guess what I just finished doing? My Honda HRV alarm woke me up. I noticed yesterday as I was driving home from work the "door ajar" light came on the dash. Well I'm so glad I found this video because it was the rear hatch! Sprayed it with WD40! Problem solved! Thanks!
Funny you just put this up today, just had a customer come in the shop this morning telling me about his intermittent alarm problem he has been having on his Mountaineer and then he mention his other intermittent problem he has been having..... give you a second to guess what that was... yep his flickering dome light and door ajar light as he was driving. He told me it has to be a short for sure lol. I told him not to worry, one little door switch and we will kill two birds with one stone :) . Ended up being the pass rear door on his but it was a little past the lube stage. Good tip for folks, great job!
@@carquestions hey buddy I know I'm 5 years late lol but ironically I have that exact same dodge nitro... My car alarms aren't going off BUT my horn keeps going off randomly... Do you know anything about that ??
Thanks for the video. Mine just started out of the blue. I was going to see if I could bypass the alarm system entirely via the fuse box, but this seems to be the better way. Even so, I wish I could also bypass it entirely as the neighbors get rightfully ticked off when it goes off unexpectedly.
@@fredstokes1785 05 p71 vic is operating in dark mode with a factory added on alarm system that will not allow me to start the car. Its happened once & just a simple unlock deactivates. 2nd time & the car has been stuck for 3days & ive had no luck removing alarm box as it is a maze of wires & patrol add ons that have been snipped & left without care. Ran thru trouble shooting checklist & nothing seems to work. I believe the alarm has been reset, but if i lock by key fob the red security light stays on & no longer flashes @ all, if i unlock it disables the light. Car has good power so what is the issue? Wd40 trick is a no go on this ford, something else is malfunctioning. Ive spoken to the cop who owned it before me, who put over 100,xxx miles and never had that issue as it was a service car until recently.
Thanks man you saved us. We are located near Stuttgart Germany and imported a Dodge Grande Caravan 2014 from florida 😉. The Alarm went Off for no reason , but you saved us. But "Spray the living daylights Out of this Thing " stoped it 👍🏽thank you
Thank you very much for this video..I have a 2006 ford Escape I was having the same problem .Watched your video and it worked Perfect 24 hours later NO ALARMS...……...
My -08 Dodge Avenger does this all of the time when the weather is moist. This totally helps, at least for week at the time. Been using CRC lock oil. Thank you for this video. Plus funniest intro :)
Dude thanks a million, My girl called me freaking out. After a quick search this was the first video I found. She ran inside the gas station, sprayed the thing down and the alarm stopped going off. Thank You!
Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!! It worked like a charm! My hatchback light was coming on, car alarm would go off randomly, and near constant dinging noise from the instrument cluster that was driving me nuts. Good day sir!
My alarm keeps going off randomly on my 2003 Cadillac Escalade as well as another thing you mentioned that nobody has been able to tell me why or what...my dashboard 100% of the time says "rear access open (hatch door, same as yours in the video) sooooo i will he doing it tomorrow to pray that it indeed fixes both! Thank you so much 🙏
Thank-you for sharing this video on how to stop the car alarm from going off. I have a 2012 Jeep and today as I was driving the front panel said, "gate open," I got out to check it and it wasn't open, so as I drove home the gate open and mileage numbers were flashing back and forth. The car alarm went off twice after I parked it, within a few minutes of time. So, I watched this video that I found through Google, and I tried it, the WD-40 you suggested and opened and closed the back 10 times, and it worked, the alarm didn't go off anymore. Thanks for the suggestion. Julie
I thought this wouldn’t work but was desperate because my 2010 Mazdaspeed3 would not stop waking me up at 1 or 2 am. How could WD-40 hurt anything? I thought I would give it a try. I sprayed every door including the hatch. Two months later and no more nightly awakenings. Thank you for this simple yet effective solution!!
I have a toyota 3rd gen 4runner with a intermittent alarm. I thought the alarm reason was that i had disconnected the battery and the alarm system would not reset. No. Well, i had just removed the horns and alarm switch to get some peace. Then this fix showed up and it was easy so I tried it. I drenched WD40 on all locks including hood and then opening and closing for many times. So I reconnected the alarm and it WORKED. Thank you
I have a 2002 Chevy Trailblazer that started doing this the other night(Alarm sounding). Thought it was from the cold snap we got here (I live in Greenville, South Carolina). Any way, when you started talking about the display being on for 'Door Ajar' or 'Tailgate Open', it all hit! I will spray the dickens out of all of the first thing in the morning. Thank you for this video, was very helpful!
Thanks for posting this video. I took your advice and it worked. Thanks for saving my sanity and time to figure out the problem. It worked great on my 2021 Chevy Custom Trail Boss.
Just had my Spark's hood latched replaced (itwas a recall) and the alarm problem started again. We thought we'd circumvented the alarm by locking with the key instead of the fob, but its gone 9ff twice today. But I'll try you idea on the hatch, since that hasn't been unlocking for a while. The dealer already replaced the drivers door sensor (for $250!) and still had alarm trouble. Can't afford to do 4 , more sensors!
Great Video. Was getting the same issue with 2011 Hyundai Elantra Touring. Read all the forums, took it to the delaer too. The dealer took the money to investigate and the answer we do not know what is wrong with it???!!! Tried your approach and it has not honked since last 2 days now...used to be every few hrs. Thanks!!!
I have a question. My car alarm siren keeps going off no matter what I do. I cut the wire to the siren so I can drive around. I've went into where the brain is and set the setting swith off and still goes off. Its compustar car alarm/starter/locks.
Remove the system and repair the wiring since this system your car has doesn't seem compatible with it - this is often the case - get an original equipment alarm if possible made by the same company the made the car
the spray of w40 did not work for my car but ended up kept the hood up all night to keep the alarm from going off so that it does not wake up the whole neighborhood...i was up until 2am last night trying different things. i was going to remove the battery as last resort but kept the hood up did it.
@@carquestions thank you....I ended up having the toyota dealer replaced the front hood switch and that fixed the issue but that cost over $200 :( to do so.
Thank you for your well explained information, I was wondering the same issue came to my car yesterday. Can I spray this under the lock mechanism in front bonnet?
Thanks for the video. I tried this about a week ago (after watching this the first time)and haven’t heard the alarm since! But then the cops showed up at 11:30pm last night. I haven’t heard it but the neighbors have. They called the cops two nights in a row. (Yep. I’ve got those neighbors.) Apparently my house is really sound proof. So, today I’m taking it in to the dealer. Thanks for trying though!
Thanks for this. I am having this issue with my avalon. It's a 95 so things are getting funky electronically. Same thing. Alarm going off. Door Ajar warnings. Dome light coming on. Even my tail light failure light comes and goes on the dash and my seatbelt alarm chimes randomly. I was thinking about doing this exact thing before I start tearing stuff apart to inspect the insides. Now I know this is a good thing to try first to try to save the hassle. I did notice I have a fair bit of corrosion on my positive batter cable behind the terminal too so I'll try to clean that off and see if things go back to normal. If not, I will have to start digging deep in to see if I got bad grounds, switches or even if the computer itself might be going. This car is getting very difficult to find parts for though.
Thank you for the video, it worked for my mazda cx 7 2007 , but in my case i would use uur tip once in each quarter, just to make sure everything is updated
When our old 1986 Jeep Cherokee broke down, we were donated a beautiful 1997 Chevy Suburban with the Anaheim Industries upgrade. The Chevy dealership says that GM did not put alarms in Suburbans this year, but mine has one and I can not find any information on the alarm system. I recently left the dome light on and ran the batter dead, so I used a new "battery starter" to crank the vehicle and now the alarm will not turn off, disabling the ignition. The alarm was set when the battery went dead so I could not turn it off until after the battery was charged enough to power the alarm, but I was never able to disarm the alarm. I pulled the fuse on the alarm and got the vehicle to start by turning the key and pressing a red button under the dash which is somehow connected to the alarm, but now I have no working power door locks or alarm system. If I replace the fuse, the alarm goes off within a minute or less and keeps going off and resetting and going off again till I pull the fuse. Any information you may have related to fixing this alarm system would be appreciated. Please Email a response to james@agapegraphics.com Thank you. God bless. James
I did look for a name or some identifying number but the only thing I could be sure was part of the alarm system was a sensor that was quick-tied to the steering column, a red button under the dash for some sort of bypass switch and the alarm horn. I traced the wires back to a bunch of wires that looks like pile of mixed spaghetti. I am just not sure which wires to disconnect. Some are obvious, but others may need reconnecting to some other place after taking out parts. Many wires are the same color so I would not know which to reconnect to which. This is our only vehicle and we must have it to go to the store and taking my wife to doctors so II can't afford to short out something related to starting the vehicle. My next idea is I will take it to an car alarm shop and hope they will have seen this before alarm before and be able to help. I am just guessing, but since the alarm still sounds, I think that the brain of the alarm system has been scrambled and I hope that some special sequence of button pushing or key turning will reset it The alarm shop also might be able to identifying the alarm system and I can google for more information. Thank you for your response.
This worked like a charm!!!! Thank you so much for taking the time to make this video. Worked like a charm. My neighbors thank you too!!! 🙏 Thank you 🙏
carquestions , Spent a whole summer in Canada when I was a teenager. Best summer ever! Wish I was there now! Going to be 45-46*C here in AZ today. Thank u again for this video! Good to see people do things just to help others.
Big big Thanks I tried this and so far 👍 it’s been happening since yesterday soo embarrassing. And tonight it decided to do the chorus line so I tried it with grape seed oil , and hey presto 😃
Thank you for the tip. The alarm on my 2006 Ford Escape had been ringing intermittently. I just didn't lock my driver side door so the alarm wouldn't ring. Then my door ajar indicator light came on out of the blue and stayed illuminated, but all of the doors were closed. I figured it had something to do with the door switch, but I didn't want to take the car to the dealership to get it fixed. So, I tried your tip and it worked. The door ajar light went off. I haven't tried to simulate the alarm yet. But, thank you for the tip. I hope it works a little while longer before I have to get it properly repaired.
I have a 2005 Ford escape the alarm goes off whenever it wants to. It also sometimes goes off when I open my driver door . Which seems like I'm breaking into my own vehicle. Can you tell me where is the fuse for for this located. I want to remove my fuse and just have it done. No more alarm. I would appreciate your help.
I habe the Viper 350 PLUS 3105V 1-Way Car Alarm Keyless Entry and when I arm my alarm and unlock the front door with the key the alarm doesn't go sound off. If I unlock the passenger and open it it goes off. What is wrong? 🤔 Thank you in advance.
My alarm on my 2007 Nissan Armada randomly goes off. I tried this and it didn’t work 😫 but I’m glad it worked for some of you. I took it to the dealership and the remote was defective. Once the remote was disabled the problem went away
THX!! WILL do! BUT does this problem also cause the cabin lights to go out? I've had this issue with my car and took it to Nissan and they replaced it with a $2. fuse or something. The lights in the cabin lasted two days. And the alarm still went off at night :/
My 2000 Chevrolet Silverado truck alarm has gone of 3 times in the last 4 months while sitting parked in the rain. Does this sound like something that would be fixed by what you demonstrated? When going off the key fob wouldn't unlock it, I had to use the key. Once opened I also noticed when pushing the door look button in the truck the locks wouldn't work. Once I started the truck everything works fine. One other thing is the key fob works fine except in the 3 times the alarm was going off. Any comments would be helpful.
You need an in-depth look - I'd check the door hinge wire connections for problems first - broken wires etc - take the door panels off and look for corrosion bad connections etc - let me know what you find - Cheers from Canada !
I have this problem on my camry 2009, but it doesn't show me any information if any door is open. Where can I start? I went to a mechanic and he asked $300 for diagnosis, I have read the following issues on internet: 1. Car battery connectors loose 2. Key fob battery change 3. Driver side door latch issue 4. Hood latch issue as you showed I am clueless and don't want to spend that much amount. Please help. I will try this WD-40 tomorrow
@@carquestions thanks, I know where to put wd40 on trunk and boot, for, doors, do I need to remove any part to get access to the actual area ? sorry, I haven't done such things before, learning now
@@carquestions Update: My issue was that my trunk release handle went loose as I loaded my trunk too much few days back and it might have hit some luggage, I fixed it back to its position and alarm is fine now :P
Thank you for sharing this. I came across your video now while researching what could be causing my car alarm to go off at the most embarrassing moment of the day. I have a Honda Insight 2010. I plan to try the spray thing on my lock. Please, what's the name of the spray? And where do I get it to buy? Do I just spray it on the trunk lock?
Issue: Beeping horn(panic sound) goes on while starting the car and key fob battery is down to stop panic sound. Panic sound goes on when opening the locked car by the passenger sitting inside the car and key fob batter is not working to mute the panic sound Solution: For both scenario the best approach is to come out out of the car while panic sound is on and unlock the car door by inserting key into the car door (like old fashion way mechanically unlocking the door). Unlocking the car from inside using lock/unlock button allocated on car door may not stop panic sound. Note, this works also when unlock button is not working on key fob and panic sound is on.
Do you have to do this on each door to figure out which door it is? I have a 2011 Toyota Sienna with the side powered doors so how would I do this? Just the back? Because my car alarms keeps going off
Hello replacing a cable and can't get it to fit It's from a 05, seems like mb it's a touch longer even tho their se length the top side that hook up under steering wheel seems a little longer from the shifter lever to the part that goes thru the mount under wheel. Like mb a inch more of plastic housing on cable. Will send a pic 2morrow if you get this comment. Thanks for any info
Well! I did what you said 10 to 20 times didn't work for me, but I decided to do it again another 20 times, to my surprise my neighbor was watching me like Im a lunatic 😁.
Currently having this issue on my 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee. I was always confused as to why I’d get multiple alerts mid drive saying my rear doors were ajar when they clearly weren’t. Not to mention the random alarms throughout the day. Thought it was the 100+ degree heat killing my car’s computer, but I’ll gladly try out this first.
What spray would you really recommend? Tonight is the first time for it happening and I literally just got this car, used, but still. Nothing in the papers said anything about the alarm being this way. So I would just like to know and see if it works
h! i have an oldsmobile silhouette from 2000 and when people drive by it goes off on its own. it honks like 5 times and then stops by itself, so i dont have to keep my keys on me at all times or anything, but im just worried about it because it might be a problem for my neighbors and it might go off in the parking lot for no reason or something. is there anything i can try? (i havent tried this yet by the way, i just dont know if my problem is something else because i dont have a door ajar thing on my dash. i also donnt have any liquid wrench)

Hello, this is a very similar situation to my Toyota Highlander. But it's a little bit different. I had a engine start alarm put in and after that I started having issues with the factory alarm going off. The people at the alarm store re-did the alarm and it still goes off whenever. Recently I had a new battery put in I now can't lock it at all because it will go off all the time. I'm going to try doing your suggestion but I'm at a loss as what else I can do.
Heather - remove the car alarm from the vehicle and have it put back to original condition - they are low quality devices and not approved by Toyota - this is the most likely cause
carquestions I was thinking the same thing. The thing is we spent like $800 winning in. But I am just too frustrated right now. I'm willing to do anything now. I just would have to order a new alarm from Toyota because I don't think I have the old alarm Fob thank you for your insight.

Gotta love the Tube - way to go Pete!!
Legit video, I tried it for my grandpa at 8am in the morning for his Camry 2006. His car was going off nonstop I think it's bc the high wind. At first I was skepticle but it worked for his car. Thank you!
Anytime
hello. My 2007 camry is doing the same. It mostly happens after a long drive when the engine is hot. did yours had problem with the hood too? Mine thinks the hood is open even when its closed. Please let me know if it was the same problem and if rust remover helped that.
Thank you,
Alarm does go off with a car door open indicator light on dash board
Tried several you tube suggestions. Thumbs up!
Great result - cheers!
I have just got a 2020 Toyota Corolla and I’m going to try this ....I used to get on well with my neighbours!
I thought no way on this fix for my neighbors BMW. Sure enough, it fixed the alarm . Thanks for posting

Good going!
Thank you so much for this video!! We live in a condo and I am sure we would have had multiple complaints. You are a neighborhood hero!

So far so good. Followed your instructions about 2 weeks ago on my 2011 Mini Cooper and alarm has not gone off since. These cars are notorious for car alarm issues never mind expensive to service. Unbelievable!! Thank you.
Glad it worked Henry - Cheers from Canada!
Took a lot of WD40 and white lithium grease, but I finally got this concept to work on my 2014 Durango with the same issue. Thank you!!
Great news Dee - cheers!
Excellent result - keep up the good work
my neighbors called the police because of the noise, I saw your video and it helped me a lot, thanks

Thanks!
Anytime Jay - glad it worked
Funny you just put this up today, just had a customer come in the shop this morning telling me about his intermittent alarm problem he has been having on his Mountaineer and then he mention his other intermittent problem he has been having..... give you a second to guess what that was... yep his flickering dome light and door ajar light as he was driving. He told me it has to be a short for sure lol. I told him not to worry, one little door switch and we will kill two birds with one stone :) . Ended up being the pass rear door on his but it was a little past the lube stage. Good tip for folks, great job!

05 p71 vic is operating in dark mode with a factory added on alarm system that will not allow me to start the car.

Thank you

Find your bad switch in the trunk or doors

Might have a bad switch in a door or good - check that
Thank you for the video, it worked for my mazda cx 7 2007 , but in my case i would use uur tip once in each quarter, just to make sure everything is updated

God bless. James
If it isn't a factory alarm system I would remove it - look for name on it and get a wiring diagram and put the truck back to factory specs

Big big Thanks I tried this and so far 👍 it’s been happening since yesterday soo embarrassing. And tonight it decided to do the chorus line so I tried it with grape seed oil , and hey presto 😃
Helpful video. I may need to try this. But a switch is an electrical part, so are you actually applying the lubricant on the latching mechanism?
Yes - the switch is always dependent on something mechanical to actuate it
Thank you for the tip. The alarm on my 2006 Ford Escape had been ringing intermittently. I just didn't lock my driver side door so the alarm wouldn't ring. Then my door ajar indicator light came on out of the blue and stayed illuminated, but all of the doors were closed. I haven't tried to simulate the alarm yet. But, thank you for the tip. I hope it works a little while longer before I have to get it properly repaired.

It differs from model to model - best way - look it up in your owner's manual or read the index on the fuse panel door to be sure

THX!!

4. Hood latch issue as you showed

WD40 or any other penetrating spray should do
Issue: Beeping horn(panic sound) goes on while starting the car and key fob battery is down to stop panic sound.
Panic sound goes on when opening the locked car by the passenger sitting inside the car and key fob batter is not working to mute the panic sound
Solution:
For both scenario the best approach is to come out out of the car while panic sound is on and unlock the car door by inserting key into the car door (like old fashion way mechanically unlocking the door). Unlocking the car from inside using lock/unlock button allocated on car door may not stop panic sound.
Note, this works also when unlock button is not working on key fob and panic sound is on.

Nitro and Jeep made at the same plant and share most problems
What spray would you really recommend? Tonight is the first time for it happening and I literally just got this car, used, but still. Nothing in the papers said anything about the alarm being this way. So I would just like to know and see if it works

is there anything i can try? (i havent tried this yet by the way, i just dont know if my problem is something else because i dont have a door ajar thing on my dash. i also donnt have any liquid wrench)

@carquestions update - after that initial day, even my last comment, I have not had an incident since! I think the greasing of the lock mechanism was effective! Thanks!
Sorry I should check my words $800 putting it in.
