  • Jessie Lehmann is an amazing percussionist in our valley based out of Glenwood Springs. Not only is she one of the best percussionists I’ve had the honor of working with, she is also an instructor and drum builder. Jessie is a student, teacher, performer of West African drumming and culture. Jessie is the owner and founder of Lionheart Drumming connecting communities one beat at a time through school programs, community classes, team building events, staff development, special needs drumming and exciting performance. Lionheart Drumming honors our teachers who came before us and passed along the rhythms and cultures, while inspiring others to live with joy through drumming. Jessie is also the percussionist in local favorite band The Know Bodies. This energetic band plays throughout the valley, most recently opening for The Wailers at The Belly Up. In this week’s episode we will discover Jessie’s passion for West African Drumming, her roots as a percussionist, what drives her to pass on her knowledge, and what Jessie has planned for the future. We’ll also get a chance to cut loose on some killer drum jams as well.

Hi Jessie, did you create the intro to Kassa as played with djembe and ballet duns (at 42 min) or did you learn it from someone?

Hi! I learned that small break from Koumbagna Conde in 2001 in Guinea, West Africa.
