Hi from AZ, you are all amazing. I lived and hiked in Mammoth from 86-97 I love the Sierra's but don't miss the snow. The Devils post pile is the middle of a 400' deep flow of basalt. As the molten rock cooled it cracked to relieve the stress from shrinking. the exposed columns at the post pile were exposed by glaciers and are from the middle of the flow. The basalt cooled very slowly which is why they are so straight. You continue to inspire me. I am wishing you all the very best.
I should have started long ago - like on day one - making a list of 'things I have learned' from your PCT videos and posts. Wow - in addition to a wealth of information, also how to stay sane!! You gals ROCK!!
The professor was right - you cannot go wrong looking at rocks. Also, I love that story about the guy with the shirt who carried the buried bucket back out of the Sierras. Amazing. You three are strong hikers. Beautiful country.
Noooo it’s like watching a PBS special and I don’t want the video to end. I think I have an addiction problem to your videos 😂 Beautiful coverage of Yosemite and until your next video…Hike on!
I hiked up Crescent Mt 2 weeks ago with Ms. Rider and Scott. It's 5 miles straight up then down. It kicked my tail.... it put into perspective how amazing you all are. Kudos big time! I love your videos.
Columnar basalts are the coolest!! As a geology student I’ve definitely learned how they form... but can’t remember lol. Loving these views and the water!!
Look ma, no search! . . . that basalt has a nice crystalline look to it, and I once thought it might be fun to grow synthetic crystals . . . and found out they're very particular about the neighborhood they grow in . . . so maybe in a location below a good sedimentary lid (since a granite lid would still be evident)?
I have been following your journey from the start. I am enjoying your videos to the upmost. You three certainly are strong hikers. Once you got into the Sierras I have been able to enjoy my long past memories of my hikes. Looking forward to your progress north. Be careful and enjoy!
Really enjoying your videos. The scenery is beautiful. When crossing streams, be sure to unhook sternum straps and hip belts, in case you lose your footing. Your backpack won’t drag you under. Be safe out there.
Great video. The Sierra is my happy place and you made it come alive. You guys are doing an awesome job! I’m section hiking the PCT and can’t wait to get back to the Sierra. Hike on!
Wow what beautiful scenery. It’s like hiking from one Bob Ross painting to another. I love the JMT. I hiked it once with my favorite person in the world.
Great video! I took my first real backpacking trip to Garnet and Thousand Island last summer with my wife. We are going back with our daughters at the end of summer. This video makes we want to pack up and drive there right now!
I like your schedule/way you hike/camp. While its group style you have huge chunks of solitude/solo hiking mid day if you choose. I know at times its needed.
That part of the sierras is beautiful. You are past the crazy passes snd it a low water year. Once you are in Yosemite it looks easy but warning that while it’s gorgeous, it’s exhausting cuz you are walking in slabs of rock all day and lots of mosquitos cuz of the time of year. 1000 Island lake is gorgeous. But that section is just granite granite granite. But if you have to camp overnight, tuolumne meadows is beautiful. 23 miles on that rock without a break is hard on your feet. Be careful. I would love to backpack that part of Yosemite one day.
You are in the transition zone between the sierras snd the cascades that are nothing but volcanoes. I love Lassen national park. You will hike through the least scenic part but you will see even more volcanic activity than the sierras. Tho devils post pile is def the remnants of volcanic activity. Which is why the minerals in the rock cause it to form in those odd hexagonal shapes. Gotta love it.
So, tell me again, what does HRC represent? Thanks There are folks who’d like to meet up in WA for trail magic….. are there places with a long dry stretch?
I think WA is a great place to do Trail magic! Pick a spot where the PCT crosses a road and go for it! Places not near any resort or food are especially appreciated by hikers. Let us know your spot when you pick it! 😍
Hi! I have been watching your journey from the beginning. What an incredible experience for you and your daughter. I sent you a message on Instagram. I live near echo summit off highway 50. If you can give me an eta for your day arrival to echo lake/Summit, I’ll show up with your favorite foods. Just let me me know. I have sectioned hiked a ton of the pct but never all the way through. Good for you girls! You are doing great!! Keep going! Jennifer
Chief does our Insta, I’ll have to look at it. We are in S Lake Tahoe now! Going back to the rd tomorrow and then past echo lake resort in the first few miles....
So did y’all get a JMT permit for the jewel lakes section? Pretty sure PCT hikers aren’t allowed to camp along the 17 miles between Red’s and Thousand Island Lake..
I am sure they got an Inyo Forest permit starting at Kennedy Meadows until Tuolumne or Sonora Pass - those are non-quota and easily available online this year. They would never do something illegal! ;)
Love your videos, the wonky filming just made you look realistic, lol. Most of the time ya’ll just look like everything is a piece of cake! Are you making any notes in guthook?
@@hrconthepct2724 nice! Doing sec K in a week or so , you will probably be through there by then. Look forward to reading your comments on the section we will be starting!(northern CA is all I’ve purchased in guthook)
You know, another vlogger named Deep Roots is up in that general vicinity. I wonder if he passed you recently. Kid knocks out 30 miles like it’s nothing.
Alright you promised a shout out for St Nick and the old timers on the trail instead you had a conversation with your bear canister! Oh the horror! Utter devastation! You even said Yo to an anti semite! The nerve :):):)
Hey all thanks for being patient.... 8 days and minimal service!

Thanks again for the nice video.

Highlight of my week, love love love - you have mad video skills - I feel like I am walking with you! Stay safe enjoy
So fun to watch you and amazing views! 1000 MILES.....WOW!
This series is by far my favorite thru-hike I’ve ever watched. You guys are hilarious and add a lot to my day 🙂
Thanks Matt!
Love the break up bit with your bear canister!
so far you are sharing the best views of the entire trail. Loving your adventure
Great fun. ✌️👊
Love the videos. Hiking with y’all. Peace. Blessing.
So beautiful, so awesome. Wow, and the miles, 1000 miles - AMAZING 👏. Breaking up with the canister was funny. Keep trekking. 😀

Great advice! We usually do. It’s an great safety tip!
Love hiking along with you, and your amazing attitude! Keep up the miles and way to go!
Technically, even though the rock has changed to volcanic, it's still the Sierra Nevada until just south of Lassen.
You guys are really bustin out the miles! Congrats on 1000+. Love the Sierra but now there's more to come. Hike On!

Personally, I love your videos, they are real, not like you have a team of professional camera operators following you around. Congrats on 1000 miles.

I love the JMT. I hiked it once with my favorite person in the world.
Been watching you from the UK, this trail is my dream and on my bucket list! You're all so inspiring, thanks!
Your hike is definitely an E Ticket ride! I'm loving it. Can't wait to see Fiddle Jam 2021!
One Disney fan to another that reference is not lost on us. E tickets!!

I have Watch lots of blogs on the PCT yours is the best buy fare I see more country that I have any other video thank you for taking me with you
🥰 thanks Tim!!
Thank you for a great video.

The group time is nice and the solitude is too!
Sorry I didn’t watch this episode until I met you. But it makes it all so much more fun to watch.
It was so nice to meet you!!

I thought Tuolumne to Sonora was some of the toughest terrain on trail....
Great post. Thanks for sharing with such enthusiasm. Doesn’t everybody love rocks ?
Right?!?

what does 'HRC' mean?
Yo se mite. I died.
Does the bear canister need to come back when you get farther north? It looks like a pain to carry.
There are 20 miles more in Lassen but if you hike through during a single day (all PCT hikers do) you do not need to carry the bear can again.
SUCH a pain.... and we never have to carry it again!
That was Sonora pass at the end of the video?
It was!
Oh, uh, there won't be a smooth trail, but when you're doing it you'll have Twizzlers, so you got that going for ya.
