That's definitely the best little video on the S2400 I've seen. I always try to make my own drums too, but I'd love for you to make a video showing your process as your drums sounded great! It's something I'm endlessly fascinated by. (You've nailed that lofi drum sound.) I'm definitely gonna get myself a little QWERTY and power up the machine on the back of this!
They do mate, I can't stress that enough. People fall at the first hurdle if they are using crap samples. It's really an art in itself, finding sounds. Cheers for watching and commenting.
Been looking for this kind of video on how to start making House on the S2400 since the very short videos put out by ISLA Instruments haven't really worked for me. I was considering selling it but glad I found your video. Keep them coming, thank you, Subscribed.
Just picked up my S2400 and this video is gold dust!! This is after owning a TR-8S for quite a while and the limitations around the grid system with no micro-timing/per instrument swing setting starting to frustrate me. I've always found top loops to be problematic, so to watch you construct a top loop style hi hat pattern right there and then on the machine was wonderful! Please, please keep the videos coming on how you work with the S2400. ps...I've just subscribed.
I really enjoyed this tutorial! These are some practical workflow & drum-machine tips, that i will start using right away. And some fundamentals - i had no idea about plugging in a qwerty keyboard! I would be really interested to see your workflow of MPC + s2400 together... More videos, pls!
I’ll definitely be doing some videos on that. I just haven’t had the time lately but things are starting to settle a bit now, so hopefully I’ll get some time to get some more videos done for you guys. Thanks for watching.
I don't have an s2400 (maybe one day) or an MPC but your channel is still a goldmine for the old school techniques alone. I haven't skimmed through all of the videos yet so I'm not sure if you've done this but I'd love to see a video where you source chord stabs or make your own and how you incorporate them into a track. Keep up the great work!
Dear brother, I truly appreciate the wealth of knowledge you share with us. The use of EQ remains a significant challenge for me, but your videos have covered numerous questions. I've also taken a closer look at how you handle the bass. Despite your advice not to replicate everything verbatim, I've incorporated some of the parameters you've shared and was pleasantly surprised-first and foremost, a big thank you. What you're giving us is an enormous gift, brother. Thank you very much. Please allow me to pose a question. Could you demonstrate how the sound of the early 2000s was mixed back then? Specifically, I'm interested in understanding the relationship between chopped samples and bass, as well as the techniques employed to achieve those distinctive heavy slappy sounds of that era. As a devoted fan of The Heatmakerz, Just Blaze, and Timbaland, I would greatly appreciate a special tutorial focusing on these tricks. That would be truly amazing! I'm a huge fan of your videos and eagerly anticipate more, big brother. Greetings and much love from Germany!
Hey dude, thank you for watching and for taking the time to comment. I will certainly add that request to my list for video ideas. It's a great topic to discuss, and I will do some research on it.
@@brucejgray Most of my beats are a combination of the two to be honest. For the sake of speed, I had auto turned on in this video. But also with some added swing.
Any idea if it's possible to use a qwerty with the MPC1000? Maybe if i use my midi-controller w/ the MPC, and plug the keyboard into the midi? Will have to give it a try : )
I will be mate definitely. It’s just been a crazy few months. Moved house, etc. I’m rebuilding my set up so should be back on it soon. Thanks for watching.
@@TheCratesMotel ok thank you I’m not sure why there’s not many tutorials on it especially when loads of old house heads used The sp1200 I know chandler did have a custom one but more so I samples bass and chords you done a great one already on drums
@@Cidr0n it will be quantized if you have swing switched on. If you have it switched off when you record but then turn it on and adjust the swing, it will nudge to the nearest quantize point that you set in swing.
Wonderful walkthrough, Conan. Would love to see this process continue through to full song with the same beat etc. bravo!
Yes mate, definitely on the list.
Looking forward to more S2400 tutorials.
Definitely coming up bro. Thanks for watching.
This was fun. Would love more s2400 videos.

No hippy hop? Finally! A House video with the s2400. Nice vid dude x
You're welcome brother
You can also hold the bank button and hit the pads from left to right that correspond to the bank you want.
Exactly dude, the same as holding B on the QWERTY. I just find it quicker on the keyboard, plus my Bank button can be a little sticky sometimes.
amazing device
For real man definitely. Thank you for watching.
That's a dope looking and sounding machine troop!
Yeh man, I’m loving it.
Love your videos man, always learn new things keep it up
Thanks for watching dude
Pure 90s love it and thanks for the tip on stereo widening on the mpc been using it in my One retro, works great.

I’d love to see you do something like - a very limited sample pool , lots of resampling house track . That’d be cool
Great idea. Noted.
great name, Crates Motel...
Thanks dude
looking forward to the drum kit tutorial!

Me too ;)

Loving this ... thanks. Maybe you talk about it later, but does this machine quantise automatically?
Hey, yes it does. You have the option.
@TheCratesMotel Conan, thanks. The beats in this actual video, were they auto quantized, or were you relying on your own timing?
@@brucejgray Most of my beats are a combination of the two to be honest. For the sake of speed, I had auto turned on in this video. But also with some added swing.

The beat is not quantized after you record a layer, is it? If it isn't, the initial swing setting should have no effect, no?
