Great video & commentary. I completed it over 2 days last weekend. The climb from Yackandandah to Homeward Bound was brutal! Completely underestimated it & was in struggle street. Brilliant track though & deserving of its name!
Great edit and love the commentary. Doesn’t it hurt even more when you’re struggling and you see your mate doing a wheelie up the street like he is just starting a ride.
Awesome effort. Crazy doing it in 30 degrees. My cut off is 20 degrees. I have done that climb around 20 times. It’s a killer. But worth the effort once you get to homeward bound. I do the short 25km loop. Just the Yack side of the Epic.
I did this about 6 months ago. From Beechworth to Yackandandah was easy peasy with a fantastic downhill to Yack. So I thought going back to Beechworth would be fun too. Uphill from Yack to the trail head was a bit of a pain. Followed by a LOT more uphill interspersed with fun downhill bits. After a while I started to dread downhill sections because I learned that I'd have to ride up again. By the time I got to Wallaby Climb I was done in and had run out of water. I just made it to Lake Kerford and had to get the missus to bring me back the last 5km. I'm looking forward next time to at least doing the Beechworth loop that I missed out on. Having poor phone reception didn't help either. Next day I had recovered enough to do Beechworth MTB park and the Woolshed DH run.
Im glad you recovered enough to keep enjoying the area. There's a lot in offer. Im certainly with you on how the the Yack to Beech climbing just keeps going. Its well designed, but relentless 👍🏼. Cheers, thanks Steve
Beechworth to Yack was a lot of fun.I got from Yack to Lake Kerford and ran out of steam. Eventually the missus picked me up. Phone reception was poor.
Did it on an E bike and the climb from Yack to Beechworth was tough enough, so well done, a cooler day is the go. Of course it makes it all worth it for the ride back to Yack and the flowy goodness. 👍
While I’ll admit using an e-bike (on the lowest power setting), the climb is very gradual, but indeed very long. Some people have recommended doing from the Beechworth end and doing the descent first while fresh - I can’t see myself ever leaving the climb until last! Having a lunch break in Beechworth really helps though!
I see the argument for doing the descent fresh, but not leaving the climb till last - no thanks! The long gradual climb was well designed and most would handle it better than me this day. But I survived to lunch and yes stopping for lunch at the brewery is highly recommended 🤟 Cheers Tom, ride well.
I definitely would. Ona proper XC bike, start earlier in the morning and give it the while day. Riding that amount of back country was something special 🤟
@@malmtb yeh I forgot to mention, grinding out a climb on the Sight (Alu or Carbon) would have been very tough...it's no lightweight - good on you for grinding it out. I'd probably take my Trail HT on that one I reckon

We completely agree. Brutally fantastic! Thanks for watching
Great adventure and video Carl but I think a shuttle to the start of homeward bound for me 😊
Yeah I dont blame you Dave, but it was beautiful country so maybe an eBike 🤩
Nice long ride on the Sight. Looks like a must do Carl. The heat must have got ya💪😬
Another great edit mate.
Cheers Matt. Yep the heat was definitely a factor. As was my barely enough fitness 🤣

You know it, but by then I barely felt anything 🤣

Ha, that sounds REALLY sensible

Love the Oils,trails,e-bike mention,commentary and footage,awesome Carl 👏👏👏🚴🏿
Cheers Noel. An eBike would have been great for this one!

Agree, Beech to Yak awesome but every smile was earned three fold. No back up for me .... just the promise of a pub

Correct on every count. Cheers Carl 🤟
This is now on the to-do list
This and Mystic make a great weekend 🤟. But I'll be going to Narooma before returning here 👍🏼

Great edit! That climb on a +30° day looked brutal though.
Ha cool, Im glad I got that across. It was difficult to show the depths of pain and fear 😎
That looked brutal and brilliant all in one. Im glad I own an Eeb for that caper. Homeward bound looked the business. Big effort Carl! Well done mate.
'BRUTAL & BRILLIANT'. Maybe that should have been the title? It sure fits the ride 👍🏼 An eeb would have been good for surr. Cheers Jules 🤟
Those must have been some extra delicious beers! Those ones are my favourite!
Specialist craft beers after a ride like that - rarely more tasty. Though I didn't taste the first 🤟
Well done! I've gotta get out there on my sight! (But it is the VLT, so should be easier!)
Worth the trip, and with a Volt these trails would be heaven
Oooft what a mission!!!
That it was Luke.
You and Froff had a better idea in eBikes and only 30k 👍🏼
@@malmtb yeah we ended up doing about 45 by the end of it. Lots of back and forth filming lol.
@@cutlaps yeah nice. I had little energy for filming
@@malmtb ebike for the win!
Terrific video 👏. I’ve shuttled this once. I’ll be back to it one again one day
Cheers Nick , appreciated. Its worth getting back to, the scenery and back country vibe is pretty special, maybe with eBike though 🤣
@@malmtb yeah I was thinking I would take my e-bike next time. I got lucky with the shuttle last time
brilliant mate! I havent done a hard yakka ride in so long!
you did it the real mtber way! good stuff dude!
great video as always
Cheers John - is there another way to do it?
Thankyou 🤟
no there isnt!! :D

Yep, I'm familiar with that sound of breathing.. ha!

Sensational, great edit mate!!... That's a ride I wanna do - and I must. So, it begs the question.. would you do it again?
