Damn, you landed as if you've done that before! ;) Gliders are just so cool these days, just mad to think you are flying faster than many motorized GA airplanes and helicopters, sure, you might need to do some circling and stuff to get altitude at times but still, its amazing! :D
Good seeing you and your glider in person today. I am one of the tow pilots at the Uvalde WGC. With your self launcher I guess that you will not need my service!?😂
Hey, have an awesome contest week, I'm jealous for sure! That was an awesome final glide. I had a great flight over the cascades on 08/08, Team flew with Ron Clark. We had a race to finish at the end, not quite as fast as your new Bird though, that glider must be a dream!
very nice! I have delivered via overseas container shipments (1980 ish) era, the French made gliders to Canyon City airport. Stephan, thank you awesome aviation footage indeed! E. :) likes here! 🙂
Sounds really tough with the heat on the ground! Probably still hot when coming lower for landing in the evening? Running a little AC unit off the batteries would be amazing! Since it's just 1kW for an efficient electric car, should be a bit less still for the small cockpit (even though it has a lot of sun coming in). So 10h or so of AC should be possible with a full battery charge! Maybe pitch the idea to Schleicher 😄 Would be great to dry the air as well in moist conditions to stop the canopy from fogging up.
Great 👍 But bumpy as hell… flew dozens of times over the same lands back in the mid-eighties first in small Cessnas (172 / 182) and later in a Piper Aerostar… have fun Stefan! Holm & Rippenbruch 🎉
Awesome!.. This is what your AS33 was made for! Going FAST in super conditions! [EDIT, removed my remark about Oxygen, this flight was max 2500 meters, noticed in Weglide :-)] About conquering the heat.. I have seen glider pilots in these very hot conditions wear bright white oversized long sleeve shirts to keep the heat out of their body, where the sleeves sits very loosely atound your arms with lot of air between the sleeve and your skin. The blue jeans shirt you wear in this video was quite tight around your body and would not keep the heat out. Just think of the Arabian people in the sahara desert...They all wear wide long white dresses that sit loosely around their bodies.. It is just the best way to keep the heat out. Also as a hat, I use a Hypercool baseball cap or bandana when it gets above 30 degrees celcius. Just Before flight soak it in cold water, and during flight the silica gel slowly evaporates the water, keeping your head cool, this takes about 3-4 hours... A small wet towel around your neck also helps... If it gets so hot I always take a wet towel with me, and the hypercool cap. This really helps! Anyway, Please take good care of yourself! a Happy pilot wins contests!.
Stefan - maybe one day do a video on how you physically prepare for that kind of heat! In florida we see 37-39°C on the field. If you get low during a flight, it gets really uncomfortable really fast. Which can be unsafe in itself. I see you're wearing pants and long sleeves. What type of material is it to stay cool? Also, do you bring ice packs or anything like that with you?
Mega Stefan, viel Erfolg mit Deinen Tasks! Hattest Du schon mal einen Unfall? Wenn ja, wie ist das abgelaufen und was ist Dir dabei so durch den Kopf gegangen?
G,day Stefan from Sydney Australia. Just couldn't see the border wall in the video. Why do you carry water in the wings? Is it called the ballest, like a ship on the ocean? Moreover is for stability in the roll axis? 🌏🇦🇺
More ballast is better for great thermal conditions. You can fly faster with the same glide ratio but of course it will take slightly more time to climb in a thermal. In Germany the thermals are not as strong as here in Texas.
@@budyeddi5814 When circling in a thermal, the plane gains potential energy, just by the mass of the plane being elevated. The more mass you have, the more energy the plane gains with the height increasing. When gliding forward, the potential energy is transformed into forward thrust. The more mass you have the more energy is available, which means you can fly faster.
@@budyeddi5814It is similar like riding cart or bike downhill, heavier person goes faster(similar resistance but hire force from gravity on same slope)
Excellent soaring in Texas!!! History abounds there also. Have a magnificent time Stefan! A chance of a lifetime to soar at an old giderport! Keep us posted.....Toodie
I see you have 3 varios, one in the main screen which uses the Larus, one should be an LXNAV S10 (w/Hawk?), and one seems a prototype which I assume uses the Larus as well. Is the S10 there to test the new prototype and Larus?
The prototype is an Air Traffic Display with modified software and also displays the Larus data. I only installed the S10 because it was not sure if a normal ENL logger is enough for this electric glider. Since only LXNav offers a logger with MOP sensor, I decided to go for the S10 as a backup vario. At the end the IGC is still testing if the MOP is necessary in the AS33 Me and for WGC it was approved to fly without MOP.

Holy cow that is amazing weather. I hope the comp is the same and you have a great time.

Amazing flight and excellent work and a Masterclass in soaring to boot!! Thanks for sharing Stefan!
Great pilot and glider. Nice movie!
This is awesome! Welcome to Uvalde. My mom, grandpa, son and I watch y’all land every evening. My son is obsessed with all planes lol
glad you already meet my friends from Brasil!

Oh he will! Those batteries won't get you home if you're really far away and the day dies. $5 he uses aerotow. Let me know! 😂

Verrückt wie du bei 40°C+ fliegen kannst, mir war gestern bei 33°C schon fast zu warm um zu fliegen.
Best of luck Stefan, looking forward to optimising the Larus when I’m back in Australia.

Great flight, excellent speed. The air conditioner is a great idea for this conditions.
Great training flight!
Hope you do very well at the WGC, Stefan. 😊👍

The AS33 is the nicest is'nt it? Steve? You'll make it. 👍🍀
Habe ich das richtig gesehen, du hast Mexiko und einiges entlang der Grenze verpixeln müssen? Oder es war Zufall in meiner Videowiedergabe :-)

What camera do you use if you mind me asking? Im thinking about buying an action camera to record my flights too!
Come to Cabos !!! Wanna meet you
May I ask; where do you mount the 360 camera in the glider?

Yes, it is called water ballast.
You take water with you on days with very good thermals.
It helps you fly faster more efficiently
y its bad ass for sure! :)
Hi Stef, you should Ask for an AC option...😂
Could you elaborate on the ballast? What does more ballast do? What did you mean about the weather in Germany?
More ballast is better for great thermal conditions. You can fly faster with the same glide ratio but of course it will take slightly more time to climb in a thermal. In Germany the thermals are not as strong as here in Texas.

Which club or school in Texas? Which is the best place in Texas for gliding?

@@SteFly You should integrate an IGC logger in Larus or Stefly Nav!😅
@@pp2793 We are working on an IGC logger for the Larus ;)
Cool, how close to Mexico are you allowed? Can you cross the border?
Are you adding flap when ascending in a thermal?
Still cant comprehend how this works.
Is the weather good?😊
Stephen, why not fes?

I'll be on soaring spot for two weeks. Very curious if the JS-5 can defeat the EB's.
