I still can't get over the fact you put that many squares on it. Unreal haha. Looks great! A sub recently returned after a long deployment just covered in green.
SUPERIOR weathering "TASL" Your use of references is Also Excellent from 'Navsource'!! I use it for my A/Cs, while looking for a specific time line for the ship. A Plethora of different kinds of 'Ammo MiG' "Oilbrushes" and 'AK Interactive' colors. "encased in resin"..... " W H A T !!! " J/K..... I know what you intentions are. Seriously, as a USN Veteran of 20+ years ( not a "Silent Service" member ), It Looks GREAT!!!! Seriously, GREAT!
I had the same kit not long ago. It was... we'll say "lost at sea." Anyway, I had given up on plans for modeling the tiles, but the weathering you did on yours is what I *dreamed* to achieve! Excellent work!
Thank you! I’ve had quite a few of those kits over the years and I know that feeling. Maybe I’ll have to fire up the cad software and make one that can be resin printed, that way everyone can get the effect without the laborious task of doing it one by one
@@throughasmallerlens You could make a whole correction set while you're at it! As I'm sure you discovered, there are a handful of inaccuracies with the kit.
Don't know, but in the hunt for the red october clip, where jack ryan tries to get aboard her, you see two or three pipes behind the sail, almost like small mushrooms or so. Is it that kinda detail you are missing?
Hmm, the masts? Yeah I haven’t added those in yet, I’m going to leave them off until I encase it in resin so I don’t accidentally bump them and mess them up as they’re quite thin and I’m a little too clumsy to avoid bumping them haha
I thoroughly enjoyed both videos of this build but as a merchant mariner I think the dark waterline growth is perfect but beneath that the greenish algae belt stretches too far underwater. I only offer this opinion because you asked and it is no way meant to be demeaning to your excellent work.
Thank you! Yeah I waffled a little bit on how far down from the crown to bring it. Some photos showed it only going to 60 or so degrees, while others show it to 90 like I’ve done. I think if I wasn’t putting it in resin I would’ve went with the 60 degree cutoff, but here’s hoping this has a nice “pop” of color through the water.

The thought was it’s been out on deployment for a while and it’s getting a VERTREP to continue to stay out, so I’m glad it gives that vibe
well done! Looking forward to the next part!
Thank you! The little CH-53 will be a nice reward for getting here haha

Thank you very much for the kind words! I’ve only ever browsed Navsource for subs haha! I’ll have to take a look at their other collections.
Real nice, real nice!
Thank you!
AMAZINGNES!!!

Quite a few sadly. I’d also want to make a 1/350th VA while I’m at it haha, the kit on the market isn’t the best either.
Great work! Curious why you didn’t apply the acoustic tiles on the sail.
Looking at references, I couldn’t really pick out a pattern on the sail, so I left it as is based on my references
@@throughasmallerlens Well, I knew it wasn’t because you’re lazy 😀
came for the modeling, stayed for the osrs music
I’m glad you enjoyed it! OSRS music is a gem to me haha

I think the white decals on top are a little too bright for the scale. Just a nitpick. Excellent work.
Hmm, I’ll see what I can do with the diorama. Looking at more references I should’ve just left them off, oops!
@@throughasmallerlens White decals are almost always too bright on models. You can use a wash but I usually use pastels to bring down the contrast.
