Holy crap can’t believe someone is reacting to this album. Godflesh is one of the most important bands in my life. During my teen years no other band came close to blow my mind like they did. Although saying that the first time I listened to them I didn’t get it cause I was heavily into death metal at the time and didn’t understand. But came back again and again and eventually everything clicked.
Wanted to mention Godflesh were inspired by the early works of swans. Godflesh is an incredible group with their own distinctive brand of dark, sludgy industrial and I’m super excited for your reactions to their remarkably consistent discography- but I’d highly also recommend checking out swans at some point too. Their early stuff is a grating fusion of sludge/industrial metal and a dark, experimental punk style known as “No Wave.” Filth and cop are both near-masterpieces so I’d recommend just starting from their beginning if you would consider reacting :) Hope you enjoy if so, no worried if not. Love your content!
Broadrick is a total genius, he is being so underrated despite all the great things he brought to the table in terms of music, heaviness and creativity - and the bass of Ben Green is incredibly heavy and apparently simple, but it requires a zen calm to use those superheavy notes!!! :D Great video!!! An album I would recommend to you in terms of crazy strong music - but it's a heavy one, Today Is The Day "And Sadness Will Prevail" got some of these noisy guitars as well!, and "A Sun That Never Sets" by Neurosis - that is such an emotional, slow, hard album it could really surprise you!!! Greetings from Italy
I absolutely love their style of music, there's something so intense about the way they use that repetitive rhythm across this record, it's like the music is crushing you with so much force. It almost forces you into a sort of cathartic trance when listening to it (or at least that's the effect it has on me). Thank you for the further album suggestions, I will have to check them both out!
Yeah, Streetcleaner is amazing. So glad I checked this one out! Godflesh has such a unique sound that I am quickly becoming addicted to, so I'd love to check out Jesu in the future as well.
Hey Molly, hope you're well! If you are interested in the origins of the early Godflesh-Sound, maybe you wanna try some Swans - BIG influence! - like "FILTH" or "COP". It's really heavy shit and very pure. Broadrick said somewhere something like: Swans are the real grindcore. Enjoy your journey !
That's good to know! I've had Swans on my list of bands to check out, but I'll try and get to them even sooner now knowing that they're such an influence for this style of music.
That must've been amazing seeing them live! I'll certainly keep my eyes out on their touring schedule, I'd love to go to one of their shows if I get the chance.
Surprised to get a new video so soon, but glad it’s for GODFLESH of all bands! They have an interesting evolution over the years but don’t worry, their just as dark, nihilistic & sludgy on the rest! lol Whenever you feel like total garbage or sick, Streetcleaner feels like a weird hug (like it understands what your going through) A delightfully apocalyptic wasteland of an album featuring just two guys (Justin on guitar/vocals & G.C. on bass) and a drum machine. One of the best releases in industrial music alongside Psalm 69, NIHIL, Too Dark Park & The Downward Spiral
I love your description... "a delightfully apocalyptic wasteland of an album." That really describes the sound of this record so well, haha! But yeah Godflesh really did an amazing job with Streetcleaner and I am so excited to hear even more of their discography now.
@@mollyesanbornglad to hear it! Because Godflesh is heavily influenced by Post-Punk, I’m curious if you’ve checked out bands in that style? (the darker stuff in particular like Joy Division, Killing Joke & The Chameleons especially)
cool reaction Molly. I had a few years of really being into these industrial metal sounds in the early 90s when I was getting into anything and everything "extreme metal". Godflesh of course and others Swamp Terrorists, Scorn, Fear Factory, Pitch Shifter, Skrew are ones I remember with the industrial sounds.
Really into your appreciation for industrial metal. I love industrial metal and techno-industrial a lot. I highly recommend digging into KMFDM (try their albums "Nihil" and "Angst") and Front 242 (try albums "Tyranny for You" and 06:21:03:11 Up Evil), oh I almost forgot about Frontline Assembly and their album "Millennium"
Industrial metal is my jam haha! I'm already hooked on Godflesh and can't wait to discover more in the genre. And thanks for the suggestions, I'll be sure that I've got KMFDM, Front 242 and Frontline Assembly all on my list to check out.
Great reaction! One band you should DEFINITELY react to at some point is Swans. They were not only Godflesh’s biggest influence (you’ll hear many similarities in their early material) but they were also a huge influence on genres such as Sludge Metal, Industrial Metal, Noise Rock, etc. They were quite possibly the heaviest, most intense band of the early/mid 80s and they weren’t even a Metal band though they came close! Filth would be a perfect album to start off with!
Something visceral about Godflesh. Someone made a video of Christbait Rising with Russell's Altered States and it blends so well! One of the best videos out there. I suggest.
As a Birmingham based music fan, these guys are one of the best in the pioneering style through the industrial metal genre. Speaking of heavy, I highly recommend Strapping Young Lad as they are one of my top favourite bands in the genre, although they were technical/chaotic and more extreme. SYL was Devin Townsend's band. He has made a ton of albums through different styles and moods through metal to progressive genres.
Listening to Streetcleaner I can definitely hear how influential Godflesh was on the industrial music scene. They definitely have such a unique quality to their sound that blends a lot of elements together. I'm very curious to progress through their discography now and hear more of their work. And thanks for the suggestion! I have Strapping Young Lad on my list of bands to get to in the future, I'll have to try and get to them soon :)
One of the greatest industrial metal albums of all time! I put it up there with Ministry's "The Mind" and Strapping Young Lad's "City" (Two other albums I'd recommend if you haven't heard them.)
Very insightful observations of this album. Justin's back catalog is all encompassing filled with vastly different soundscapes but still ends up sounding like him if that makes any sense. This album was my gateway to other projects of his. Streetcleaner is one my favorite Godflesh albums along with Selfless. No one Godflesh album or ep sounds like the next thing even if theres a continuity running through it. Jesu is probably the most vulnerable and morose sounding music of Justin's career. The heartache ep and the self titled are my personal favorites. The whole thing you were saying about Godflesh sounding ethereal and almost choir like gets amped up to 11 with jesu. Good review/reaction...
Godflesh has so many great albums. Check out Us & Them, Selfless, Messiah, A world lit only by fire, etc. If you like Godflesh, you might also like the Neurosis, Isis, & Sumac catalogs. Love the reviews.
Really liking your channel. Enjoyed your review of Rammstein and Sigur Rós. Only started listening to Jónsi. Have you already listened to Rammstein's Sehnsucht? I mostly like non-English songs but get how that's limiting to how much you can offer in terms of reviewing. However, do have English artist recommendations. How do you receive initial recommendations? I see the poll but wondering if you curate the list from comments or put up an initial poll for ideas.
Thanks so much, really glad that you're enjoying the videos. I have so far only heard Mutter from Rammstein, I may plan on doing some more of their albums in the future. As for suggestions, just leave a comment on any of the videos and I will see them, I have a list going of all of the bands and albums that are recommended by you all. I sometimes do polls in the community tab but not often, for the most part I just go with what seems to be suggested the most in the comments :)
I'm excited too, Meshuggah for sure has been high up on my list of bands I wanna get to soon! I have actually heard Gojira already though, in fact I did a discography ranking video for them a while back on the channel if you're interested :) ruclips.net/video/nICgm1dC2GU/видео.htmlsi=HpneK6b5jq4dMwfD
@@mollyesanbornAwesome, I saw you got to Meshuggah! Also have you heard Death? One of the only bands where every album is a classic, one of the first and probably the best death metal bands of all time.
Great album, innovative and influential. I would like to recommend you other equally powerful and important albums: 'The Land of Rape and Honey' by Ministry and 'Umber' by Bitch Magnet.
Here listening at work. Loving their sound. Working on a thorny project. I feel like I'm the locust in that cocoon being assaulted. Or protected with that sound wall. Trying to decide where they fit between/above/around Godsmack or Fleshwater😆
You explained the sound of this record really well, listening to Streetcleaner I couldn't tell if it felt like I was being attacked or calmed by the heaviness. Weirdly kinda both at the same time... there's something oddly relaxing about this style of music, at least to my ears. I'm glad you're enjoying Godflesh too!
@@mollyesanborn There is a wildly underrated hard rock band from Ireland called Therapy? There album Trouble gum was a college music radio classic in the 90's, they got plowed under by grunge but that record is one of my favorites from that time.
in november of 1989, i bought "Streetcleaner" when it first released. mind-blowing then, and still is, but they had an LP released in 1988. it's been remastered and re-released a few times but this was their true debut: ruclips.net/video/miYlczfsPh4/видео.html
One of the most hateful and misanthropic albums I've ever heard.. Rolling Stones placed this album in top 100 best metal albums of all time, kirk hammett from Metallica, and Phil Anselmo from Pantera, Mike Patton from Faith No More are all big fans. Every single Godflesh album sounds different from one another, but they all have that dense Godflesh signature,
I absolutely loved this album, something about the oppressive heaviness of its sound I find oddly relaxing when I listen to it. I'll certainly be doing more of Godflesh's albums here on the channel, I can't wait to check out more of their music! They're quickly becoming one of my favorite bands, I love their style of music so much.
@@mollyesanbornI first discovered this album back in the 90s from listening to Monday Night Mayhem on WSOU, the radio station of Seton Hall University in New Jersey. It would start at 11pm and go until 2am so I totally get the relaxing aspect of it. Bonus being I’d have freshly taped Godflesh (and others) songs to listen to on the school bus a few hours later. Ah the good old days.
If you think it can't get filthier than this, the record before Streetcleaner (self-titled) was released in 1988 and it is less polished production wise which gives it more raw and dirty sound, with heavier bass and louder drum machine sound, probably the sickest introduction ever! (I hope what i said was not a spoiler 😭)
If you dig this one you should absolutely check out Swans’ two first albums, ‘Filth’ and ‘Cop’. Not as groovy, but every inch as heavy if not more. Justin has stated early Swans as a big influence several times and the similarities are obvious, especially on Streetcleaner. Streetcleaner is a stone classic on it’s own merits, though. No one knew what to make of it at all when it dropped onto the unsuspecting Metal scene in 1989, but it definitely left it’s mark. Nine Inch Nails, Ministry, Faith No More and countless other rock bands got much heavier and brutal after this one. Godflesh changed the sound of Heavy music for the future without most people knowing and it’s amazing to see how that continues to this day.
Goddamnit I just wrote a similar paragraph and then read yours haha So true though early swans are the sleeper hit of industrial metal. Teeeechnically not metal albums I’ve heard some folks say but idc it sounds like metal to me.
I'd love to give Swans a listen too, I've had them suggested to me before on the channel but knowing they were such a big influence on this style of music I'm even more intrigued to hear them.
Godflesh never saw themvselves as a Metal band as well, but they became known as one as their label, Earache Records, and their network was primarily known for cultivating and pushing the most extreme Metal there was at the time. I guess that’s how one pushes the establishment from the inside :)
@@mollyesanborn Swans have changed their style so many times over the years, so you'll get a different experience with each album of theirs you listen to. As the original poster mentioned though, Filth and Cop are the two albums that sound like they had the biggest influence on Godflesh.
You did it! One of the greatest bands to ever exist, no one else does it better. 2 people and a drum machine.... They were like 18 or something when they recorded this. Purest expression of industrial crushing heaviness. Justin Broadrick is one of my musical heroes.
I've always felt this was one of the most important metal albums of all-time and pushed the boundaries of what the genre was capable of. The guitars in metal pre-Streetcleaner were very riff and solo-oriented, but on Streetcleaner, the guitars are used more to create these sort of textured, atmospheric, sonic soundscapes. It inspired bands like Neurosis, Isis, and a lot of groups in the post-metal movement that was really big in the 2000's.
I saw them on this tour. They were playing with Napalm Death and Nocturnus. I had never seen photos of any of these band but the usual look at the time was long hair and band t-shirts. I was hanging out in the crowd waiting for the show to start. This strange, almost hyperactive, little bald guy in regular clothes came up to me and asked me for some weed, which I didn't have. I saw him ask several others too. Imagine my surprise when he walks out onstage about 20 minutes later, pushes the button on a drum machine and launches into this. So yeah, Justin Broadrick hit me up for weed and I didn't know who he was. This record is bone crushingly heavy in a way that was just brand new when it came out. Not like the Death Metal or Doom stuff everyone else was doing. It took the Industrial sounds of Ministry and NIN into new territory. The productions values add to the effect, as you kept commenting on. I always picked up on all the religious themes too. Even the name Godflesh has religious overtones. In Christianity, Jesus is sometimes referred to as God made flesh. This record gets better with more listens and I'm really glad you are enjoying it so much the first time around. Streetcleaner is my favorite track.
That's a great story, thanks for sharing! I'd love to see Godflesh live at some point, that's gotta be pretty amazing to hear this music in person. They really have such a unique style of industrial metal, so heavy and although there is something weirdly upbeat at times about this album, it's a different vein of industrial from what I'm used to with the likes of Ministry and NIN, etc. I love it though, just so suffocating with its tone. I'll certainly be checking more of their music out now.
@@mollyesanborn Yeah, it was a really exciting time. A lot of new ground was being broken. Industrial, Death Metal, Grindcore and Doom were all new genres just beginning to emerge and define themselves. Thrash itself was pretty new and it was spawning off and influencing this new stuff. And the shows were insane. A hundred or so people in some dive club where the moshing and stage diving was unchecked. The bands freely mingled with the fans so you got to meet people. All for like $10 at the door for three or four bands on the bill. I wish I had a time machine. LOL. You'd have fit in the scene pretty well and been a welcome addition.
@@metalrules1135 that sounds incredible, lucky you had that experience. I agree it would be so cool to have the ability to travel back and relive those early shows!
@@peroskarstorholm4196 Could very well be. I never heard or read an interview where Broadrick discussed his beliefs. His later band was Jesu, so there is that too. He may not be trying to send any message. I vaguely recall an interview where he said he just puts things out there for people to think about and decide for themselves.
I found your channel through your Björk ranking video, so I cackled when I saw this was your most recent vid. It is awesome that you are covering such a variety of artists. This album rocks.
Haha, thanks for following the channel! It seems like SO long ago that I made that Björk ranking, time sure does fly. Yeah my music range has sure expanded quite a bit since them, I'm so happy to be discovering all of these incredible bands.
Just FYI, the last 4 tracks were taken from their Tiny Tears EP. The original pressing of the album stopped after Locust Furnace. That's why those last 4 tracks had a bit of a different sound, a bit less sludgy and more uptempo. But yeah, this album is a classic. Love Godflesh!
I love 1:00 when it all clicks and the head nod kicks in. That's a proper Godflesh moment there, along withthe goosebumps, may you enjoy many, many, more. ;)
Good choice to start, great video. Knew you'd enjoy it after seeing you excited by the new ones. Where to go next ? just complete the discography one by one (don't skip Cold World single and Merciless EP), check how JKB and this project was developing, each album a bit different from the last. Once that is done.. Fall of Because (proto Godflesh, very reminicsent, '86), Sweet Tooth (another side project, "super group", bit more different than Godflesh but I've never heard JKB plays guitar like that, showing how versatile he is, released just one sueprb album, very unique)
Yes, I'll definitely continue with Godflesh! Thanks for the other suggestions as well, I know Justin Broadrick has done more stuff outside of Godflesh so I'll definitely keep those in mind as well.
@@mollyesanborn He's done a ton of things, a lot of different genres.. you've mentioned kinda hip hop beats during one of the tracks. During the 90's he participated in a group called Techno Animal.. yeah, kinda "hip hop". Pretty much anything he's involved in is gold, but those two I mentioned are the top with Godflesh IMO. Can't wait to see you enjoy more of them :)
absolutely agree! 'fall of because' and 'sweet tooth' are great and so unusual sounding. i would also add 'cable regime' which co-produced by broadrick. not to mention 'god', 'ice', 'techno animal', 'greymachine', 'jk flesh (especially "posthuman" album)', 'valley of fear' ... a rabbit hole
hellooo, it's me again... xD Yes, you still haven't listened to Isis, that's okayyy... but actually, Godflesh is a good starting point since it had a strong influence on Isis and.... if you think this was the heaviest album yet, then you might actually start with EARLY Isis stuff... Mosquito Control.. The Red Sea... Celestial... SGNL05... only to then follow their progression into the best and most epic Post-Metal band of all time (imo, but i'm not the only one). Great chance! Another, very dear recommendation would be Killing Joke. THAT is a band that absolutely everybody needs to know, i promise.
ive never heard this, or really anything by Godflesh, it reminds me me of VERY early Swans. if you havent already, id LOVE to see your reaction to Filth.
god i love this review! over the last few months since the end of last yr ive been in an endlessly autistic obsession around Justin Broadrick and all his musical works. as he revealed not too long ago before the release of "Purge", he's been coming to terms w/ his own autistic + PTSD diagnoses, and it's so clear to hear elements of such in a lot of the Godflesh discography over time. i would LOVE for u to try out their 1992 released "Pure" which "Purge" is directly inspired by, over three decades on. on "Pure", u'll get to witness the most divine hip-hop / industrial/noise metal cross-over on that album. i mean, the title track wonderfully interpolates the rhythm sample of Eric B & Rakim's "Let The Rhythm Hit Em", while Green strums away on bass, Broadrick thrashes lead guitar and his guttural screams carry the beat! it's another remarkable cornerstone in the journey of Godflesh and i honestly think u would really enjoy it ❤
Basically everything Justin Broadrick is involved with rules. Highly recommend the album 'Disconnected' by Greymachine, probably the heaviest and most punishing JB release (at least IMO).
How in the fuck do you sooooo get it upon first listen?! 😂 I love Godflesh but this album in particular is among my top 20 of all time! You get every nuance, every style, every impression!
Haha I'm honestly not sure, but Godflesh is certainly one of those bands that scratches a very unique itch that I have when it comes to music. I absolutely love their style and sound, they've already become one of my favorite bands and I haven't even heard much of their discography yet!
As per other comments, never expected this album to feature on a reaction video. I bought the album after hearing John Peel play a track on his radio show. Not actually listened to it in a long while which i must rectify very soon. Got to see them 10 years ago and they def didn't disappoint. Support band Khost were pretty good too.
This album is fckn sick!! When do you plan to dwell deeper into the alice in chains/jerry cantrell rabbithole? Really anticipating your reaction to their newer albums and Jerry's solo work!
I'm not sure exactly when but I'll plan on it at some point! I'd love to hear more AIC/Jerry Cantrell stuff, I'll probably finish off with Alice In Chains next so The Devil Put Dinosaurs Here will likely be my next video for them :)
Godflesh is a band I have been wanting to check out since you made that video of best albums of 2023, but didn't know where to begin. Streetcleaner seems like a good start. I mean I managed to enjoy Calculating Infinity and One of us is the Killer by Dillenger Escape plan. Plus I am obsessed with California by Mr. Bungle, I have been playing that Non Stop. Godflesh is Next!
Heck yeah!!! Definitely check out Streetcleaner, this album really sucks you in with its sound, I love how brutally heavy it is but yet there's this amazing sort of hollow and atmospheric quality about it as well. From what I've heard so far from Godflesh they seem to be masters at bringing a ton of heaviness with very minimal instrumentation, it's impressive stuff.
Yeah I'm quickly falling in love with Godflesh's sound! I'll definitely be checking out more of their albums. And thanks for the suggestion, I'll make sure it's on my list :)
Definitely check out Crush My Soul by Godflesh. The guitar tone on that is insanely good, and very unusual. I haven't heard any of their recent output but you've inspired me to do so.
Ooh that makes me so excited to hear that track!! I'll definitely keep progressing with their discography and I'll be looking forward to that song when I get to their Selfless album.
It's interesting how you always assign qualities and ownership to things.. like instead the drums BEING pounding, they "have such a pounding quality to them" or "there is such a heaviness to this" xD
Love Godflesh. Bought my first cassette of theirs on a whim because at that time you just went by record label and hoped it was a good album. This was Slavestate and expecting death metal I was shocked yet curious not having heard anything like it. After awhile I really liked it. No doubt, they have the heaviest, most crushing, wall of immense distortion. Cold, relentless, bleek, void of light. The drum machine adds to the inhumanity. This is what real industrial music is. Cold, mechanical, metallic, Grey, bleak. The guitar either a wall of lead heavy distortion or scraping metallic squeals flying like grinding sparks against concrete. Bass again plodding gutteral lead like weight sinking into a bleak black infinite ocean.
Scorn was the other two thirds of Napalm Death's original line-up. Their album "Evanescence" is the last one featuring Nick Bullen, the bassist vocalist. They have evolved from a sound reminiscent of Godflesh (Boadrick played on early tracks) but this album has more of a narcotic quality to it. For a nice change, but still in the same universe.
Other Godflesh' albums that are also worth to check are "Godflesh" EP and "Messiah" EP, originally "Streetcleaner" album ends with the "Streetcleaner" song.
You need to listen to the song 'Love is a Dog From Hell'. Originally released after the Streetcleaner album on the Pathological compilation but now found on the Godflesh comp 'In All Languages'. You'll fall in love with it instantly.
I can recommend Godflesh’s fifth album ‘Us & Them’, as well as the album ‘Silver’ by one of Justin Brodericks other projects Jesu. It’s also be interesting to see you react to Converge’s epic ‘Jane Doe’!!
I'll definitely plan on doing more Godflesh on the channel, and I'd love to hear Jesu as well. And Jane Doe is an absolutely brilliant album! I actually did a Converge discography ranking a while back on the channel if you were interested :) ruclips.net/video/fT3yVXRJxII/видео.htmlsi=9-mFZoqsaDrgpGcQ
Great suggestion, I will absolutely consider doing a video for that album soon! Meshuggah is a band I am not familiar with but a lot of people have suggested them to me so I'd love to take the plunge into their discography as well.
Absolutely adore this album. Broadrick's an interesting character + a VERY busy one, guy always seems to be doing different projects. "Like Rats" reminds me of growing up white-trash on a UK council estate (social housing), it sums it up quite well. Was so into this album as a teen, as an adult still very much so, but it doesn't always take me to a "good place", but the fierceness of it, the biting anger makes a lot of other "heavy" bands seem like absolute lightweights. Justin (main vocal)'s been pretty open about his struggles with mental health, dude's pretty inspirational and it's great to see them back to releasing music. You might well enjoy Jesu - also Justin's project, they're much more on that floaty, spacey, spacious vibe. Worth mentioning, I'm pretty sure that vocal sample at the start of the track "Streetcleaner" is Peter Sutfliffe, the Yorkshire Ripper. He was nicknamed The Streetcleaner by the Yorkshire Police Force as the detectives thought he was "taking out the trash" :/ "Tiny Tears" - as in weeping/crying - I like to think of this as the evil flipside to Phil Spector - it's a realy Wall of Sound, completely engulfing - great reaction, certainly hope you're well + you "got" the catharsis of what's happening here is excellent. Such an underrated band + special mention to B.C. Green for his ongoing work as the 2nd half of Godflesh.
Thanks for the comment, you make some great points. I'll have to check out more of Justin Broadrick's other projects including Jesu, I'd love to hear them!
It gotta be one of the heaviest crushing tones I’ve ever heard in an album, you feel your bowels turn to liquid.
Haha, yeah such a heavy album! Unrelenting heaviness from beginning to end.

Industrial metal is my jam haha! I'm already hooked on Godflesh and can't wait to discover more in the genre. And thanks for the suggestions, I'll be sure that I've got KMFDM, Front 242 and Frontline Assembly all on my list to check out.
You do the best albums Molly - ❤
Wow this was an amazing and insightful reaction. Such a great album
Thank you so much! Yeah this album is incredible, so glad I've finally given it a listen.
GREAT REVIEW of a brilliant album. Your facial expressions say it all. Brava!! :)
Thanks so much, glad you enjoyed the reaction! :)
I remember listening to the title track over and over while driving around in my youth. Loved the sound of that song. Great album all together.
Absolutely classic album and hugely influential on what was to come in Metal.
this girl is actually explaining this the way I want but never could
Thanks so much! This album is AMAZING, I will definitely plan on doing more Godflesh here on the channel :)
Something visceral about Godflesh.
Someone made a video of Christbait Rising with Russell's Altered States and it blends so well!
One of the best videos out there.
I suggest.
Thanks for letting me know, I'll have to give that video a watch.
City is an absolutely furious album. One of the angriest I’ve ever heard.
Wow. Great video review. Love your descriptive narratives.
Thanks for watching! :)
Ayyy, if she's covering Godflesh there's hope for Thrice or Circa Survive 🙏
Yessss! I've got both of those bands on my list :)
You should check out Jesu’s “Silver” EP, it’s really beautiful.
Thanks for the suggestion, I'd absolutely love to give it a listen!
Dead eyes of the ep is top drawer.
I plan to have it played at my funeral
Yay! You finally listen to Godflesh's Streeetcleaner! I wonder if you listen to their whole discography.
she said she will, her music taste is about to be reborn lol
I'll definitely plan on diving more into Godflesh, I'm excited to hear more of their albums.
I’m excited for you to get into more heavier stuff. Some Meshuggah, Behemoth, Gojira etc.
I'm excited too, Meshuggah for sure has been high up on my list of bands I wanna get to soon! I have actually heard Gojira already though, in fact I did a discography ranking video for them a while back on the channel if you're interested :)

@@mollyesanbornAwesome, I saw you got to Meshuggah! Also have you heard Death? One of the only bands where every album is a classic, one of the first and probably the best death metal bands of all time.
Love the open minded approach.
The goat returned
Amazing album
I absolutely agree! I've been addicted to this record since filming the reaction.
Great album, innovative and influential. I would like to recommend you other equally powerful and important albums: 'The Land of Rape and Honey' by Ministry and 'Umber' by Bitch Magnet.
Reacciona a JESU. El proyecto mas shoegaze de Justin Broadrick.
Me encantaría escuchar a Jesu también :)
If you love this I strongly recommend Pitch Shifter and the albums Industrial and Desensitized. After that they changed their sound very much.
Thanks for the suggestion! I'll have to check out Pitch Shifter when I get the chance.
The album Visqueen by the band Unsane is pretty awesome, you might like them.
Ooh that's a new one for me, I'll make sure that it's on my list. Thanks for the suggestion!
@@mollyesanborn There is a wildly underrated hard rock band from Ireland called Therapy? There album Trouble gum was a college music radio classic in the 90's, they got plowed under by grunge but that record is one of my favorites from that time.
@@ghadrackpotato960 Trouble Gum by Therapy? got me into rock music. Unsane is also a cool suggestion! Very underrated band.
You’re so freaking pretty! Lol I couldn’t not say it ☺️
Thanks! :)
Head Dirt is my favorite track 🚒
in november of 1989, i bought "Streetcleaner" when it first released. mind-blowing then, and still is, but they had an LP released in 1988. it's been remastered and re-released a few times but this was their true debut:
ruclips.net/video/miYlczfsPh4/видео.html
The two greatest hidden gems are Xynobis (psychofuckdub) and Crush my Soul (ultramix)
I've always thought Streetcleaner was a far easier listen than Godflesh's influence, SWANS' COP or FILTH. Good luck with those two albums.
I'll definitely have to delve into Swans at some point... I'm very intrigued to hear them!
Listen to Jesu next, another brainchild of Justin Brodrick....
@@chimpinaneckbrace that's awesome... this is the perfect album to listen to during that time of night.
Pleaseeeee react to more Godflesh
Got another Godflesh reaction coming VERY soon! Stay tuned ;)
моє перше знайомство зі Streetcleaner відбулось у 1993 році і я відразу став фанатом GODFLESH. улюблені треки - Like Rats, Life Is Easy, Dead Head.
You should listen to Jesu's self titled too!
Yes! This is THE industrial metal album
I was thinking Streetcleaner was their debut album, I wasn't aware of their self-titled. I'll definitely have to give it a listen!
@@mollyesanborn it is an EP actually, Streetcleaner is indeed their debut Album
Their album selfless is great, sometimes it gets overlooked but its pure sludge
I'm excited to give that album a listen as well!
A woman that really likes Godflesh....where were you when I was in high school?
Lol right 😂
deez mfs sound crazy
Satellites I know your up there somewhere
Also FF of course and even Korn.
Goddamnit I just wrote a similar paragraph and then read yours haha
So true though early swans are the sleeper hit of industrial metal.
You're goddamn right
I saw them on this tour.
I heard they took the name from the psychedelic effects of mescaline traditionally being referred to as ‘the flesh of god’.
@@peroskarstorholm4196 Could very well be. I never heard or read an interview where Broadrick discussed his beliefs. His later band was Jesu, so there is that too. He may not be trying to send any message. I vaguely recall an interview where he said he just puts things out there for people to think about and decide for themselves.
godflesh are industrial gods
I found your channel through your Björk ranking video, so I cackled when I saw this was your most recent vid. It is awesome that you are covering such a variety of artists. This album rocks.
It's beautiful to see another Bjork/ Godflesh fan...I hope you are well!
Haha, thanks for following the channel! It seems like SO long ago that I made that Björk ranking, time sure does fly. Yeah my music range has sure expanded quite a bit since them, I'm so happy to be discovering all of these incredible bands.
Saw them live a few years ago and I couldn't stand up for 20 minutes after it because of how heavy it was
Just FYI, the last 4 tracks were taken from their Tiny Tears EP. The original pressing of the album stopped after Locust Furnace. That's why those last 4 tracks had a bit of a different sound, a bit less sludgy and more uptempo. But yeah, this album is a classic. Love Godflesh!
Ahh, thanks for the explanation! Yeah I definitely noticed that faster tempo toward the end of the record.
I love 1:00 when it all clicks and the head nod kicks in. That's a proper Godflesh moment there, along withthe goosebumps, may you enjoy many, many, more. ;)
I love Godflesh!! Their vibe is definitely consistent... What serial killers probably hear in their heads... I think you'd like Lustmord
Please try "God's Country" by Chat Pile !!!!!!
This album is quality, i really like a world only lit by flame. Give that on a listen.
@@gal2659 that's cool, yeah I can definitely hear that hip hop influence across this album. I'll have to check out Techno Animal at some point.
absolutely agree!
Thanks for the suggestions! I've got both ISIS and Killing Joke on my list of bands to check out.
@@mollyesanborn great to hear! Literally.
ive never heard this, or really anything by Godflesh, it reminds me me of VERY early Swans. if you havent already, id LOVE to see your reaction to Filth.
Noted, I would love to give Swans a listen soon!
Godflesh have cited swans as a major influence on their music in various interviews
god i love this review! over the last few months since the end of last yr ive been in an endlessly autistic obsession around Justin Broadrick and all his musical works. as he revealed not too long ago before the release of "Purge", he's been coming to terms w/ his own autistic + PTSD diagnoses, and it's so clear to hear elements of such in a lot of the Godflesh discography over time. i would LOVE for u to try out their 1992 released "Pure" which "Purge" is directly inspired by, over three decades on. on "Pure", u'll get to witness the most divine hip-hop / industrial/noise metal cross-over on that album. i mean, the title track wonderfully interpolates the rhythm sample of Eric B & Rakim's "Let The Rhythm Hit Em", while Green strums away on bass, Broadrick thrashes lead guitar and his guttural screams carry the beat! it's another remarkable cornerstone in the journey of Godflesh and i honestly think u would really enjoy it ❤
I look forward to hearing it! I'm absolutely loving what I've heard so far from Godflesh, their style of music is right up my alley.
React to Elysia-Lion Of Judas (2008) and For The Fallen Dreams- Relentless (2009).
Pig Destroyer-Prowler In The Yard (2001)
Thanks for the suggestions! :)
Basically everything Justin Broadrick is involved with rules. Highly recommend the album 'Disconnected' by Greymachine, probably the heaviest and most punishing JB release (at least IMO).
That album is almost unlistenable for how heavy it is
How in the fuck do you sooooo get it upon first listen?! 😂
I love Godflesh but this album in particular is among my top 20 of all time!
Khost is awesome, like a more spectral Godflesh, is a project by Andy Swan, longtime Justin collaborator on FINAL

🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
Scorn was the other two thirds of Napalm Death's original line-up.
Their album "Evanescence" is the last one featuring Nick Bullen, the bassist vocalist.
They have evolved from a sound reminiscent of Godflesh (Boadrick played on early tracks) but this album has more of a narcotic quality to it.
For a nice change, but still in the same universe.

If you enjoy how heavy this album is. I HIGHLY recommend the album Obzen by the band Meshuggah.
First time I listened I was genuinely in Awe
He was nicknamed The Streetcleaner by the Yorkshire Police Force as the detectives thought he was "taking out the trash" :/
"Tiny Tears" - as in weeping/crying - I like to think of this as the evil flipside to Phil Spector - it's a realy Wall of Sound, completely engulfing - great reaction, certainly hope you're well + you "got" the catharsis of what's happening here is excellent. Such an underrated band + special mention to B.C. Green for his ongoing work as the 2nd half of Godflesh.
Thanks for the comment, you make some great points. I'll have to check out more of Justin Broadrick's other projects including Jesu, I'd love to hear them!
Now you need to listen to Fear Factory’s Demanufacture and Killing Joke self-titled debut.
