The 1st one was impressive - did it in a very clean form, full stretch, full contraction (and even slightly beyond), controled movement, with knees bent so it was extra clean with no momentum for compensation. At age 40, 17 reps with such a clean form, that is impressive.

How i got to 20 pullups on a regular.
    1. Master australian pullups
    2. Isometric hold on APU
    3. Negatives on pullup bar
    4. Isometric holds on PU bar
    5. Band assisted PU and iso holds on last rep
    6. PU max 3x a week, day rest in between.
    7. Weighted PU
    Much love from Miami.

  • @danieleiliceto9290
    @danieleiliceto9290 5 лет назад +44

    let's recap
    1) train at least 3 times a week
    2) include negatives
    3) when hitting last rep, isometric hold at the top increases the max in the future
    4) keeping a brisk pace throughout the exercise will save energy for more pullups
    5) don't overlook other muscles (do push ups for ex)

As a guy who's been lifting a couple years now, I've learnt a lot things about lifting and body weight movements and the benefits of both are amazing and I'm still learning more to this day. Like for example learning different variations of pulls up like the L pull ups, learning about HIT workouts, and explove exercises like box jumps. The nice thing is with box jumps they help with your compound movements like your squats, shoulder press, bench press, and deadlifts

Static holds and negatives are the best way to build up your pull ups imo. Jump up to the bar if need be. once you can get a full rep with good form, extend the rep by doing 30+ second negatives. If you stay persistent with this technique, the reps will come.

I've found that my form is shit. I've struggled with it through my ego, but finally I've embraced it. Now I'm basically started to learn pull ups from scratch. Last friday I did 3 sets of pull up variations and then about 4 sets of negative pull ups. I swear, my lats are still sore (Today is Monday), which I don't think they ever did before.
It is frustrating and inspiring at the same time, because I did wrong shit for years, now I'm excited about improving my reps. I'm thinking about doing Armstrong's pull up program, which I found under one of your videos!
    Thank You!

What about weighted pull-ups? Like say you max out at 12 pull-ups, and you're doing this 2-3 times a week but can't make any progress towards that 13th rep...Try hanging even just a 10 lb weight off your waist, and when you go back to non-weighted your max -should- go up. This is the advice I have been given, and I'm trying it out now. Hopefully it works :)

  • @mayukhsen8195
    @mayukhsen8195 3 года назад +2

I used to think a lot about the perfect programming and this and that.... Sometimes I would try something and leave it after 7 days because it got me too sore....
It doesn't work that way. Go with simplicity.
You keep doing the exercise with a given variation or weight that lands you in the hypertrophy zone (studies dictate anything between your 6 to 30 rep max if done to failure)....
You give it your all to every set, and keep doing sets with a minute in between, you fuck those muscles up, with perfect form and all out honest effort....
*And then you come back to train again when the soreness is gone and you are fresh...*
Its that simple, everytime you come back fresh after a super hard workout, your muscles will be stronger. Your max rep may not increase session to session but you will be getting closer to doing that rep you usually fail at....
Do as many sets till failure per workout as you need to in order to be fully recovered within 72 hours. So aim to train each muscle group twice a week.
This is my recommendation for those trying to put on muscle.
Don't over think at all. You fuck the muscle up, you recover, you get stronger. The more cycles of these you do, the bigger and stronger you get.
Diet will play a huge role. Eat enough protein and include the healthiest foods on the planet for optimal physiological proficiency for athletic performance, the biggest superfoods on the planet are all types of green veggies, red lentil, indian gooseberry. Among others.

If you do pyramids on the pull up bar sets 1 pull up 10 (5 if less strong) push up, 2 pull up 10 push up, 3 pull up 10 push up, etc. Maybe do up to 5 or 7 sets (depending on strength) and once you hit say 7 sets then count back down to 1 with same routine. 6 pull ups 10 push up, 5 pull up 10 push up, back down to 1 or failure while changing your grip each set. That and wrist exercises.

Its inspiring to see lots of people wanting to take care of themselves however I know most of you need corrective exercices included in your routine cause when I started all I thought I had to do was stretch and thats mot good enough for the long term. If you dont you will eventually develop postural problems which can lead to injuries. Number one rule of fitness... DO NO HARM TO SELF

    Good content Ed,
I see ur grind in other videos, you became stronger and improved in fl,bl...
I would say that mix of few things helped me increase pullups reps.
1st is weighted pull ups,at least once at week do weighted and track your progress.
2nd is static holds(time under tension-tut) you cant imagine how this helps..after some time you will see boost.
3rd is and maybe most important,consistency..just be patient, dont get frustated everyone has bad days..but keep going.
Like old people say "Rome wasnt built in a day".
I increased my reps from 5 to 20 in half year.(or 7-8 months dk exacty).

some did very good but others were not full pull ups. Keep your head straight and get your chin over the bar, lifting your chin to get to the bar is not a good pull up. When I was much younger I could do 38 but now I am 70 yr it is like starting all over, my goal is to be able to do 3 sets of 20 buy the time I hit 71, and the same with dips, and 60 push ups non stop. I have a long way to go. So if your in good shape do not let it go as I did, It is hard to get it back at 70.

I think that their pullup max numbers would be at least a third lower if they did it properly. The first and the third guy were performing the exercise with the proper technique, at least for most of the reps before fatigue kicked in.

Eduardo Luque oh man, i had the same pain, first it was on the left shoulder, i trained with pain but that didnt go long, so had to stop and it took me 2 months to recover amd started again to workout after a month the same on the right shoulder, again 2 months recovery, i lost all my progress...its all up to you, recover from it and face a loss of your progress or continue and make it even worse lol

Sponge Bob stopping doesnt work, ots been like this for over a year or 2. I have to use resistance bands to help amd focus more on the movement. Doing pulldowns on machine doesnt hurt or i manage to move away from the pain.

switch to shoulder width chinups or neutral grip pullups and the pain will go away. If you take some rest at the beggining will be better

Eduardo Luque I think u were training with wide grip pull up ,I recommond stop doing pull up at all ,until the pain gone ,after it work with good form and do with close grip and shoulder apart grip
And go for shoulder trainning exercises ,good luck men

Will be interesting to know. Just be aware that most people's expectations of the rate of muscle grown are distorted from sensational videos, movies etc. The long haul is a slow road. I've been training over a year. Many times feeling so sore that I didn't really feel like sex because I was too physically KOed to be decent. But I'm not huge yet. It's gonna take time. A looot of time. I can probably only do a max of 13/14 after all this time. Also get some rings if you can, after your level aint bad! They are so fun and good for u.
