      White hats reflect some sun rays, and darker colors absorb them. It keeps your head cooler on really hot days. The sombrero is not just for fashion but for keeping the sun from directly hitting your head and to give shade to your face and back of neck. Sombra means shade in Spanish, hence the name sombrero...

    Thoroughbreds are long distance horses, quarter horses, hence the name, are the fastest horse to run a 1/4 mile.... the quarter horse can almost always beat a thoroughbred in a short distance but long distance, which is much more exciting racing, will almost always be won by a thoroughbred. • @shellyfromseattle676
      @shellyfromseattle676 4 года назад +4

      There are four different types of quarter horses, but they are all recorded under the same AQHA registry.
      The four different disciplines are race horses, cutting horses, reining horses, and show horses.
      It’s the most versatile breed in the world.
      Some QH race horses also have a second discipline as Show horses. There have been some cutting horses in the past that have also excelled at short distance sprint races. By infusing TB blood into short, compact QH horses people have had very successful outcrosses which have produced extremely nice barrel horses, rope horses, cow horses, etc. TB horses make real nice riding horses and fairly decent ranch horses, but they will never excel at anything near the versatility of the majority of QH horses. I for one really appreciate the amazing speed and quality genetics the TB horses have bred into the QH programs throughout the world. Three Bars, Hempen, Raise Your Glass, Beduino, Zevi, Driftwood, Texas Dancer, Apollo...
      If you’ve got an awesome QH it’s probably got TB genetics from one or more of these.

    • @jamihede4440
      @jamihede4440 4 года назад +1

      @@shellyfromseattle676 I realize that there are different sub-types of the breed, largely caused by infusion of blood from other breeds. However, I would venture to say that this is not a positive element. If we want to talk about the versatility of the breed, let's look for horses that you can take one look at and say with co confidence that this is a Quarter horse. I look at some horses and assume that they are Thoroughbreds. I once knew a man who was so proud that his ml are was a daughter of Seattle Slew.

      @@sharpdressedbostonsfrenchi452 That's because most of the horses brought to this country by the early Americans were Thoroughbreds. But the Quarter Horse owes just as much, if not more, of its heritage to the Spanish Barbs brought over by the Spanish explorers even earlier. And then there is the contribution from the Mustangs, which traced their blood back to the Spanish horses as well. Almost every "American" breed (Morgans, Tennessee Walkers, etc.) carry some Thorougbred blood, but they all have distinct body types.

      Quarter Horses don't run mile distances but up to 40/ yards a Thoroughbred is nowhere NEARLY as fast. A Thoroughbred runs just over 40 mph while a Quarter Horse runs over 50 mph. Whippets have and can easily outrun Thoroughbred horses but not Quarter Horses.

    Thoroughbreds are faster in the long run but Quarter horses have better indurance in the end. A Quarter horse will keep going long after a thoroughbred gives in.

    • @ImmortalSynn
      @ImmortalSynn 3 года назад +1

      You have it the exact OPPOSITE. Quarter Horses got their name, because they completely crap out after a quarter mile (440yards). Thoroughbreds can easily go near top speed for 1.25miles+. Arabians are slower than both, but can maintain a steady speed for 10x that distance, enough to outpace either.
