Awesome song and great lesson. The Doobie Brothers really had great rhythm guitar. I enjoyed you breaking them down and showing some of the alternate grips. Very insightful. I will be sure to play around with them.
Zane Walker agree that the DB gave us some of the best EVER rhythm guitar parts! They caught my ear several decades ago and still speak to me today - thanks for checking this out and sharing your love of classic tunes! your friend, dale
Thanks for sharing your talent, insight and knowledge Dale. Your lessons are always thorough, complete, well thought out and the "extras" on alternate chord grips etc. are an added bonus. Much appreciated!
Nice to hear from you tonedr, I'm from Milwaukee Wisconsin and the Doobie's are gonna be here tonight at Summerfest, I can't wait, had front row seats for the Doobie's about 2 years ago at the local Casino Theater, got my Pat Simmons photo autographed, I was like a little kid at that concert. And yes I can relate to all your music, I just turned 60 and still rockin' to the 70's. I'm quite sure that Pat Simmons & Tom Johnston have seen your great videos. From Milwaukee to Lexington, my best regards, hope to see you play soon, we're not that far apart. Again thanks, John.
john patrick that's John for the reply i totally enjoyed it! Of all the guitarist that i could meet, currently living, Patrick Simmons is #1. I'd give anything to meet him when i see them this summer but prob won't happen. I'm jealous!
hey Kevin...greatly to hear from you and i'm glad you caught the DB show! I'm seeing them in a few days with Journey - i'll feel like i'm in High School again! Hope all is good sir, your friend, dale.
I recently saw the Doobs again after many years, great show! I am brushing up on some of their songs and watching your great tutorials. (also the Lexington Lab videos)
awesome! been looking how to play this for a while and you nailed it with patience and showing it for lesser players like me can get it, thanks so much sir!!
I can't believe that I let this song lay on the shelve for so long, its got a lot of simple chords and you explain it so well, I learned it it no time at all, now South City Midnight lady is taking some time but thats ok because again, you explain very thoroughly, Your You Tube Lessons are very personable, I feel like I know you, but I don't, Thank you very much for the great lessons, also the Lexington Lab Band Rocks !!!
john patrick hello John...thanks so much for your very kind post and giving your time to check out the vids! It seems like we may have a lot of similar taste in music - i wish you all the best with your music and please let me know if i can ever help in any way! I'm going to see the DB again in just a couple of weeks. It's been decades since i've seen them live and i'm very excited - hope they do our song SCML! keep pickin, dale
Doobie Brothers at first time I like it! Because, is soundtrack of my youth! When bring Sweet Home Alabama, from Linner Skinner tutorial? Thank you! 👍🎧🎸🎼
Thank you for the lesson. I am a newbie to guitar. I am a keyboard player and learning the songs I've played for decades on the keys is like learning a new language. You make the learning process an absolute joy. This summer I am going to be seeing the Doobies with Chicago (I'll be 8 rows from the stage and doing a meet and greet with Chicago). In fact the first song I learned on guitar is Beginnings... that was your lesson. Thank you again for your lessons. They are an inspiration to cause me to keep learning guitar.
thanks so much for taking your time to share the kind post - glad you are catching two timeless bands and sounds like an unforgettable night coming up! Appreciate you sharing music, your friend, dale.
I watched several videos on this and yours might be the most identical to the original. In fact, it's right on. Thanks so much for sharing how it's done.
That’s a pretty good lesson. Thank you very much! There are lots of options to choose from on those chorus chords. I just watched a live version where there are three guitar players. It’s hard to capture what they are doing with just one guitar.
Sounds good!!! As a bass player who plays guitar for fun, my big challenge is not hitting the E string (first string) while playing the second chord (the A chord). So, back to work for me.
One of my favorite songs, by one of my favorite bands. Definitely one of the best guitar bands ever. Should have been in the hall long ago. I never knew the correct barring on the chords. Thanks Dale. Greatly appreciated. Paul...
agree should be in the Rock Hall...SO many great and diverse tunes! Patrick Simmons is one of my all-time fave players and he and Tom are still out there 'rockin' down the highway.'
hey tone dr you jam ....i also love the lab band ......i appreciate what you do .......thank you for sharing your talents......much appreciated , billy c.
DALE!! I must have been living under a rock because I am just now discovering your channel!! I searched for "how to play listen to the music" and your video popped up. I watched half of it before I said to myself, "Wait. I know that guy! That's Dale!". Your playing has always been an inspiration to me. You sound better than ever. Hope you are doing well, man. Rob Harris in Nashville.
Rob Harris wow what a great surprise! I follow you though our mutual friends and wish we could cross paths...i hope you are doing great and you continue to inspire all of us who know you sir! Hope you family is great and thanks for the very kind post - your friend, dale.
At about 8:28 "what I hear in the original recording " I KNEW I heard that but your the only one who didnt ignore that fact. You can see that when played live on Midnight Special . Its important. Thanks again !!!
Well Dale, after watching you and the Lab doing this song with no clear shots of your hands, I finally had to go see how it's done. This one was always evasive to me. Lo and behold, a less on by you! SUPERB and complete with "That" feel! So you used an acoustic on the Lab video. OUCH! Either that Collings has the best action on the planet or you have hands that put Arnold to shame in his best Terminator days. Extra Kudos for you! LOL. It's Always a pleasure to be your student! Thank You!
Doobies are one my favorities too! Tom Johnston riffs and P Simmons to boot- killer! The 'magic' to me is in the subtle and complex strums. So many 'reach' songs for us aspiring players ;-). Can you do a video on The Doctor ?? Thanks!
You truly are amazing. I'm using all of my storage space on my android phone to download many of your tutorials. I only have one request... Will you please upload "You're the only woman" by Ambrosia? I would be ever so grateful... Thanx and keep rockin'!
James Jamz thanks so much for sharing music and checking out the vids! I have two Ambrosia tunes posted but i'll give this one a new listen - great tune and band! your friend, dale
Awesome job as always Dale. I never thought of that first chord as being basically an inversion, using the third in that way. Isnt that a classic Hendrix technique? I'm thinking Wind Cries Mary in particular. Now that you have brought that to my attention it is like turning a ight on. When you are "theory challenged" and musically illiterate as I am these little discoveries are great to run across. Thanks!
hello Jason...sincere thanks for checking this out and i'm glad it may have been of some help sir! All the best with your music and the New Year - your friend, dale.
Hey Tonedr, been watching you and the Lab Band for a long time. Always good stuff. I know you've got to be a busy guy but if you ever get a chance I would really appreciate a lesson/performance for Dark Eyed Cajun Woman.
hello Mark! thanks for the kind post and taking time to check out my channel for quite awhile..very appreciated! I love DECW - i'll be giving git a new listen and hopefully can get something up. Your friend, dale.
Thanks Dale. I know there are a lot of complimentary parts in that song and the bass guitar carries a lot but whatever you can come up,with would be great. Also does LLB do any concerts? I'm not that far away from you (just south of Adairville).
jatwaaka lock into the beat of the tune and try to feel it - i have no idea of how you play but with a pretty good deal of experience with players struggling with rhythm i try to avoid 'patterns' and keep your hand limp and feel the groove.
ive watched tons of these listen to the music vids and all miss the most important part the rhythm nobody ive seen can play it or get so wrapped up in explaining a simple progression that they forget about the rhythm
8:26 I came here for this! You’re the only one who has shown us this cool run down. Thank you
Thanks so much for checking this out..greatly appreciated!
