My family of five is heading to Greece this Christmas. My adult kids are coming from different countries/states. We’re flying Emirates (from Newark), United, KLM, Aegean, and Austrian (via Air Canada). We spending time in Athens and Crete. I have 3 different hotels booked. The entire trip would have cost $20k in cash but we used every last point/mile and credit I had. Our total cost is approximately $2500. It’s not luxury but I’m pretty pumped that I got my entire family to Greece for the holidays without breaking the bank.
Is Santorini (and Mykonos) worth visiting? We are hoping to see Italy and Greece next year and trying to decide if we should visit those islands or others. Love the videos and thanks!
IMO, Mykonos was a party island. Santorini was incredibly worthwhile with sunsets that rivaled those off Ipanema. Athens reminded me of home, NYC, except it has the Acropolis. I heard some of the less popular islands are even better (Paros/Syros)
We have not been to Mykonos, but we loved Santorini! We stayed in Imerovigli & we were shocked by the little crowds that were there. Plus, they get beautiful sunsets too!
How far ahead of time do you typically look for your flights? And do you intentionally try to vacation during the times of year that typically see the least travelers?
It all depends! In the case of this trip, we only booked our flights & accommodations a few months in advance and didn’t have any trouble. For time of year, we typically try to do shoulder seasons of popular destinations but also let the deal of flights & accommodations determine the best dates so that we are maximizing the value of our points. But, I wouldn’t get too hung up on that!
Great video! There is a certain amount of rediculousness to some of these vacations. I, for one, would not want to switch hotels multiple times on a trip just to get them on points. If you do that it just consumes the whole thing and I would be thinking, "Why am I here again?"
Thank you! And that is totally fair. It absolutely depends on your travel style, but we do love when we get to stay in one place for a longer period of time! Although, this is also one reason why we loved booking a cruise with points because we could see a lot of different places, but have our accommodations be the same every night.

I think Bilt is also a 1:1 transfer parter for Hilton now. Maybe not the best earning rate for redemptions at Hilton but I believe a partner now.
Correction: The Emirates flight is from EWR, not JFK

Hotel hopping is for accommodation nerds. I’m not one of them, since I’m never in the room

You really butchered the pronunciation of Aperol Spritz 😅
How many languages do you speak actually?
We were trying to determine how to say the plural of Aperol Spritz 😂🍹
And I only speak 2 languages.
@@DailyDrop Very easy it’s Aperol Spritzige
first
