“Who’s your daddy Montreal?” is one of the greatest heel moments of all time. Years of controversy and hate to build it up then making the fans (me included) thinking that it was about to be paid off with an epic and unexpected return only for the rug to pulled at the last second. It was a masterclass 😂😂
It was OK but overrated. HBK didn't have to work for that heat. They already hated him for something he did for real. He just rubbed it in. Rock in Sacramento/Toronto or Kevin Owens and Elias in Seattle actually had to put in real work and it was far more impressive than Montreal booing HBK because he is a prick in real life

He only had to rub it in, sure, but it's not just about whether the crowd would've hated him anyways. He got them to boo him harder than they ever did before, and *really* laid it on.
He could've just settled it with a quick and simple "Haha, I screwed Bret! _(insert local sports team)_ sucks! I'm gonna beat up Hulk Hogan!" and called it a day, but he didn't and that's what made it great.
@@Jason_Altea But it undeniably was not difficult to do. Anyone in that situation could have got the same reaction by just not doing the bare minimum.
The crowd didn’t riot at that Rumble with Roman, they physically left for the doorways. I was there and once his music hit I’ve literally never seen a mass exodus like that at any wrestling event.

@@alpha068 2017 was the year Braun interfered in his match early, and then he was brought back at number 30. The chants of “thank you Braun” made me look around and say “well he’s the biggest face in the company now.”
That exodus makes Transformers: Fall of Cybertron's mass exodus (the Transformers leaving the destroyed planet) seem tiny.
"Who's Your Daddy, Montreal!" is easily the biggest gatcha moment from the WWE in my opinion. It was also the best thing about Shawn post-return. He could've been a great scumbag heel if he didn't want to remain a face. It was his last, and greatest, heel promo.
The only reason he could have been a good heel is because they hated him for being an asshole in real life. It was not as impressive as other heels who had to use their character to get heat.
The biggest troll moment in my life as a wrestling fan was when Cena was drafted to SD at the 2011 draft only to get drafted back to Raw at the end of the night. 10 year old me was so pissed back then.
Lmao I remember that, Cena was ready to instantly drop all of his loyalty from RAW just to say never mind at the end. Shows how much the brand split really meant.
I remember me and my brother popping hard when John cena moves back to raw tho. We wanted raw to win so much.
The only thing that pissed me off about that was that they abused Rey Mysterio just for a Cena push.

@@alexanderasher3461 They shouldn't have put the belt on Mysterio honestly. It wasn't really Cena's fault.. which is the case about 99% of the time. They messed up both of Mysterio's title runs.

To be fair to him, only a psycho like Vince could pull off the "it was me austin" storyline 😂
I agree. I get why some people hated the Higher Power angle...but it works for Vince. The guy has a track record for torturing his own family members for his own gain, and would've went to any lengths to get to Austin back then, even if it was at his own expense.

Wow, I don’t even remember Razor Ramon or Diesel in WCW. That sounds nutty. Lol WCW, that’s a terrible idea. A couple of outsiders like that would never get over, not even with a third man.
Especially if they had some face turn heel for that imagine them turning hulk hogan heel for THAT of all thing think of all the merch sales they’d lose out off with heel hogan or something

That CM Punk/Jeff Hardy troll was the moment that got me back into wrestling after having been a lapsed fan. Though it did take a little while for it to fully take hold and for me to completely take the plunge (or the Pepsi Plunge, if you wanna get serious about this), the sheer fucking contempt that he managed to draw from the crowd made a big filthy mark out of me once more.

While "Who's Your Daddy, Montreal?" is easily one of the best trolls in history, whenever I see it brought up in videos no one ever seems to mention the fact that HBK was wearing a pink tie with a black suit, effectively wearing Bret's colors, adding that little extra salt to the wound. You may not have noticed it...

I'm glad you didn't refer to what Jericho did as a heel turn. It really pissed me off when people said he turned heel when in fact he RETURNED as a heel and manipulated the crowd from the very start.

RVD is to blame for WWECW failing. Vince gave the keys to Paul and let him run his show and Paul went with RVD. Not a bad choice on paper but RVDs arrest caused Vince to need to take more control. The ECW carnies proved themselves untrustworthy of the position they were put in.

You're telling me that it was out of the realms of possibility that a sociopath on the level of Mr. McMahon would go out of his way to make his family's life hell and make himself look like a victim in order to screw Stone Cold over? The Zombie wasn´t a troll on WWE´s part. The Sci-Fi Channel wanted them to have an Alien Character on TV and the WWE managed to compromise them into it being a Zombie.

HBK returning to RAW in Montreal. I'll admit for about 5 seconds or so into Bret's music playing I really did think he was coming out and the look on Shawn's face was so believeable. It really was a great moment in RAW even if he was a big middle finger to Canada.

The man has beaten WCW, steroid scandals, murder trials, suits from former employees, innumerable controversies, and that’s just the things we have heard about. You think a little infidelity would stop that guy? When he fake-retired, the WWE stocks shot up. Who benefited most from that I wonder? Oh yeah, the guy who owned those pieces. Who is that again? Then he utilized the capitol gained and the time allotted to work on and secure the UFC deal. And now he’s “back”. Never left. You all are marks.

I dunno why people keep blaming the Zombie on Vince, when that was a play right out of the original ECW handbook (see 911 chokeslamming Santa Claus, Doink the Clown, etc.).
I have heard this rumor before not sure how true it is but here we go. During the 90's this part is a fact, Jake Roberts was on and off wwf/es creative team, I do belive the plan was for Jake to be the higher power, but then Jake went about being Jake, may of no showed, drugs, etc, so last second they scrambled for a replacement and ended up on vince.
