Hi Ellen! I'm a soap maker in NH, USA and I LOVE your videos! You're so good at making patters, and you've inspired me to make my own! Id LOVE to try cupcakes sometime, and I'm so excited! Thank you! Madi Maugel 14 yr. old New Hampshire USA
Thank you for sharing your frosting recipe with us, Ellen. Hope you are keeping well and you and your family are safe. Greetings from Pretoria, South Africa
Thank you Ellen for sharing your knowledge with us all. I'm wanting to start my own business, but it can be a bit overwhelming. I love your patience, simple directions and explanation of each ingredient...it's very helpful. Once I've learned a bit more, I hope to bring my dream to fruition. Thanks again!
Ellen, I got your soap a few days ago. They look lovely and perform fabulously! The silk really adds to the feel and slip. My soaps are vegan so I can't use it, but I know now why people do. You have set a standard. 😊
Thank you so much! I'm using Mulberry Top Silk in a few bars now, which is a vegan option for silk.. I'm really liking how it feels, and it's easy to work with too😉
@@annmariegugliemino5009 You're absolutely right! I thought it was like corn silk from the plant 🤪... Wow, thank you for bringing this to my attention.
@@EllenRuthSoap Lol. I too have 4 kids and homeschooled them. My youngest will be 33 this year, so I think I'm a bit older than you 😉 but I admire you so much. I am completely revamping my business and yours is one of those who's look I admire. The moth confusion did not sway me. 😎
These look awesome. Want to try frosting but I'm a little scared. Lol. I just thought of a way not to have excess frosting. I will try it and let you know how it goes.
Thank you for the press and seal tip! My daughter wants to make cupcake soaps for her cousins for Christmas and that is a great piping tip. The farmers market packaging is a great idea too! They look so real. Satsuma Orange is one of my favorite scents too.
While watching you pour the bases, I had a momentary panic: you way over filled them when they bake, they will fall out of the liners! Then I remembered it was soap! That is what I get for baking before watching this video! Lol!
This looks like a great idea as opposed to whipping with a stand mixer(i don't have one) It does look a little on the thin side though for using a star tip. What would you recommend to thicken this recipe a little more, I'm thinking the shea butter could be the reason for the thinner batter. Maybe use cocoa butter instead? Thank you!!
I use sodium lactate at a rate of 1 tsp per lb of oils, and the silk is so light it's hard to measure, it's about a small cotton ball size. The silicone muffin cups are listed bellow.
Hi Ellen. Is the soap calculator accurate. I put the amounts you said for water you said 9 oz. the soap cal. Said 12.16 of water. Which one is correct. Thanks so much I love your videos.
Hi Ellen, I have been wondering, do you just wash the lye active soap down the drain or do you wait until the next day to wash all your dishes? We live on a septic, not sure if you do too, but I’ve been wasting so many paper towels wiping down everything to spare my septic and I’m wondering if there is a better way. Thanks in advance!
I do try to scrape my pitchers out really well, and then I do my dishes... I know several soapers that do the paper towel wipe, and it does take a lot of towels, and those that leave the pitchers until they turn to soap... I'm on septic and haven't had any issues yet (and it's been a good while)...
It really depends on what you're frosting, when I'm doing cupcakes I like to have as much frosting as batter... I recommend getting familiar with a good soap calculator for formulations.
The scent you put in the frosting, can it be used in candles. I am trying to make candles with orange fragrance for the kitchen. Thank you for your help.
Hi! Just wondering about the sodium lactate. Since the tops are not coming out of a mold, do you really need the sodium lactate? Have you noticed a benefit for cupcake tops?
@@EllenRuthSoap That's what I was thinking. My fear of using the sodium lactate with the tops is that it would set up quicker. I'm not sure if that's true but I've had so many issues with my soap setting up too quick before I get it piped. It seems to go from perfect to hard rather quickly. I may be over mixing initially. 😬
@@EllenRuthSoap thank you for replying. Another question does the soap base have to be the same recipe as the soap frosting? Or could they have different oils? If it can be different how would you label it?
ELLEN Good afternoon. I often watch your videos about soap very much. Ellen I am from Russia., Therefore, we do not have such ingredients here, but I do from what we have. I wanted to ask about a recipe for caps, can you write to me. You just do a little different in a cold way, and I wonder how much they need to stand after you pull them out of the molds. Thank you very much in advance.
I’m a baker and you can also buy individual cupcake plastic holders. Love these!
thank you so much for sharing your recipe. You are very generous. I really appreciate that. And your soaps are amazing.
You're welcome 🥰

Hi Ellen Ruth, thank you for shareing your frosting recipe. They are beautiful. Does the frosting need to be a different recipe from the base?
Thank you ☺️ No, it doesn't have to be different. Sometimes I'll save off some of the batter and let it thicken up and use that 😉
Great packaging idea!👍💗
Thanks 😊
U definitely got the hang of the press n seal. My first time using it was frightful lol 😂

These are beautiful Ellen. So many wonderful ideas, including real sugar on top! Thank you for sharing. About how much did they end up weighing?
Thanks, they ended up about 5oz

If you just wait a bit, the batter will thicken
Love your video! Is the frosting soft to touch or is it firm? Also is it possible to make soft frosting?
Thanks! It's very firm after 24 hours.
How much silk and sodium lactate do you add to the lye? Is it 4.7oz of lye and then the addition of silk and sodium lactate added to that? Thank you!
Just a very small pinch of silk fibers, and sodium lactate at a rate of 1 tsp per lb of oils
HOW much of the silk and sodium lactate did you add to the lye? missed that Ellen. :) ALSO u didnt put a link for the recyclable cups

I've never done or used anything like this. Does the frosting seperate from the cup when you use it?
If you frost them as soon as they get a bit firm, it sticks perfectly.
Is there a substitute for rice bran oil in the soap frosting?
If you change any of the oils, you'll need to run the numbers thru soap calc. But you can replace it with any good liquid oil.
Hi Ellen. Is the soap calculator accurate. I put the amounts you said for water you said 9 oz. the soap cal. Said 12.16 of water. Which one is correct. Thanks so much I love your videos.
I do a heavy water discount, you can totally go with the higher water amount, it will be slower moving.

Yes, I think it's candle safe😉 and it smells amazing!
Hi with the added silk what is it? I’ve google and found peptide but wasn’t sure if that’s correct . Thank you for ur video
I'm not understanding what the question is? I use Tussah silk.
Hi does every candle require the lye thanks
Not sure on your question?
@@EllenRuthSoap Hi when making every candle does it need lye in it to come out right
Can you wait until the next day to pipe frosting onto the previously made cupcakes?
I think it would be fine to wait, but I would score or spritz the tops so the frosting will stick...
Thank you!!!
Great video once again. My question is Do you leave the base of the cupcake to harden or do you go go straight to the frosting? thank you
Thanks! I've done both, but prefer to let the bottom just set up and do the frosting so they harden together.
@@EllenRuthSoap thank you
Hi! Just wondering about the sodium lactate. Since the tops are not coming out of a mold, do you really need the sodium lactate? Have you noticed a benefit for cupcake tops?
That's a good question. I don't think it would be super necessary, since you aren't technically unmolding it...

Can you substitute the rice bran oil with something else?
Yes, olive oil is a good sub
How much buttermilk powder was used? Thanks

@@EllenRuthSoap how does the frosting get thick is it a certain kind of soap base or oil?
@@Doodle._.KitKat The soap batter will thicken as it's getting hard, you pipe when it's the thickness of frosting, before it gets too hard.
