This is my favorite type of video that you make. Love the sit-down overviews of houses or individual perfumes. I’ve heard of Caron but I’ve never owned one. Today’s task: Internet search for Caron! Great video!! Thanks for sharing your collection.
Hi Amy-- So nice to find you! I dont own anything non Daltroff in Carons but that and Guerlain are my favorite houses but old ones. I began collecting in the early 2000s so was able to get a couple of the four Caron perfume sets from the 70s in the box They were Tabac Blond, Nocturnes, Bellodgia, and Fleur de Rocaille. The Tabac Blonds would sell for a lot but Im keeping them and using them. The original is a wierd scent but morphs like no other. Bellodgia-- the ultimate carnation- so beautiful. Nocturnes is a 70s scent i believe. Very chic and light. My aunt wore Fleur de Rocaille in the spring. Others I have owned are Pois de Senteur, With Pleasure, and a little sample of En Avion. the originals of N' Aimez Moi, and Narcisse Blanc, and Fleur de Rocaille were all formulated by Daltroff I believe. You sort of hate to get turned on by these scents because they are so hard to find but there it is. They were a very special house, back in the day, but you intrigued me with your love of the modern scents by Caron! I own the Turin book but one i think you'd love is Scent and Subversion by Barbara Herman. She had a perfume blog I believe. Loved this video and look forward to seeing others!
Hi Amy! You introduced me to Eau de Reglisse, and it’s now one of my absolute favorites! Spritzing some on while watching this video! So uplifting and invigorating. 🍋
I adore the house of Caron! Most of what I have from them are vintages, but I'm fascinated by your descriptions of some of their modern perfumes. I must get my nose on them! ❤️ 🌸 ✨
I love the smell of carnation and thats why I adore eternity by CK so much ,it was my signature for years and I recently added it to my collection again I find the more new fragrances I smell the more I want to go back to some of the classics 🤷♀️ You are so knowledgeable,I’m glad I found you in the sea of so many in the fragrance community ❤
Oh my goodness, what a kind post. I love your videos!! And carnation… sigh. Eternity is gorgeous + so groundbreaking (but with that classic floral I love). I think I love carnation partly because my dad wore Old Spice + it was so carnation heavy. Thanks for your kindness + what you do/your intel. ❤️
Hi Amy! You're looking very chic today! I loved learning more about Caron and thank you for inserting your pictures from the store. So beautiful! I think I would Fleur de Rocaille. It sounds like something I would like for Spring! Do you like Houbigant Quelques Fleurs or Quelques Fleurs Royale?
I used to wear Chantilly by Houbigant when I was in middle school (!) in the early 80’s. Amy, I’d love to hear your thoughts about this house if you ever get a chance to try it.
I have never heard of this house so this video is so exciting for me to watch ! I’m heading to Paris next month ,not sure if I will get to visit this shop or not ? The bottles are so interesting!
Oh am I so excited for you, going to Paris, I just went in late March and it was a dream. If you go to the Champs Elysées, Caron is just a couple blocks away and worth seeking out. I would also highly suggest Parle Moi, any Diptyque shop but especially the one on Saint Germaine, Parfums Senteurs du Pays Basque at Place des Voges, Panier des Sens, and believe it or not, pharmacies + Monoprix for inexpensive but wonderful scents by companies like Roger + Gallet, 100bon, and local perfume makers. Guerlain used to be more interactive before Covid but is still worth seeing for the shop alone!
Hi Amy!! You introduced me to Eau de Reglisse, it is now my absolute favorite. My bf loves it on me as well! You look absolutely amazing, that lipstick was made for you!!
Oh my gosh this is thrilling. I’m so glad you enjoy Eau de Reglisse. Isn’t it so elegant + refreshing? Thank you for the kind words about the lipstick. I am doing a 20 day experiment on Instagram where I attempt to find lipsticks in my collection or at a reduced cost that “dupe” Lisa Eldridge colors (I love her line but can’t afford them all). This is “Are You Surreal” by ColourPop in place of her “Je Ne Sais Quoi.” 💛💖
Hi Amy: Love your overview of the Caron scents. The Narcisse Blanc sounds especially wonderful to me. I had Caron's Parfum Sacre years ago and enjoyed it, and I remember my Mom wearing Infini at one time and it smelled wonderful on her. You look great and it's always wonderful to see a video from you. Take care.
I love the new bottles that they came out with a couple of years ago. I have a full bottle of Tabac Exquis. It is the most elegant, sophisticated honey tobacco that I’ve smelt. Edit: Oh, and I love Aimez Moi Comme Je Suis! It’s one of the ones that is marketed toward men, but it is very unisex, really. Very nutty!
glad you did this video, i have been intrigued with caron and have wanted to try more. i've tried 4-5 total and really liked them all. the only one i own is tabac blond, which was the first one i ever tried, and fell in love with quickly. i only went to paris once (in a brief high school exchange thing) and people were rude to me in shops too. it's unfortunate but i guess it's a stereotype too (?) still, i want to go back to paris someday and visit the shop! it looks amazing.
Hi love! Enjoyed reading your post. I hear from friends that things have changed a lot on recent years. I’ve only been going to Paris for 5 years and honestly the French and treated me far better than I deserve based on my French (lol) and this is part of why the Caron shop experience was odd. The shop was fabulous even so… they did not steal my joy, ha!
I just found out this brand today as we are looking for perfumes for my mum we got her the EDP Fleur De Rocaille and now I want a bottle for myself!❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Alot of Carons (new packaging) popped up at the local discounters, some at really cheap prices. I don't know if thats a bad sign for Caron. Any thoughts on the current juices? I wanted to blind buy some but some of my European friends warned me that the juices are watered down and a shadow of what they were. Unfortunately Caron does not deliver to my country so I can't buy samples. I've only tried vintage 90s Narcisse Noir. A beautiful sultry orange blossom that really smelt like it has alot of expensive naturals. I have an 'indie' substitute for Narcisse Noir but I a curious to know how the current version is like. And 2018 Tabac Blond, also very beautiful. Of course there's Yatagan and Pour en Homme. I am very intrigued by Parfum Sacre and its perfume brief. That was the one I wanted to blind buy.
Hi there + thx fir your post. I don’t think this is a good sign for Caron, being at discounters. I also don’t think it is a good sign that I never see them marketing the house. Sad because I adore the perfumes, old + new. I own old versions of Bain, Eau de Reglisse (my fave scent, discontinued), Aimez-Moi, and Fleur de Rocaille, and new formulations of Tabac Exquis + Narcisse Blanc. All gorgeous. I also smelled some other new formulations in the store and thought they were terrific. I know some things get changed and lose their luster when reformulated but I think often new scents just don’t live up to old memories. Just my opinion, it’s such a personal/subjective thing!
Thank you for this video and your vivid descriptions! 🙏🏻🥰 I used to have a mini of Nocturnes by Caron, or maybe it was my moms, anyhow, I don’t have anymore but I remember liking it. Most other Caron perfumes are unknown territory for me. In a shop in Amsterdam I smelled Tabac Blonde which was nice though! When I was in Paris last december I also wanted to visit this shop, but I simply had soooo many places to go to and my husbands patience for my perfume obsession also has its limits 😂 so maybe next time.
Hahaha, loved reading this!! That’s the challenge (and fortune of) Paris… you can never fit it all in. I am making a list of things I want to do during a visit in the spring and it is a lifeline of ideas. Fun to read about Nocturnes here. I tried it in the shop… the newer bottle/formulation and loved it. I have a vintage bottle in my eBay cart to purchase soon. 💛
Hi Lovely Amy! I loved this because, as you mention, Caron isn't exactly on the lips of every perfume person in the community. I think that the only one I really hear people talk about is the one I call "Broccoli Top" - Cabotine. I've sniffed that one, and I LOVE it (although I wouldn't wear it because my husband STRONGLY dislikes that old-school style). It reminds me of Youth Dew and others of that ilk which remind me of my ill-spent youth! For me (honesty time here), because it's always so deeply discounted I never really considered Caron a "house?" More like a brand (and I know that's the same thing, but I think you know what I'm driving at here. The snobbery of it all because it is so inexpensive on the grey market sites!) I love hearing your passion for these in your voice and seeing in your eyes. I appreciate you opening this HOUSE up for me and taking me on a tour. The shop itself is stunning. We North Americans have a lot to learn from the French, je pense, when it comes to the shop aesthetic. They have a lot to learn about customer service, as you said. I've had the same experience in France; I think that's more the norm there, which royally sucks! I'm sorry they treated you like that.
@@savorsalvagescent2300 I rescind my comment. The whole thing. Except for the part about the customer service. That part stays. DUH! *insert the meme where the shrub swallows Homer....
Hi doll! I’m sorry for my delay in reply as I had a really challenging work week. Loved reading this! You are thinking of the house of Gres! And the scent you are describing in Cabotine, Cabochard’s little sister (but yes, I think smells quite vintage compatîtes to today’s sensibilities). I adore both but my dear friend Molly, also a perfume lover, hates it so much (and when she gave me her bottle it was double zip-locked; I cackled!). 💚 🥦
Hi there! If I remember correctly they were used more as the way a person could test the scent of each perfume-by sniffing a powder puff scented with each perfume. Not sure if they were selling actual powders. The store associate wasn’t very helpful.
Hi, Amy! Loving your lipstick! It is mystifying that Caron does not get talked about more. I remember Luca Turin blasting their reformulations some years ago. Perhaps that had an effect on the perfume community’s perception of Caron?
Thank you so much! I am in the midst of a 20 day experiment on Instagram, finding lip shades to “dupe” those in a much more expensive range. This is Colourpop’s Are You Surreal (Lisa Eldridge’s Velvet Carnival is similar). Thanks for your reminder re: Luca Turin. While I honor him as an expert, I read one of his guides + our tastes varied. I Ike what I like! 💛 I bet you are right about his influence.
I do remember their beautiful, colorful bottles. I will seek this one out! I really want to go to Grasse, likely summer 2024, and will visit their flagship. 💛
new subbie ~ I miss the beautiful boutique on Madison Avenue and the powder puffs! I don't think they have a NYC presence and their website is cr@p. The shop in NYC was beyond gorgeous with bottles you could purchase and fill with the perfume urn..Then they closed and moved to Lexington Ave ~ and then they closed. I loved Narcisse Noir and French CanCan.
Thank you for this super interesting (tho sad) post + for subscribing! I hope the brand grows (back) it’s recognition, because it’s history is so important and the scents are incredible!! Must try French Can Can. 💃!
What good taste. i love Caron, Fleur de Rocaille is my perfume. I'm Brazilian and sometimes I've received bad service at Caron when I go to Paris, but this last time I think I discovered the secret, I just went in and said louder, a 100ml Tabaccc please, then I was well served!!! . you are amazing.
I've just ordered a sample set, I've been wanting to try their perfume for ages. I also think they need to modernise re distribution. There's nowhere in London that sells Caron perfumes- not even in Harrods- which is pretty shocking considering their history as a perfume house. But maybe they want ro keep everthing exclusive in Paris?
Hi friend + thanks for this post! Totally relate. But I wonder if their “exclusivity” is by accident… they seem to need help. I love their perfumes + it seems they need better strategy/branding.
I think Royal Bain was created as a bath scent for William Randolph Hearst in 1923 but released to the public more than a decade later. I have ten Caron scents and consider it highly underrated by Americans
Thank you so much for sharing your intel! Wow, for Mr. Hearst…. Just looked this up. Incredible! “Made to perfume his bath instead of champagne.” Of course, I remember the Patty Hearst trial from my childhood… so wild. Love to learn and also to read that the house is still beloved.
P.S- have you tried the new perfume "missing person?" To me it smells like the skin of my 1st boyfriend. It's kind of molecular. It's supposed to smell like the scent of a person you miss.
I am sorry to report… must admit that I very much dislike this scent (this is rare for me). A friend bought it and I got to try it and I swear it smells exactly like my parents’ bridge parties from the 70s (I get a lot of hair spray).
I’m mildly shocked that you dont have the 2 classic Carons tabac blond and Narcisse noir, Tabac blond in particular because it is a carnation-heavy scent. The rose cucumber one sounds intriguing. I do own a cucumber scent from laromatica (you tipped me on to that brand at the start of my perfume ‘escapade’-hah I refuse to use the over-hyped word journey). But this Caron one sounds more interesting.
I know! In my defense I tried and enjoyed them both but it was an incredibly hot (80s) spring day and I was literally sweaty under my cashmere sweater and I think I just… need to try again!! Cackled at escapade vs. journey! How about shenanigans?? ❤️
I was an exchange student in Paris in college & being treated poorly in shops is totally the norm, also in the post offices. I was openly insulted many times for no reason lol. I'm not saying it's ok, I'm only saying it so you know it wasn't about you, it's the treatment most will get unless you're a rich native of France. I hated it & I could speak French & I'll never forget the looks of shock when I'd respond to their insults in French.
RuthAnne, so good to see you! Thanks for your post. Though I don’t doubt this is true, I have had mostly really terrific experiences in Paris. I think this is part of what surprised me about Caron. Some people came in just after me who were not from France but dripping with money and I was dropped like a hot potato (then scolded when I sprayed one of the bottles to test it)!! My experience in the other perfume shops (especially Parle Moi, Diptyque, Panier des Sens) was so special, and this I had dreamt about was not. The good news is I still loved what I saw inside + they did not take my joy, ha!
Hello bestie ❤️ What a great video and much needed. I agree that nobody talks about Caron but then again, I think it's a weird company. I did go to the boutique in New York City as soon as you walk in. You're overwhelmed by the smell of talc powder. I got a compact powder instead of a perfume because of it lol. I do have one full size perfume bottle but I don't care for it. The scent so much bubble gum while florals 😬
@@mrspress8057 I can’t believe it because I love carnation + vintage scents but Tabac Blond (tho gorgeous) might even smell too vintage for me. Then again it was super hot the last time I was in Paris and I had overdressed, so I wasn’t in the right frame of mind. I’ll see if I can grab a sample for you this spring!
Hello there! I've not owned any Caron scents but by far my favorite scent of my husband's is Yatagan by Caron. Yatagan is such a unique & super manly scent
Hi doll! I have considered buying some of the male-marketed scents because, among other reasons, they sometimes seem easier to find. Thanks for this post!

Hello bestie ❤️
What a great video and much needed.
Hi doll!! I love powdery smells so I would have been good with this! Thanks for your post + hope you have a good week.
I’ve never had a Caron, but have considered blind buying Tabac Blond Parfum several times, but I really do try not to blind buy these days.
I would not blind buy that one. It is a VERY vintage-smelling fragrance. Very much not to modern tastes. I would definitely sample first.
@@CraftySheryl I like vintage fragrances (not all of them), but the parfum is not easy to find and is on the pricy side.
@@mrspress8057 NoseParis sells samples for a reasonable price!
@@savorsalvagescent2300 weather can make a huge difference in a scent, so I could certainly see that. That would be awesome!
Hello there! I've not owned any Caron scents but by far my favorite scent of my husband's is Yatagan by Caron. Yatagan is such a unique & super manly scent
I've lately seen a lot of videos on this scent, and I'm interested.
@@petraroos3413 oh it's so very good, outdoorsy Uber masculine lasts all day. I can't get enough of it when he wears it
Hi doll! I have considered buying some of the male-marketed scents because, among other reasons, they sometimes seem easier to find. Thanks for this post!

Thank you!
