Movie Legends - Charlotte Greenwood

Frances Charlotte Greenwood was an American actress and dancer. Born in Philadelphia, Greenwood started in vaudeville, and starred on Broadway, movies and radio. Standing around six feet tall, she was best known for her long legs and high kicks.

She was one of my favorites. I recall her high kicks originated when her long gown got in the way and she high-kicked it out of her way. The audiences loved it. It became an integral part of her act.

She was adorable even as she aged. She didn’t do fancy and her routines were predictable because they were all the same. If you were 7 feet tall she could plant her right heel in your chin! She had to do those high kicks multiple times because the first one has you going “wait, did I just really see that?!?”😎
