A tip from someone who went to school for esthetics! Im not sure how much you know for all I know you already know all this, but I went into it thinking it was all going to be all just hands on learning, getting right into doing nails, waxing, facials, massage, etc, but there’s stuff that doesn’t get talked about like you also learn in a sit down classroom just like school and have to learn microbiology, anatomy, etc. And there are still tests and exam’s just like school and this is all stuff that I had no clue about and was not prepared for so just letting you know if you do decide to go!!
Don’t let that scare you away though it was also a very fun part of my life and at the school I went to we got to practice on eachother, going to school and getting a facial, massage and a full set of nails was definitely a good perk
Esthetician of 10+ years, here. I went to esthetics school right around your age and it was the best decision I ever made. School isn’t the easiest, but things like anatomy and chemistry are so much mentally easier to tackle when you know it’s for a healthy purpose with people’s skin and body. It’s a hustle industry, and you seem so sweet and sincere, great at connecting with people. Helping people be comfortable and confident in the skin they’re in is very rewarding! It’s also an industry with various opportunists to go into, whether is conventional esthetics, medical esthetics, plastics, makeup artistry for wedding companies, etc. If you ever have any questions about the perks and hardships, I am always an open book for young estheticians or anyone interested in the industry. You probably have SO many connections, but please do not hesitate to ask if you’re ever wondering specific things. Wishing you all the time of peace while you’re figuring things out! Don’t rush a decision- you’ve got this, girl! ❤️❤️

I did 4 summers working in National Parks and 2 winters in ski resorts when I was younger and it was a lot like getting a college experience- you live in dorms together, work and play together and meet people from all over the world. I started as a busser and quickly became a server, then a bartender, but you could also work in the gift shop, or at the front desk, etc. There were outdoorsy people of course but also a lot of people that weren’t and were just there to make money (you save a lot with the cheap room and board) and have fun. You could work on a cruise ship too! I highly recommend it!!!! I’m still friends with people I worked with 17 years later and have amazing memories. ✌🏻
Your plan to take a year to yourself is so , so smart! I felt rushed to go to college and get a degree and didn’t feel like I had the opportunity to think about what I wanted to do next. I’m now 26 with an English degree that I don’t use. Waste of money and time! Im incredibly privileged to have been able to go to school and receive and education, but it wasn’t what I needed to be where I am now. Good for you. Good luck with everything :)

Your take on college is actually really smart. I personally dropped out of university in my third year cuz my mental health got pretty bad. I was always really glad that I’m not an US-citizen cuz I always imagined in how much debt I’d be by now without even having an degree. I’m now in school to become a kindergarten teacher and it’s so much more fun! Wish you the best for your future!

In the UK people do "gap years" after finishing school at 18. We use this time to travel and fuck about before moving onto the next step of life. You should highly consider travelling for longer periods (not just holidays)

I'm from Finland and here if you end up getting into college, it's FREE. I mean, yes there are some school fees you do need to pay but overall it's free. Which is great! And you can apply for student financial aid from the government agency (SII = The Social Insurance Institution). Most students get the student financial aid and also an aid for living (like for paying your rent etc.) But many do still end up getting a loan.
Agree, I'm a mom of one son, and since high school or uni i looooove to window shopping by my self, watch a movie in cinema alone, eating at restaurant alone.. it was like a dating but with myself back then,,and now when i become a mother,, it's the best 'me time' i had
I remember when I graduated from high school. I bought a bag of fun size Milky Ways and a bunch of soda because before I wasn't allowed to. Let's just say I got kind of sick to my stomach but I don't regret it at all.
Good for you, love has to come natural, if somebody rushes it or tries to fake it for different motives you'll always end up in painful chaos. And not going to college has its down and upsides, but we live in a world where degrees, in some industries, have become nothing more than sidenotes that say nothing about the actual qualification of a person. At least that's my experience with college graduates working for us. We have more luck, productivity and creativity with people who already did what's required of them professionally as a passionate hobby.
Obviously I don’t know you personally but I think staying single is good because you don’t have to feel pressured to text them, hang out and make plans especially right out of high school, taking time to focus on yourself and your future is smart! Also you will be meeting new people outside of school so it’s good to stay open
