  • LIVE COVERAGE: Johnny Depp v Amber Heard Defamation Trial
Actor Johnny Depp is suing ex-wife Amber Heard for $50 million for defamation in connection with Heard’s 2018 Washington Post op-ed, in which she spoke out about being the victim of domestic violence. Heard’s article did not specifically name Depp as her alleged abuser, but according to Depp’s lawsuit, it relied “on the central premise that Ms. Heard was a domestic abuse victim and that Mr. Depp perpetrated domestic violence against her.” Amber Heard is counter-suing Depp for $100 million.
The defamation trial began Monday in Fairfax County Circuit Court in Virginia, with jury selection completing on the same day. There is a possibility of celebrity witnesses testifying, including James Franco and Elon Musk. Tune in to the Law&Crime Network for daily coverage of this high-profile trial.

This is the first time I've devoted my life in a celebrities' trial like this. I've been sitting in my bedroom for 7 hours every night watching every single video. Now that it's coming to an end, I'm feeling empty like I don't know what to do any more 🤣😔. During the past 6 weeks I've learned so much about law but most importantly I got emotionally involved in two celebrities that I never really cared about. It's astonishing how dark their lives can be behind their public presence. Overall it was such an exhausting and emotional event but at the same time it's so memorable to me.

Johnny Depp had a great career, almost no one has had anything bad to say about the man during that career. If I were to speculate, I would say he became the victim of addiction and that was tragic. As far as his relationship with Heard, I think that she was the wrong person for him to get involved with and he should have gotten out of that relationship much sooner as he clearly became unhappy and so did she. Having watched over 40 hours of this trial, I do not believe he was physically abusive to her. Later on he did write some strong words to and/or about her and I think he would take those back if he could, unfortunately these days they stay with us for ever.
Hopefully, many people will view this trial as a trial of their own lives. Take a good look at where you are, who you're with and be honest to yourself. Get out if you're unhappy, relationship are not always meant to be and many cannot be fixed. Protect yourself financially going into them and be a kind person when getting out. The hate and vitriol that people turn too to is unnecessary.
I am still best friends with my ex-wife 10 years later and still admire her for what she taught me and how we learned from our relationship.

    • @aliceinnude
      @aliceinnude Год назад +1

I would disagree. Her team has had a giant PR campaign going throughout this case. Likely because they knew that they were going into this with low chances. Johnny had previously lost the UK trial. Amber's team petitioned to have it not televised but Johnny's team did not. I believe they wanted it televised because they knew the jury is non-sequestered and therefore would have a chance of seeing/hearing some of their negative PR campaign. It's nearly impossible to avoid unless you're living under a rock.
This has just shown me that Johnny is so abusive that he opened this case about her just to try and destroy her character. He said it in 2013 when he sent those messages to Bettany that he says is just a Monty Python reference. Well that's going over the head of anyone who hasn't watched the Holy Grail clearly. That part was about a mob trying to burn a woman who is clearly not a witch. They dressed a pretty woman up as a witch. They weighed her on unbalanced scales. The witch part is riddled with hidden meanings that I'm surprised Johnny would want connected to Amber. But I'm guessing he's banking on people not having watched it. Plus, what he said isn't even a direct line from the movie, it just takes the trope of burning a witch.

He had one week to give her 3 penthouses, a Range Rover, 50K/month in spousal support even though she didn’t legally qualify for any, and 125,000 plus all legal fees. If he didn’t comply, her lawyer stated that she would reveal that he was an abuser publicly.

I couldn’t love someone that behaved that way. But while they treated me in such a cruel way and think violence was normal, they would say they loved me and always wanted to be around me. They have no boundaries. They still try to call me. Whereas I don’t speak of them. I don’t speak of their name like I know them. Because they have no boundaries like Amber heard they will always think they are entitled to say my name or think they have some kind of relationship with me even though I have ignored them for years. Even more disturbing is that whilst these tapes are being played, Amber just sits emotionless and scribbles away. No sign of remorse or regret. This woman absolutely refuses to own any accountability for her actions and has no redeeming qualities IMO.

If the trial brought to light many important facts about Johnny Depp and his life that the public did not know or that medias lied for years, even before the 2016 events, it has also been a great spotlight for professional lawyers who are honourable.
And Camille Vasquez has proven how much she is an incredible lawyer.
From the start of the trial, she caught the attention of others with her excellent introduction presentation, but it was with her confrontation and interrogation toward Amber Heard that she wowed the audience.
How Camille dealt with each of Amber's lies resonated with the audience and the world because she spoke for them. She spoke for all the people who saw how AH was a liar and someone who constantly denied all the horrors she did on Johnny and others.
    She was amazing.
    A true champion for justice.
And she showed it again in her amazing conclusion speech. She was concise, detailed and clear over the important facts to remember for this case.
And knowing that Camille has become famous worldwide thanks to her work is wonderful.
She has brought a great spotlight for all aspiring lawyers.
She has shown what a professional lawyer does. And her work is a role model for millions of people worldwide.
With Ben Chew, his speech as well was amazing. And even moving. You can tell that this trial affected not only Johnny and his family, but also everyone who interacted around him.
Including his fans, who have had to deal with attacks and insults because they love Johnny. I have heard stories of people who were bullied in public or online because they showed their love for Johnny. I even heard of schools and of teachers who reprimanded or villified students who spoke fondly of Johnny. And I would not be surprised that these type of Anti-Depp incidents evolved in school lessons or classes that revolved around Johnny's situation; where if some teachers brought a respectful approach to the subject, others brought their misandry and viciousness toward Johnny, branding him under horrible names and terms that the students who adore Johnny know that they cannot fight back or protest because they can face repercussions from these teachers.
And when you realize how much certain MSM lied about what was revealed in Court, or invented situations that never happened, or refused to present anything about this case, except a biased and mean-spirited report about Johnny's trial and his victory, that is when you realize how the intent to demonize him was always there.
So that lawsuit was necessary to be made. For Johnny's name and for the sake of everyone who loves him, who worked with him, and who interacted with him and Amber and saw who Amber really was and how she was disgusting toward Johnny.
It helped bring the truth to light, it helped brought the facts to light, it exposed a liar, a fraud, and a vicious human being, and it sent a message to MSM that celebrities can fight back against lies told about them. It will make medias realize that writing lies to make a living is unnacceptable and that such practices need to be stopped once and for all.
For the sake of the public who want the true facts and for the sake of the people (celebs or non-celebs) that are portrayed in these medias and want accurate reportings.
As for the two lawyers who represented AH, their closing arguments were the epitomes of word salads. Both of them played with the time of the Court and of this case. With Rottenborn, his statements were manipulative and dishonest. Pure gaslighting to try to doubt the jury and imply that if they don't stand with Amber, they are spitting on the name of all DV survivors. Which was very insulting as they never confronted the nastiness of AH toward anybody. That it went on for almost two hours was tiresome, but even more angering was their attempts to mischaracterize statements that were told in Court or in multiple documents; or to even add in stuff that was never brought up in Court. People online instantly noticed it and denounced them as deceptive lawyers. It was great to see Camille expose many of these stooges' lies and rubbish.
And remember, if you notice how one or some lawyers are deceptive and unreliable in presenting a case's facts and people's statements, then you can reject or disregard anything that these lawyers mentioned. And what Amber's lawyers presented in their closing arguments was disgusting.
A pure example of unprofessionalism that disgusted everyone.
And their behavior is why they did not get the sympathy of the public; either online or offline.

One thing I noticed throughout the trial - JDs lawyers and witnesses all reflected him. They were calm, mellow, cool-headed, and presented well. While AHs lawyers and witnesses reflected her. They were unbelievable, harsh, full of themselves, and mean. It was interesting how JDs lawyers were respectful to AH and her witnesses, but AHs lawyers were harsh with JDs witnesses. Rottenborn needs to learn there is more to working a case than "gotcha" moments. It seemed like that was all he lived for. And Bredehoft needs to learn how to ask questions that don't begin with "What if any." I'm glad this is finally coming to an end. If I was on the jury I would find for JD and not for AH. I would award JD the difference between $7 million and what AH actually DONATED to charity. She has said over and over under oath that she didn't want the money. She said it over and over in the press and on TV shows. That would be justice. An end to it. They are now even so to speak. From all indications, monetary damages are not the real issue. So, Johnny Depp has already won the case, regardless of the verdict. Johnny told his story and the general public is overwhelming supportive of his side of the story, which translates into rehabilitating his image and going on with his life. By contrast, the vast part of the general public view Amber as a Monster and the Poster Child for Sociopath. That's the bottom line, regardless of the verdict by the jury.

I have never seen a better team of lawyers fighting for the truth than Mr. Johnny Depp’s team! They were truly incredible and certainly made the truth and Amber’s lies rise to the surface, exposing the hurt and manipulation that this man endured. My heart truly broke having to see the pain in his eyes while recounting the nightmare of being her husband, but I am so happy that after the verdict, no matter what, he can put this (and the true monster) behind him.

    • @gorgondrifter458
      @gorgondrifter458 Год назад +7

They don't. Please look up confirmation bias. You are perceiving one side to be angry and another not to be because of confirmation bias. Anyone who is truly interested in looking for truth, first starts with their own biases and keeps their mind open to either answer. If you have already made up your mind and 'confirm' all events and evidence to proving that, then you were never really interested in the truth.

@@worddoebro I do disagree. I haven't perceived either team to be particularly aggressive. They have acted exactly how I expect lawyers to act, analytical, methodical, argumentative and deliberate. That's their job but I understand that everyone can perceive things differently and may not see it the way that I do.
It would be interesting to do a linguistic analysis of the lawyers to compare their language choices and test the hypothesis that one team is using more 'aggressive' language.
Best lesson I ever learned, education wise, was to try to disprove yourself not to try to prove yourself because then you will more vigorously test your hypothesis and challenge your ideas than if you try to prove something.
That one piece of advice from a lecturer got me some good grades in linguistics.
