Maybe it's the fact there aren't as many of these early '60's Ponchos out there that draws me to them so much - a bit of exclusivity if you will. Lou this Grand Prix is an amazing sample; beauty and power and rare. Love it. Thanks man.

Great job, Lou! First year of the Gran Prix! Brought back memories of my high school buddy and I, ripping and roaring around Morrow, Ohio back in the "good old days!" Thanks for posting! --Jim
In 1973 I purchased a 1962 Pontiac Catalina wide-track ragtop in near new condition. Blue with a white top. 29k miles! Top and boot like new. Back then, as a kid, I'd deliver car parts and this gem was sitting outside a garage for a couple months. I asked garage guy 'what's up w/ the ragtop?' The owners were on a trip from Tennessee to Ontario Canada and the front left spindle went toast and they couldn't wait around for the repair, so they jumped on a plane and the car stayed. I got the dream car for $125!! No wait, it gets better! A year later, me and me gal were out for a convertible cruise tour in my shiny dream car along with her family's sizable shepherd dog. We arrived at dark to her place, with the top up by then, and I went in for a couple coffees. We said our goodbyes and I walked to the 389 3speed bomb, opened the door and the dog jumped out of the car!...oh yeah forgot about him...I jumped in, turned on the interior lights and I was in the Twilight Zone!!! The dog had shredded everything in the car!!! W.T.F.!!!!!!!!!!! dash was gone, doorpanels, armrests, seats, front and back, knobs off or chewed, the steering wheel in some places was gnawed to the metal...he even ripped the fucking rearview mirror off!!! FFS!!!!!!!!. This car was all original and all in such good shape. Of course I wanted to choke the dog to death but, hey, it's a dumb dawg, no clue of the damage he did...something like DUMPTY TRUMPTY. So I sold it a wee while after that...yes that year was a great style...and such a beauty it was...damn.
Hi RayJ-HT, Glad you like this one :-) This is an early video (2013 & 2014) and I was not thinking of starting them. I've learned from that and start all of them I can, even an Indy car, check it out, enjoy, Lou ruclips.net/video/OS_LwkafYN0/видео.html
For a medium priced full sized car the Pontiac Grand Prix had modest exterior dimensions. It rode on a 120" wheelbase and was 210" long. A Starchief and Bonneville rode on a 123" wheelbase and was 217" long. Also the Grand Prix base price was about $100 above a Bonneville, however if you ordered the optional $250.00 bucket seats and console on the Bonneville it was priced higher than a comparably equipped Grand Prix. The buckets and console were standard on the Grand Prix.
I'm not sure but I think '62 may have been the first year for Grand Prix. This car is about as fine an example of the great automobiles America built back in the 1960s...What a beauty. Excellent video.
DougCameraman Hi DougCameraman,I agree the 1960's had some great designs. Thank you Doug for kind words on the video. If you have time, type in on RUclips.com "My Car Story with Lou Costabile" and I'm hoping you'll see other cars you'll enjoy. Take care, Lou
Was this the first year of the Grand Prix? What an absolutely beautiful car, with such intricate details. And Lou,thank you for pointing out all those intricate details, this video was amazing.
Love the short front fenders The Grill excellent the nose of the Grill excellent and the rear love the tail lights my next door neighbor his name was Mike he kept at Corpus teen and the wheels with the hubcaps that you have there is what he had Excellent Car interior steering wheel just a beauty
Enjoyable video of a truly elegant classic , this example appears so subtle with it's dusty color. 62 Pontiac half-moon taillights are their absolute highlight !!
Looks like it was about 6 years ago when you film this flu but I have to tell you the 62 Pontiac Grand Prix and I think they made the Catalina also what a beautiful car next door neighbor had a 62 Catalina I think it was it a baby blue color and I love that car and when I was a kid that's what I wanted also and I'm glad you picked this one out another Grapevine low sorry it was 6 years ago I wish it was very recent to see what it looks like now I wonder if the guy still has it
Be aware that Pontiac sold a LOT of full-sized cars with 4-speeds in this era. My Dad had two, a '63 Grand Prix and a '64 Tri-Power Bonneville convertible.
Lou, you have a beautiful car there. I have one as well - but mine is Belmar Red with the Cameo White roof and the white interior. My dash is Belmar Red, but current dash pad, which is cracked, is the Burgundy color. Wondered if you might know if the dash pad is suppose to match the dash paint or if this mix is the norm? Just sent the dash pad out to Just Dashes for restoration, but am uncertain which color to have them do it in. Any help would be appreciated.
Hi Quidamkid , Happy to read you have one too :-) This is not my car, as I did the video, and unfortunately don't have an idea on where to find the dash pad. Hope you see many more cars on this RUclips Channel you'll enjoy, Lou

I just saw this Grand Prix first generation on classic web brochures back then on the web. Late 70s' models followed pattern of rewind lights located at back bumper.
The early AC cars also had a generator. I'd have to get in my literature for the exact date, but it runs in my mind that around March is when they went to the alternator on AC cars.
I remember seeing a 62' Buick on RUclips with them. Whether they were installed after the fact or they came on the car, I don't know. The car looked stock, but being a G.M. car, it was probably not to hard to interchange parts. Actually, you've got me curious now. I'm going to try to find that Buick.
Okay, it had chrome wire rims with no visible lugs. Maybe it was an optical illusion on my part. They had Buick emblems in the middle. It was a red Electra 225. It's on You Tube.
My dad ordered one of the first Grand Prix when it came out in 1962 in Madison WI, it had the rare 421. He later traded it in for a new Olds F-85, a car he hated.

hi StvMcQueen1, Thank you for the kind words :-) Glad this one brought back good times :-) Lou
There's hardly a car from that era that DOESN'T bring back some sort of memory! And I owned more than a few of them. Thanks again, Lou.
This car is drop dead gorgeous. The era of the great Pontiacs.
Hi Dans Music, Glad you enjoy the looks of this one :-) Lou
Thanks Lou. You do many amazing cars. Thanks for keeping the memories alive.
My pleasure, and thank you for the kind words. It's appreciated :-)
My first car was a 1966 Grand Prix. What a hot car. With a 389 4 barrel carburetor. With the A/C the gas gauge moved faster than the speedometer.

I think some of the best looking GM cars came out in 62'. The Buick this year was a beautiful car also. It was also available with the 8 lug wheels.

all it needs is a SD 421!

good luck, they were never sold in Canada, only in the U.S.

Hi Austin Lucas, Ouch! Glad Grandpa came out ok, Lou
The Canadian made Parisienne, Catalina and laurentians were produced with Chev chassis and were much more prevalent up here in 1962.
Hi JEFF ANGEL 16, Thank you for viewing and sharing your knowledge, Lou
the Catalina was not available in Canada until 1971.
I NEED to know where you got that fan shroud!!!!!!!!!
Not sure.
The vacuum gauge was NOT a possibility for a 62. It is not in the accessory lists. Only the tach and it was standard in the GP.
Hi Darrell Wheeler, Thank you for viewing and sharing your knowledge, Lou
I’ve never seen rear tail lights 🎉👍
Thanks for sharing.
What is the color name? It's so nice!!
Not sure. Hoping a Viewer with knowledge can share.
Sharp car and nice color scheme. It’s a shame the ride height is way too high, really takes away from the looks. One of the selling points of all early GP’s was that they sat 1/2” lower than regular pontiacs
Hi John Hall, Glad you think this one is sharp :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing your thoughts, Lou
STELLAR !
:-)
nice car tack looks out of place tri prw looks wrong small air cleaners were not avalable took large cleaner nice 8 lugs 389 is ok 421 much better ho exhaust tri pwr looks cool but 4 barrel is just as good and more economical i always wanted one black
421 was only available in SD cars in 62. They did make a dozen or so GP SD cars, but super rare.
That's exactly where the tach is in my 62 Grand Prix
