Comparing eras is meaningless. Football isn't static and the game has changed a lot over the years: tactics, atmosphere, equipment, pitches, rules. Comparisons just arent like for like. Messi is / was and always will have been an amazing dribbler in any era... but his dribbling stats wouldn't match what they are now if he had played in older eras because players would have been allowed to make tackles on him that would now be considered fouls. Many red card fouls now were legal tackles not very long ago (even during Zidane's career for example). In the 1966 world cup say, it is entirely likely he would have had his leg broken like Pele did. Similarly with goal stats: Comparing 'champions league' (The European Cup as it was then called) goals from the 60s with the 2000s shows nothing because it doesn't take into account how football has changed: back then the goals per game ratio was higher so of course the top strikers would expect to score more. Conversely, attacking players from the 80s and 90s will look worse in those kinds of stats (which is reflected by their absence from the chart) because that was an all-time low scoring period for football in terms of goals per game, with 0, 1 or 2 goal games far more frequent than now. All of this mkes that Cruyff stat look even more insane actually. I've never seen him play a full match but nothing can convince me he wasn't a top 5 of all time player, ranked only wih Messi, Maradonna and maybe Pele. From everything i've ever learned about him he almost changed the perception of what a great player is.
Ronaldo never had electrifying dribbling he never really did anything with his dribbles other than to stand still and show off with fast step overs. All of his goals is basically, get the ball, and take 1 touch inside and shoot. He was very good at that though.
16:34 this happened recently in the brazil second division and neymar replied to it with: “Next game this ref will be there, You do it again and look at him 😂“
I think it's important to note that, while they're probably relatively indicative of their overall peak ability, the stats for Zidane, Pele, Maradona, and Ronaldinho are from dominant respective world cup performances(whoscored only started tracking stats in 2008), so it's a bit unfair to compare them to the rest of the players on the chart who are having their whole careers analyzed. If anything it put's into perspective how absurd Messi is and how underappreciated Neymar is
Hi mate, I have watched a few of your videos when you started with football a few years back, it's great to see you've come so far. Now to address some of the things from this video. The original video is one I haven't seen before now, makes me wonder if I've been slacking on the Messi youtube videos. First, the video itself refers to a concept that those in the know refer to as "top-right" Messi, referring to how frequently he ends up at the top right of attacking stat graphs. Next, regarding the opinions of Neymar's career and appearing in this video, there are several parts to it that will take too long to explain in detail, but in summary, this video doesn't seem to do a good job of expressing the full parameters being used in the graphs, for example, is there a min. number of games for the players included? What competition does it include, and a few such things. But best I can figure from this is that each player's best season is used? Maybe, but it probably is one season, And for Neymar, a player of his caliber is capable of producing Messi-level performance for at least one season right? His 17/18 season I believe, was absolutely this, though he only did it for a little over half the season before getting injured, so it's likely the reason he's appearing with Messi in this graph. But Messi and Ronaldo have been able to do their thing consistently for 10+ years at their very very best, this is where the sentiment with Neymar comes about, especially since he happened to be in the same era as them. The Zidane, Maradona, Ronaldinho and Cryuff should not even be on this graph for a few reasons, one is the sample size issue. They use data from 6 - 7 games, and in Ronaldinho's case, 3 - 4 games, over a full season of values. Then there is the data source, fbref is one, I can't remember if they use Opta, but if they don't then , Opta is another football data metric company, plus the video creator mentions, stats being manually counted for Maradona, Cryuff and the others. All of these data cannot be allowed to mix into any kind of graph that should be considered accurate. It ends up leading to the result of thinking Ronaldinho was a passing Maestro. While some of the graphs are questionable, the point the video creator is trying to make does come across clearly. As good as Messi is, regular stats just don't do him justice, which is why he seems to have a disproportionate amount of higher rating compared to others, and ends up a lot on the top right when advanced metrics are brought into play.
Neymar DID perform as an all time great. He just had the bad luck of being in Messi's era. But now Vinicius JR is nominated for the Ballon D'ore and no one can tell me he's even close to Neymar as a player
@@qwerasdfhjkio basically, there are multiple times in this video where Messi's whole career was compared to someone's best ever season. Or, Messi's whole career was compared to someone's whole career when that person's career was much shorter. So, a 66% success for example is much more impressive if it's sustained over a period of 20 years instead of just one. In the passes/carries graph, it's even more egregious. Messi's (and other players') entire career was compared to some player's best ever tournament. Which, in some cases is literally comparing Messi maintaining a high success percentage (in regard to dribbling, passes, scoring etc etc) in like... more than A THOUSAND games to someone who got a similar or even better success rate in those stats in 7 or 14 games. This btw is not a way to diminish those 7 or 14 games. Or those players' amazing performances. It's just that statistics are a little more complicated than that. If you use different parameters to compare things, then the end result really doesn't tell you anything, or ends up giving you a skewed perspective. Put it this way. If you and your mate are in a shooting competition and you shoot 10 times and get 5 goals. And then you shoot 90 more times and score 10 more goals (maybe it was beginner's luck, maybe you just momentarily hit the best shooting form of your life and then lost it lmao, idk). Your mate shoots 100 times and gets 50 goals. If you compare them fairly, you see that you have a 15% success rate while your friend has a 50% one. Some of the comparisons in this video are kinda like if someone took into consideration just your first 10 attempts (where you have the best ratio you ever had during the competition) and compared them to your mate's total attempts (10 shots, 5 goals and 100 shots 50 goals - 50% success rate) Using those variables makes it look like the both of you have the same success rate when the whole picture tells you something very different The comparison isn't fair because the whole basis of it is skewed. The variables taken in consideration aren't standardized, basically. A fairer comparison if you don't want to take into consideration the whole of the data for both partecipants, is to chose the same sample size. So, for example, your first 10 shots and your mate's first 10 shots, or the 10 shots in which you have the best ratio (your peak) against your mate's peak. Well. I ended up rambling😂 sorry for making you such a poor shooter in my example btw, hope I at least made some sense haha
The ones for the older players are always going to be lower. Like, for Zidane they used his 1998 Wolrd Cup win, playing against the best defenders in the world, whereas Messi and Neymar's stats include league games against relegation teams. On the flipside, Messi and Ronaldo stats include their later seasons when they're past their best - but they are being compared with players at their absolute peak. So it's not really a fair way to compare.
btw, Neymar wasn't booked for the rainbow flick. it's a narrative started by clickbait networks that incite stupid people to perpetuate out of outrage, and this video creator was obviously one of them. unfortunately it worked very effortlessly on you too Luke.
Messi is like a weird mix of both Jordan and LeBron, its actually crazy. He has the moments of absolute brilliance like MJ, where you just watch him do stuff that you can't even imagine anyone else doing. Then you look into the stats and realize he's the absolute fucking best like LeBron even in that.. if you take just his goals he's arguably the greatest goalscorer EVER (Ronaldo's scored more but he's also played more games) which would make him top 5 players ever by itself. If you take away his goals and just look at his assists you'd be shocked to see he's literally the player with the most assists too lmfao. If he'd never scored a single goal in his career he'd still be like a top 10 player ever. THat's how crazy he is. Add in his moments of sheer brilliance and you get.... the fucking Greatest of All Time.
Cristiano has more than double UCL goals than Messi but CR7 only has 1 more Champions League trophy than LM10. Clearly scoring goals alone doesn't win you trophies. 😅
Two more records How many times did Ronaldo or Messi cheered at a team mate scoring? Messi 100% of the time Ronaldo. 3 times….2 where by accident How many times was Messi or Ronaldo mad a at teammate for not handing him the ball…even though the other guy had a better shot? Messi…..never Ronaldo…..about 20 times per game
well to compare a worldcup performance with the best season is crazy like comparing the first 10 games of haarlands first Year in MC with the best whole season of Ronaldo. cool to see but it says just nothing.
What the video says about Zidane will soon be said about Messi and Ronaldo, when Doku surpasses them in dribbling or Vini, when Halaand and Mbappe surpasses them in goals...Eye test really is the best, you had to be there to see the magic

Just gonna state the obvious here. In lieu of watching every game ever recorded, you can just say "that I've ever seen". I'd say 99.99% of football fans haven't watched a full season of players outside their own generation. So a vast majority of people shouldn't speak on the likes of Pele and Maradona too much apart from praising them. But I fully agree. If you are like me and have followed world football since the late 90's, it's impossible to not put Messi in a league of his own. Regardless of stats and accomplishment, he's the most talented.
This is not an American girl game football. It’s a Europe opinion game and who score most goals means nothing to who is the best player. You just don’t understand the game, but that’s OK. You are Americans.
Important to remember that half of Neymars career was spent playing a lower standard than Messi and others; I was surprised at first but this gives it some perspective. Still impressive though

It's not debateable who's the greatest is but props to Ronaldo for making up a debate
For me is Messi probabl the no 1 ever but he is overhyped since the World Cup 2022. Football is too complex to compare players with diferrent playstiles and positions
Proof? Or just making baseless accusations?... Don't bother answering, we already know the answer, point being you're predictably stupid, not on the normal level of idiocy
What? Lmfao. Ronaldo's entire legacy relies on measurements. Messi is an artist who does way more than stats can ever describe. Messi could have 100 career goals and still be the best ever. If Ronaldo had 100 goals he would be a glorified Giroud.
Charts make 0 allowance for how rules , pitches and equipment have changed. I also would pick Maradona peak over ANYONE, sorry charts /stats or not, I watched them both at their peak(&and a lot since) and Id take Maradona every day of the week. Dont get me wrong , Messi is the best wing forward of all time, but I think Maradona was a better all round player and a better captain, he took average teams to the top, Messi made great teams greater

😂😂😂😂😂
It just proves one more time how dangerous was the trio MSN - Messi, Suarez, Neymar in Barca. Best offensive
Ronaldinho would have been the greatest of all but for his lifestyle. Messi learnt a lot from him to become the greatest of all.
MESSI 🐐
Ronaldo never had electrifying dribbling he never really did anything with his dribbles other than to stand still and show off with fast step overs. All of his goals is basically, get the ball, and take 1 touch inside and shoot. He was very good at that though.
cryuff was best in everything, as a player or a coach or a manager or in strategies, or in front of the journalists!
16:34 this happened recently in the brazil second division and neymar replied to it with: “Next game this ref will be there, You do it again and look at him 😂“
10:30 let it be known, we cannot compare Modric to Iniesta, Kroos maybe in terms of passing but Iniesta was also a better dribbler
Cruyff was called Godfather of modern football
Messi passes both the eye-test and the stats-test
Have you reacted to Heung Min Son?
I still say stats might mean to people but for me messi is one of a kind, he doesn't need stats to be declared, he is the best.
That ronaldo can’t dribble Messi is a dribbler he’s everything
Messi avarage is based of 20 years. others only one tournament 😀
Cruyff the true GOAT !!
Worst video I've ever seen, and I'm a Messi fan.......One season versus a whole career
Yes, I agree. It would be better and more fair to see the numbers again, comparing only the best season for each.
wdym one season versus whole career
Some of the comparisons in this video are kinda like if someone took into consideration just your first 10 attempts (where you have the best ratio you ever had during the competition) and compared them to your mate's total attempts (10 shots, 5 goals and 100 shots 50 goals - 50% success rate)
Using those variables makes it look like the both of you have the same success rate when the whole picture tells you something very different
The comparison isn't fair because the whole basis of it is skewed.
@@giuliacasetta4387 Wonderful analysis
The ones for the older players are always going to be lower. Like, for Zidane they used his 1998 Wolrd Cup win, playing against the best defenders in the world, whereas Messi and Neymar's stats include league games against relegation teams. On the flipside, Messi and Ronaldo stats include their later seasons when they're past their best - but they are being compared with players at their absolute peak. So it's not really a fair way to compare.
stop with that defenders lame argument, messi will adapt in any era

Messi has 47 goals in Champions after 16 round 😅
Dribbles is getting past a player, not step overs...
3:25 Bro you gotta watch him at Manchester United, he was hella fast dribbler
his best season on ManU still worst than messi season in Miami🤣
btw, Neymar wasn't booked for the rainbow flick. it's a narrative started by clickbait networks that incite stupid people to perpetuate out of outrage, and this video creator was obviously one of them. unfortunately it worked very effortlessly on you too Luke.
I was waitig for a video hehe
13:21 Zidane was never consistent for 20 years tho. So the numbers definitely matter
HI Luke, Hi guys...
here we are... again... caman debate is over.. he is the GOAT.. so can we please stopo talking about him ?? 😅🤣😂
Johan Cruyff revolutionize football, I had say he is d frst superstar of football.... smartest n most complete man in football world. At top....
Cristiano has more than double UCL goals than Messi but CR7 only has 1 more Champions League trophy than LM10. Clearly scoring goals alone doesn't win you trophies. 😅
Cristiano has won 5 UCl With 140 Goals And Messi Has Won 4 ucl with 129 goals But In Laliga Cr7 won 2 times And Leo won it 10 times😅
Same amount of ucl as Messi while he was in Real Madrid…
more than double UCL goals than Messi? LMAO back to the kitchen lady
the music is too loud cant hear the narrator
Two more records
How many times did Ronaldo or Messi cheered at a team mate scoring?
Messi 100% of the time
Ronaldo. 3 times….2 where by accident
How many times was Messi or Ronaldo mad a at teammate for not handing him the ball…even though the other guy had a better shot?
Messi…..never
Ronaldo…..about 20 times per game
well to compare a worldcup performance with the best season is crazy like comparing the first 10 games of haarlands first Year in MC with the best whole season of Ronaldo. cool to see but it says just nothing.
What the video says about Zidane will soon be said about Messi and Ronaldo, when Doku surpasses them in dribbling or Vini, when Halaand and Mbappe surpasses them in goals...Eye test really is the best, you had to be there to see the magic
😂😂
That won't happen men, not in at least 100 years
Messi has 46 trophies
11:45 who tf is mabappé?
literally translates to "my baby" i think it's supposed to be mbappe or smth
But MSN Barca reached never the niveau of 2008-2012 Barca. Barca 2010/2011 was the best team in football history. Barcas second best team was 2008/2009 (but only brcause of the titles) 2011/2012 Barca was way more dominant than Barca 08/09. Kiddies think Barca 08/09 was better because of Henry but Villa was a way better fit in 10/11, and Henry was basically finished just one year after Barcas CL win in 2009. In 2010 after Frances desastrous World Cup he also left Barca to the MLS. Henrys best years were long go when he joined Barca. Pedro and Et'o fitted also much better
Messi is a god and ronaldo is an angel ❤❤❤❤❤
Most decorated player of all time ? Messi
Most Goal Contributions of all time ? Messi
Best Dribbler of all time ? Messi at least top 3
r/TopRightMessi exist for a reason
but you have to know that Ronaldo had a lot more games after CL Ro18. But still crazy.
This video is useless .. Just watch football enough, if u still don't think messi is the best ever, then u need to watch more football.
Regardless of stats and accomplishment, he's the most talented.
exactly
This is not an American girl game football. It’s a Europe opinion game and who score most goals means nothing to who is the best player. You just don’t understand the game, but that’s OK. You are Americans.
Important to remember that half of Neymars career was spent playing a lower standard than Messi and others; I was surprised at first but this gives it some perspective. Still impressive though
And also proves that neymar is second best if it wasn't about injuries he would hav been the greatest of all time
yeah CR7 is a total beast too, respect.. he is also an alien.
luke you didnt know how good ronaldinho was and also you still dont know how good messi was, you have to watch young messi and cristiano, and you still dont know how good roandlo was
He could watch every single minute of Ronaldo's career. It wouldn't change anything. Everyone who understands football knows Messi is clear.
@@samwilliams0901 i know that, but he havent watch enough videos yet, he didnt Even know how good Ronaldinho was.
I have so much to say about this but ocousre im team Messi, i've been a BArca fan since i was 3, 19 years ago btw. Messi is just the most complete baller ever no doubt. No one comes close to him.... i'd always say ronaldo is the second greatest oat but in reality... Messi is number 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9 and so on. It's not debateable who's the greatest is but props to Ronaldo for making up a debate
I don't know where you are getting your numbers. No one has scored more in Europe than Messi
MESSI

Cruyff is the greatest playmaker of all time.
Neymar has all time top 3 talent, he just wasted it
For me is Messi probabl the no 1 ever but he is overhyped since the World Cup 2022. Football is too complex to compare players with diferrent playstiles and positions
he was not overhype, he dont even need the world cuo. he have one of the best performance i the last 26 years

What?

Messi took over an average Barcelona for about 4 years in a row
