  • Homeowner-made video of a manual weed removal system on Coral Lake in Dade County, Florida. The video is a 4-part action demonstration.
    1) A cutting boat with an adjustable underwater arm with a 4 foot cutting blade, which can cut 56 inches below the surface.
    2) A harvester boat that retrieves the cut weeds.
    3) A conveyor belt system that transports collected weeds into truck .
    4) A razor tool demo for keeping lake beaches and shoreline clear of weeds.
Test proved that a roughly 10-acre lake with significant aquatic grasses and weeds can be cleared for swimming and boating, by selectively cutting and harvesting, in approx 2 days.

We did the cut, harvest and removal for 3 days in a 9-10 acre lake last April. We were able to cut the weeds approximately 5 feet below the surface . We have not cut since. We will cut again this April / May when the water is at it's lowest level. So the answer is about 1 year. We believe this method will continue to slow the growth with each additional yearly cut. Also it is becomes easier to cut as you learn the depths of the lake and it's hidden underwater obstructions, such as dead trees.

Is it expensive? For small ponds and lakes I would think the expense is the most important issue, especially if it's a private pond and one owner situation.

How long does it sustain the weed growth? One summer? Let me know.

I could see it useful for lakes. Trim by the shore so propellers don’t catch in the turbine.

The appearance of weeds is unfortunately part of a lakes life cycle. Now we have asian aquatic weeds and they are speeding things up.
