Something I have always done, being right handed I harness from the near side, is to attach the polestrap/martingale assembly (Amish harness here also) on the near hame, and I leave the belly band buckled on the near side also as it is less crap to heave over their back and no long straps to slap them as they go over and then drop. Just a personal quirk but with 35 years of doing it I never vary the practice. For me I only break my own horses. I know them, I know what I want in a horse, and I can get that out of them. Broke 4 in the last 2 years and all doing splendidly farming, logging, and for-hire rides in the city/night time traffic/etc. I would never entrust the breaking of my horse to someone else. Just my 2 cents as an old farmer.
Wish you all a good Christmas and feel free to check out my virtual sleigh ride footage shot today just out exercising my wheel and lead teams separately in the bush. Not as high tech in camera work, harness, or driving skill, but I have fun!

Love your videos! I am thinking about training my 13.2 hh mustang mare to pull a cart. The information you are sharing is very useful. Utah, USA.

Thanks guys, loved the video. I'm planning to bring my 2 little girls back into work over Christmas after near enough a year off. How far should I go back in their training to restart them do you think?

You could pull a tyre as singles first in a round pen, but I would expect them to be fine, they have such a good can do attitude

Hi, am from Serbia. I have a problem with my horse. She is 11 months old, and she is afraid of chains when she need to draft a tree, she was spooked couple times and now I have problem. Is there a hope?

Yes she's still very young, ours aren't doing draft work until they are 4, when they are mentally and physically mature enough to handle it. Give her a long break, then work on desensitisation in a situation where she is safe and comfortable, and has plenty of positive reinforcement
