“Despite the life you’ve lived, do you think I still love you?” So, for context, it’s common in Mormon families that if you leave the church, go against its teachings, or do something “wrong” then you’re burned and family members will not see you the same way anymore. It’s pretty common to hear about young adults who don’t speak to their parents anymore because their parents shun them and refuse to speak to their children anymore. And parents who don’t disown their children, will openly say things against them and often will “lose” love for that kid or treat them differently because of it. And I’m not talking about serious crimes or anything, literally for things as simple as drinking alcohol or not going to church.
which, i feel like i should add as a practicing member of the church, goes against the gospel And church leaders teachings. unfortunately a lot of people don't practice the gospel doctrine they claim to follow.
Former Mormon here, my theory about why there were multiple Mormons on is basically the culture of Mormonism. It’s very “fake a smile, appearance is everything, lie to save face.” People will say one thing and mean another just to maintain the illusion of being a good or kind person. There’s a lot of silent judgement in Mormon culture. If you aren’t living a perfect life then you’re open to harsh criticism and sometimes even ridicule, which is stupid because no one is perfect. A show like this that exposes truths would be appealing to Mormons who just want straight answers and it works well because everyone has things to hide, just bolstered by the fact that everything is so taboo to “the church.”
i think its also/more likely that they filmed in a Mormon heavy area? (although i cant find info on where they filmed so i might be wrong lol. I'm basing it off a gut feeling that they're California mormons)
I’d also like to say, as an ex mormon, drug use is pretty common. That environment - especially if you’re not perfect, or you are lgbt - is really damaging. I caught my mom calling people just to tell lies about me and cause gossip for that great Mormon sympathy for her. She didn’t care if it affected me - which thankfully it didn’t. But man imagine if I had wanted to stay in the church? You really think I could have told people my mom lied and they actually believe me? You described it all perfectly. I may not be Mormon anymore but the culture is embedded in my non Mormon siblings.
Though Mike is not my uncle, I grew up Mormon, and the Mormon way is definitely a lot of casual dating of anyone you know, so sisters would not be strange if it just didn't really click. And then also, on the sex with friends wife question, there is definitely a culture of like, if you're not your partner's first then even if they choose you, it's not as good or you're made to feel less than or their love is less than etc. And also for that to be public there's definitely a huge shame that like, she's a woman to be pitied within her church community.
In my experience(wasn’t a virgin before I got married) people in my ward knew I wasn’t a virgin probably because I told a couple people and then it got spread around lol but I wasn’t shamed or looked at as “less than”
Not raised mormon but my family was and I lived in Utah and everything Jess said is 100% true. The shame and weird gatekeeping around sex is huge in mormon culture. The first is always the best to men, and if you (women) have had sex you’re “ruined” or inferior. It’s wonderful!
I think that the couple probably thought that the show would be a win-win for them, with Aimee "getting relief" from hearing the polygraph answers, and them winning money for it. I've known a lot of people who thought that they would feel secure in their relationship if they "had proof" that their partner was telling the truth. (I'm using quotes because there's no such thing as a "lie detector"; it's pseudoscience.) But that's not how trust is built in a relationship-- relying on a test to "prove" that something is true or false just reinforces the original mistrust, and it puts partners at odds with one another. I feel sad for both of them and for their kids
At least in the area I grew up in, mormons dating an entire family of people is not uncommon. There was even one case where a boy dated every girl in a family of 5 girls and 3 boys. He finally settled on the youngest sister. The entire time, there had been this "Who will he pick?" suspense going on and I think only like two or three of us thought it was a very weird situation all around.
So at least one of those girls mustve been either way too young or way too old for him right? There mustve been a 10+ year age spread between the girls, and for really young adults that makes for a pretty significant age diff.
I thought about it and I think I like Mike. My gut reaction is to be iffy about him, but I think that is motivated by the reactions to his answers more than the answers themselves. I believe religion and norms/expectations about sex and dating played a HUGE role here. So he has fantasies? So he dated other women? So he had sex before? All of these things hold huge weight when looked at through a Christian/Mormon spiritual lens but are not things that we look down on typically in these videos (not saying Jarvis was). Mike's wife was absolutely allowed her feelings and reactions to his answers, but I don't think any of his answers were bad.
@@GivenFailure it’s really not her fault she was basically born into a cult & had those values forced onto her since birth. she doesn’t realize she’s perpetuating anything, she’s just feeling

Honestly? I like Mike. I feel like all the “bad” things he confessed to are only bad under the strict, repressive culture of Mormonism. Not to invalidate Aimee’s feelings or anything, I’m sure she’s a victim of indoctrination too, but like that ideology just has SUCH an unhealthy impact on how you view sex and relationships. @@daliahmeadow5257 i hope your bf is understanding of the jealousy, it’s a really hard thing for both sides…and YES. No one needs to know unless it suits their boundaries/ relationship style. It's hard too because I really approach that question from societal standards, because that is what often shapes our own standards, so even if you love them more than anyone you've ever loved before, even if they are absolutely perfect for you, they may not be the prettiest in society's eyes. Amen to that! I don't get why people can't just accept everyone as long as they are good people. Someone being trans doesn't hurt anyone. Just love people for who they are inside!
Because of my depression I criticize myself a lot. Some of the hurtful things I've said about myself has brought my fiance to tears. His tenderness, compassion for me, and strength he showed in those tears did make me love him more.
So about his friends wife- the phrasing is such so that while we can say the woman is his friend's wife *now,* the question is vague enough that there's no definitive evidence saying she was anyone's wife *at the time of the fling*
Even if you are Mormon it's weird to date siblings the way he did. Dating is different within Mormon culture though, you don't kiss you're basically old-fashioned courting. It's *supposed* to be that way but a lot of people do really weird things like dry hump because you get in less trouble with the church if you're fully clothed going "too far" 😅
A lot of people are talking about the casual nature of Mormon dating but I would agree, I think it'd turn heads for somebody to basically run through an entire group of siblings even when not "seriously" dating each of them.
Haven't made it to the end of the video yet, but having grown up in mormonism, his dad saying "in spite of the life you've led" makes more sense than a lot of people realize. It is VERY difficult to leave this church, and most people who do are frowned upon and a lot of them are shunned/disowned. Lots of parents blame their kids for leaving because they think they're just going against the grain and doing this to spite their parents, when it's really just the kids figuring out themselves, and it really strains parent/child relationships. Lots of ex-mormons cut off their mormon family when they leave because it's so hard to have so many people you were once close with telling you that you're a shitty person and that you deserve to go to hell. Obviously different people have different experiences but it's very common.
I havent seen most of these, and as stated Jarvis says dont spoil it. Then asks by spoiling, "is this where he dated the sisters beforehand?" As he (contestant) answers yes...
I feel like if you didn’t grow up in the culture of fundamentalist religion, then it’s hard to understand what’s (probably) going on here. Fundamentalist Mormonism does not have a healthy relationship with sex and sexuality. When it comes to the risqué, it’s a culture of repression and shame where sex is only meant for heterosexual married couples. In these communities, to have participated in sexual acts before marriage is considered a stain, to the point that it can disqualify you as a potential partner for your abstinent peers and potentially make you a target for judgement/rumors. Given all this, relationships between unequally abstinent fundamentalist religious people are, as you’d expect, complicated. So... From what I can tell, it seems most likely that Amy is in this situation: she loves her husband and they’re faithful to each other, but she remained abstinent until they were married where as Mike did not. This would also explain her unhealthy obsession with and distrust surrounding her sister’s past relationship with Mike. If that’s the case, then I’m not sure Amy deserves much in the way of sympathy (specifically for the sex stuff discussed on the show) because, as much as I hate to see her cry, those tears are for herself. She’s mourning the fact that she isn’t married to a “pure” man. She’s mourning the fact that her husband wasn’t perfectly celibate before they met, and to the point that it’s brought strife into their relationship. She’s making her husband feel guilt and shame for something he did years ago, and it was never any of her business in the first place. She almost certainly married him knowing he wasn’t a virgin, so how is it fair or healthy for her to hold it over him? (If he lied about being a virgin, however, that would significantly change my interpretation of the situation.) I also just want to acknowledge the fact that none of this is really Amy’s fault, and I don’t mean to attack her if it sounds that way. She’s a victim of indoctrination and repressive ideology that she had no choice but to live under for (probably) her whole life. For that, and for the pain it brings her and her loved ones, I feel more sympathy than ever. Sorry for the essay, but this hit too close to home for me, lol. Before I was an atheist, I was exactly like Amy: unhealthily jealous and unfairly obsessed with my partner’s past to the absolute detriment of our relationship.
I am sorry you went through that, it’s tough. I am glad you are okay now though :) Also, thank you for the meaningful insight here too. I think you are likely right on this, but even if that’s not the case… your comment here is so helpful in understanding the level of nuance that potently exists in their relationship. Also, super helpful in understanding the dynamics of relationships within fundamentalist cultures.
I’m glad to see someone else say this. I wasn’t raised Mormon, let alone religious, but I grew up around a lot of Mormons, my childhood best friend included. The effect that the ideology has on someone’s relationship with sex is REALLY unhealthy and troubling, and I watched it form in so many people over the years. That kind of repression just straight up is not healthy, and while I’m of course sad for Aimee as she seems to be a victim of it herself, it’s also really frustrating that Mike is being made out as if he did something wrong just for having sex years ago. That isn’t something to feel guilt over :/
Agreed with everything. I just wanted to add that "fundamentalist Mormonism" is redundant lol, they're all fundamentalists or they're considered "inactive" or "less-active," or the worst to be considered as, "apostate."
Shoutout to armstrong380!! I unfortunately don't have a consistent enough schedule to participate in live streams on Twitch. I do really enjoy reading the chat during these videos, there are some truly hilarious people out there.
I mean, there was like nothing that Mike said or did in the entire thing that sounded bad really. Just sounds like he dated people before he got married and the stuff really just goes against Mormonism...
I feel like that final question was so rough on Aimee bc her husband has not only dated her two sisters, had the show imply he fantasizes about them/find them more attractive than her, but then finds out that (as a Mormon) she was not his first but it was actually her CLOSE FRIEND!!! That’s a lot of feelings of betrayal and a LOT of blows to anyone’s self worth regardless of religion/views on sex/marriage/etc but especially when you consider that it sounds like she thought she was his first up until the polygraph for the show and then learned that she wasn’t and therefore is not his true soulmate has GOT to hurt
Yaaayy! New vid! Is your live on Twitch? Sorry, I’m lame and not “in the know” 😅 I’m trying to be more involved in the communities online that help me feel happy.

48:15 when you're raised with such a strict emphasis on "purity", that can be a really hard thing to hear even when it's not a cheating situation. all growing up you constantly hear about purity and how important it is to wait for marriage and finding out your partner didn't can really mess with your head. especially if they lied about it before.

Jarvis’ chat filled with sweethearts 💖
Amen to that! I don't get why people can't just accept everyone as long as they are good people. Someone being trans doesn't hurt anyone. Just love people for who they are inside!
@@ThatOneSuccubus It's always nice to feel included and accepted. Glad you are here! xoxo
is that an Inscryption pfp?
"I fell more in love with my husband after making him cry." Audience: Awwwww.
Because of my depression I criticize myself a lot. Some of the hurtful things I've said about myself has brought my fiance to tears. His tenderness, compassion for me, and strength he showed in those tears did make me love him more.
THE WHIPLASH WHEN HE SAID HE WAS MORMON I STOPPED LAUGHING LIKE DEADASS THIS ADDS A WHOLE NEW LAYER BRO THIS SHIT IS WILD WAIT HOLDUPPPPPP
So about his friends wife- the phrasing is such so that while we can say the woman is his friend's wife *now,* the question is vague enough that there's no definitive evidence saying she was anyone's wife *at the time of the fling*
no jarvis, i do not want to be like armstrong. i want to be like binkusbonkus
These lives have become part of my daily routine I’m obsessed
Watching chat absolutely ERUPT after the sister daring reveal makes me howl
Watching these alone are miserable, so just having someone there to break it up makes these episodes so much easier to digest
the captions are really giving us a whole new story
I see grandma hazel as very kind but sassy and hilarious lol
Uncle Mike be like "I gotta get in with that family"
As someone with two Uncle Mikes, this is going to be a weird watch.
UNCLE MIKEEE
I watched it in stream and now again with vod
Mike is really into the family
I havent seen most of these, and as stated Jarvis says dont spoil it. Then asks by spoiling, "is this where he dated the sisters beforehand?" As he (contestant) answers yes...
grandma hazel is the literal love of my life
these vods help me feel so much less lonely while in sick. bronchitis is a bitch, but jarvis and chat are so comfy :)
I’m really SO surprised this like “tore the family apart” it wasn’t that bad!
he’s the goat
let him live 😭 🙏
I could be just like Armstrong if your streams weren't at 3 am on weekdays for my timezone :
Oh nooo Mike tries to be a little triumphant at the end and Aimee is still just completely crushed.
We stan Grandma Hazel
Right? She seems so sweet and kind and innocent
The drama! This Mormon man drank green tea everyday for 2 years. It was pretty intense
(If he lied about being a virgin, however, that would significantly change my interpretation of the situation.)
I also just want to acknowledge the fact that none of this is really Amy’s fault, and I don’t mean to attack her if it sounds that way.
I am glad you are okay now though :)
Also, thank you for the meaningful insight here too.
I just wanted to add that "fundamentalist Mormonism" is redundant lol, they're all fundamentalists or they're considered "inactive" or "less-active," or the worst to be considered as, "apostate."
youre mixing up fundamentalist mormon with mainstream Mormon. the fundamentalists are the polygamists lmao
Shoutout to armstrong380!! I unfortunately don't have a consistent enough schedule to participate in live streams on Twitch. I do really enjoy reading the chat during these videos, there are some truly hilarious people out there.
My dad is one of five boys... my mom dated two of his brothers. family band. 🤣
Why is everyone so pressed about a wax penis replica, that seems bad ass honestly.
I mean, there was like nothing that Mike said or did in the entire thing that sounded bad really.
Just sounds like he dated people before he got married and the stuff really just goes against Mormonism...
Also, like, the family has to be the ones asking these questions, right? Like… the sister question? 😳😳😳
Yeah, that's what always confuses me. Who are the people asking these very specific questions?
It is!
What a wonderful notification, I love to see it.
Hey Jarvis I know you probably won’t see this but I want to tell you every video you put out is a comfort
Question 2 escalated quickly 😂
commenting before watching the video, i hope uncle mike doesn't say anything that messes up the family for years!
If Jarvis does do bingo with this "who cares" should be the free space because there is always that part.
currently three minutes in this family seems very sweet i like them so far
im now conflicted about our uncle mike but the rest of the family is still very sweet i think
But mike didn’t do anything wrong? Why be conflicted about him?
@@hommefataltaemin”didn’t do anything wrong” is a very subjective statement
20:29 and here we understand why the attractiveness question holds so much weight 😳
“No attraction to lose”
The accountants I know are currently going through a company’s billing hour logs and making them justify everything cuz it’s so clear they were inappropriately billed - happens a lot
As an exmo, I know exactly why he'd lie about his belief in mormonism.
why do we all have an uncle mike?
48:15 when you're raised with such a strict emphasis on "purity", that can be a really hard thing to hear even when it's not a cheating situation. all growing up you constantly hear about purity and how important it is to wait for marriage and finding out your partner didn't can really mess with your head. especially if they lied about it before.
purity culture moment
41:30 you’re welcome Jarvis:)
Had to go out and buy cream puffs to enjoy yet another episode of a Jarvis stream. I'm gonna be on break from work soon so hopefully I can catch some live!
29:50 GRANDMA HAZEL LOOKS READY TO THROW DOWN MY GOODNESS
Lot of people either feeling really guilty or very curious about fantasies.
Ugh, having a hard time finishing this one. I'm so uncomfortable right now.
COLE WAS THERE TOO
i loved this episode omg
this show should be called 'how to wreck a marriage in just a few questions'
Uncle Mike family dating speed run (GONE RIGHT)
I was here for this stream! :D
UNCLE MIKE LETS GOOOO
I’m only two questions in but if anything bad happens to this family i swear to god
I like how uncle Mike has 6 siblings and the 2 siblings that came on the show aren't even his
Why did I just get an ad for "Louder with Crowder" about Amy Schumer?
Why am I crying at a Moment of Truth show?
