  • This ride takes place in Moab, Utah on a trail called Slick Rock Bike Trail. This trail is open to cyclists, hikers, and dirt bikers! What a cool experience it was to share the trail with so many other people. The slick rock is an absolute riot! The traction is incredible no matter what tire you're running. If you're looking to ride in Utah and experience this kind of terrain, I highly recommend this trail! I went in October so the temperature was perfect for riding. I am told that it is unbearably hot in the summer time though.

    like everyone else i love moab. i live in colorado so it isn't an epic drive out there. in fact i went 4 times this year. i go in the spring, fall and summer! early spring and late fall are a bit hard to predict weather-wise. but in the summer, you can always predict the temps and ride in the early AM or PM.

    Megs, Of course it's always nice to be courteous to others, but people should not forget that the Slickrock Trail was originally established for and by motorcyclists-- everybody else is a newer guest!

    • @Clickmaster5k
      @Clickmaster5k 5 лет назад

      ya what happens where I live is motorcyclist built the trails years ago then they take trail and close it to moto so horses and bicyclist can use it. Sharing the trails here would not be a good idea I think a lot of dirt bikes would run over other trail users and lots of places there isnt space to get out of the way and around each other very easily. That said they are two way trails so we get around each other...

      Clickmaster5k Where is "here" that it's justified to take away the trails that were built by motorcyclists?

    • @Clickmaster5k
      @Clickmaster5k 5 лет назад

      @@biketothetop Tillamook state forest is where I was thinking. There are lots of trails there that if I'm honest probably started as deer trails then hiking then motorcycle trails. There are hundreds of miles of trail in that area and I like the idea of mix use recreation areas in the woods. There shooting and equestrian activities there too. I just remember years ago riding trails on my dirt bike that are not posted no motorized vehicles. I cant say for sure they where built by bikers I guess but I can say that they where well used by dirtbike and are not well posted not for dirtbikes.

      Slick Rock was originally a motorcycle trail, but motorcyclists are their own worse enemy. Buzzing by other people, going off trail and being generally inconsiderate. Moab will protect their cash cow (i.e. Mountain bikers) and Motorcycles will be the first to go

    Moab is such a blast! Unique experience and nothing like our PNW ridng! You have to hit Kane Creek, absolutely a hoot ripping through the creek. Also, don't miss Sovereign trail, so fun!

    I used to ride motorcycles when I was younger. Sold them and am now a lifelong mountain biker. I really enjoyed this video perspective. You are so positive. : ) I've always wanted to ride slickrock but at age 51...I'm not sure if I will get to.
    But I enjoyed the video from a motorcyclist viewpoint. Great!

      Trail Lady MTB I’m so glad you enjoyed it! I think you’d be more than fine out on the slick rock, especially at 51! I recently rode with an older fella out in the same area. I met him in the parking lot and we ended up riding together. He was 80 years old and riding all the same rocks as me!!

    You stopped and looked into some kettle holes too, right? There's water in those halos all the time, and there's an entire ecosystem in those small pools.Fairy shrimp! In the desert! It was one of the coolest things I saw when I was there 10 years ago for mountain biking. Also. there are tons of native American petroglyphs, and dinosaur footprints to be found throughout the area.
    If you are riding in the rock areas and come across carefully arranged rock cairns, stop and check it out, usually these are places to identify dinosaur footprints at that spot, so people won't walk, bike, or ride over them and wear them faster than wind and rain will.
    Hope you get to ride Sovereign trail too. Try Amasa Back as well if you can.

      dznnf7 having ridden Slick Rock on a KLR 650, the traction on the rocks is incredible. You could likely ride the whole trail on street tires (save for a few patches of soft sand.) My understanding is the trail got its name from horseback riders, as the rock is Slick when you’re on metal horse shoes!

    My son and I attempted that trail in June at 1pm, all was going good till we got in about 3 mile and came across some cyclist that have been out of water for the past 6hrs, we were also on our mtb's , after giving them all our water except the 2l i had in my camel back we decided to turn around and go refill and ride other trails, it was a bit much for a 10yr old... kid is a shredder though

    I've ridden slick rock and to me it seemed more like a mountain bike trail that was designated for dirtbikes also but it never felt like I should be ridding there it was fairly boring accept for the scenery there are far better places to ride in Moab but for single track the outlying areas are a better choice Megs with your skill level I hope you got to ride Five Miles of Hell and Blood On the Rocks those trails would be a lot more challenging for you but the whole Moab area has scenery unlike any place in the world it's amazing to say the least if you ever get a chance take a Helicopter tour there it gives you a better perspective of how massive and unique the whole area is.

      I had the very same feeling and chose not to ride any multi use designated trails especially if they were close to town a few of the mountain bikers that I talked to were very nice people many were not as they wouldn't say anything and were basically just rude.

    I will never understand how you "go faster types" can ride without elbow and forearm protection. I've ridden offroad for 40 years and couldn't begin to count the number of times trees, stumps and rocks of every size have leapt up and attacked viciously ! Only thanks to plastics and padding have I bin able to continue the battle against a total lack of talent.
