I’ve always wanted a 6.9…. My grandfather daily drove his back in the 80s and always talked about how awesome it was. I do have a w126 that I’ve owned for about 19 years and it still feels like the best built car out there!! Thanks for sharing!
I've had a major boner for a jet black 90-91 560sec lately. I'll have to find one sooner or later. No amg stuff ,I like the look of them enough without it.
I had a euro spec 6.9 in the late 80's no emissions tech here in Australia. The car that made me fall in love with MB's. Had a tuned 2.5 inch single exhaust also a 14 inch nardi steering wheel. I used it to travel interstate fortnightly as I had a business in Sydney and lived on the GC in Qld. My mates called her the flying lounge room. Had 16 inch Ronal wheels 225/50/16 tyres. It's limitation was the three speed auto your manual would be great for open road fuel efficiency as they loved a drink. I remember one night going up the coast raining and came up against a V8 statesman we played for about 5 hours playing passing games he'd overtake me then I'd overtake him. As we got closer to coffs Harbour he pulled in for fuel I also needed fuel but managed to get to halfway creek. Coming out of the petrol station these lights came up behind me. Thinking it's the statesman over playing now as I'm 4 hours from home. I put my foot down at about 5 kilometres behind me his lights started to flash blue. I immediately pulled over hopped out and sat on the boot waiting for the inevitable. Turned out to be a NSW highway patrol xr8 falcon. Before he could get out of his car I was standing next to his door. I think that put him on the back foot as his first statement was if I hadn't pulled over he wouldn't have been able to catch me as I pulled away from him while he was accelerating like he was standing still he was all over the Benz asking what it was. $ 180.00 dollar and I was on my way. That was a 945 kilometre journey 8 hours regularly a couple of times I did it in 7.5 hours before all the new highway was built and we'd go through little towns along the way. I named her Battlestar Galactica huge but could move if needed
What a nice toy. And the sound amazes me. The stock configuration emphasised on quiet and smooth acoustics. Which made sense. Although a grinding noise dominated the engine sound IIRC. Your beast is a great modification on that. I'm working at the site that this car was born, so I'm excited to see what you did. And: Good old times when this car was manufactured. No legions of bean counters interfering with the engineering goals.
I've always been curious how one of these 116 or 126s would feel with a much lighter m112 or m113 engine instead of the much heavier units they came with. How that would effect driving charasteristics.

Now, put that angle drill back in the box for a few years. I bought mine for a project almost a decade ago, and have used it twice. Priceless, when you need it.
Looks to be a GS6-17DG from a newer BMW 4cyl diesel with another bellhousing welded on and blended. I'm guessing it's an M117 bellhousing because the bolt holes didnt line up and M100 transmissions are a bit rare.
I've always wanted a Benz sense the first time I saw the amg Hammer around 1987. I bought my first 2 months ago. A 2007 c350 for $800 at an Atlanta police impound auction. It has 73k miles and I'm guessing the broke-azz owner stopped driving it because the right rear brake line rotted out. After a trip to Autozone and spending $60. It stop much better. I didn't know the 3.5 was so strong. I've hit the limiter @ 130 mph. My next Benz has to be a 2012 e350. I'm 345 lbs. and I need a little more room.
I used to work for a shop and Reseda California called Mark degroff. We did All European. I worked on all the parts for that motor. We were ancient rebuild and had rebuilt company. My boss would have filled that hole that you made oblong. With aluminum in 2 seconds and then headache ground off like it was never there and then we drilled the hole perfectly. to each his own Mickey Mouse will work.😁

@ but there was a bell housing that matched up on a few of the bolts holes, and I assume also in the diameter. Plus you proved that setup will hold up for thousands of miles. I know there are some sites that offer a 6-speed they claim will fit a 6.9, m117, m119, m113, etc. but I also understand those have different bolt patterns. I’m primarily an iron block v8 owner with a few alloy m117, have a few g76 4-speeds, plus one g76 5-speed and also a g265 waiting on the custom bell to be built to mate it to a m117 alloy block ala AMG. I can clearly see your 6-speed looks quite different, and I was wondering where you got it. If you don’t want to share, I respect that. Thanks for the video! The car looks and sounds awesome.

What a fabulous story
I'm Bavarian German. All I can say is Wunderbar🎉
I have a gutted and caged W116 race car. It is smooth and comfy on track. Currently down for a drivetrain swap. Rock on! Love the manual swap
The manual swap made this into a monster! Amazing car
Transformation no doubt
i want a 560 sec. With a 5 speed Black int. Amg mom
o block Euro spec. That’s a sweet 450

Such an amazing car. The ultimate 116!!!!
I couldn’t ask anything different from it, you’re right
What a legendary car driven by 2 more legends
Don’t make me blush
The OG Hammer ! Raced one on my bike when they were current !! We had to agree to disagree !! Lol ! Fast cars !

The sound is almost what I’m most proud of. Big displacement goodness
The V8 sounds amazing❤
Agreed. It has a very pleasing exhaust note. It matches the look of the car, in my opinion.

that is a beautiful car, amazing. And then job you've done... incredible

The chassis are so well built, it’s fabulous
i had a w126 with m112 running e85 and pushing 241 to the wheels. It was fun and the sound was amazing with no cats
oh yes.... w116 with m113k ❤❤❤💦💦
@@tommivirtanen2782 that sounds like an awesome build, do you have any video on it?
If you don't have quad tailpipes, you must have quad front lights. MANDATORY. Great video man!
I like that requirement. Thank you
And in SUPER comfort.

This thing is a beast!!
Why thank you sir
Per usual. Great video!
I’m glad you enjoyed it
I've never seen a 116 manual swap, very cool! What transmission did you use?
It’s from a euro bmw
ZF? Getrag?

In Europe the W116 was available in Manuel 280 350 and the 300SD

Maybe extend the tail pipe a few centimeters???
A thought for sure
I remember back in the day of that being predominant on the back of cars!!! Brillo pads and water was the detail hack of the day.
Love that car!!!!

Awesome
Did you run it wit Jetronic or is it K-jertonic?

How fast is it now?
She will do 145 gps verified. Was 138 or so before the swap

Did you have to modify the cooling system?
I did a lower temp thermostat but otherwise stock
Fellow 6.9 owner here. Which box did you use for the conversion? The original 3 speed automatic does make the car a bit lame.

I have not tried the valentine
What transmission, bell, and engine flange were used for the project? (I'm still watching. So, I'm sorry if you cover that in the video.)
Custom built off of a getrag trans

Just had to offset the barn door aerodynamics with a larger fuel tank. Problem solved.
What's the hp?
250/380lb ft
The older engines are better. You can add EFI and high compression pistons!
