Sorry for the glitch at 3:50, not sure why it happened. Hopefully you didn’t think your computer or phone was broke! Keep your chickens and other animals warm this winter! Thanks for the support everyone!
Just bought a rubber bowl last night. Breaking the ice every hour on the small plastic waterers is a pain in the bitter cold. It never crossed my mind til I seen one of your previous videos. Take care Keep warm!!!
@@AcresOfAdventure I believe so tho I haven't yet seen any of the chickies drink from it. I'm sure they have. Stays good and clean too. Straw doesn't make it's way in there as easy as the lower waterers.
Brrr!! No snow here near Seattle yet, although when we came home yesterday there was a tiiiiny bit on the ground. Good luck with the continued winter prep :).
@@AcresOfAdventure we have to fill them all everyday regardless cause we have so many but the idea of being able to knock it out easily is very appealing! We currently use bowls that plug in but we want to get away from reliance on electricity
Ive been finding its easier to bring it out to them, let them drink while your making the rounds and take it back in later. Have been keeping them 24 inches off the ground, out of the wind, no lamp as the bulb always goes out with the power or the middle of the night. This past cold snap they all made it. 90 mi. S of the windy city.
We went to - 25 here for two days Wed and Thurs this week. Winds gusts at 65 mph with a wind chill of minus 65 degrees Fahrenheit. We had six chickens and a very small coop. We had to add heaters to help them survive
I saw where you can use an old tire , insulate the inner part , then put the blk rubber bowl in it filled w/ water. Add a rubber ball that will move the water as it goes across the water from the wind. This might be a good idea for the water when it’s freezing.
Have you tried putting the pigs water bowl in an old car tyre to insulate it, you could even stuff with used straw for extra insulation and as it composts will add more heat to stop freezing.
Idk man.. I live in central Texas and when it got down to 8degrees I put a heat lamp in the coop and half of the chickens refused to go back into the coop that night until I turned of the lamp.. 🤷♂️
if the light is not sufficient in your hen house why not add a skylight when the weather permits and to make your chicken tractor warmer why not replace the dark plastic sheeting with some clear plastic it would increase the warmth in the tractor.
This is our first winter with chickens up here in Maine. We already use rubber bowls most of the time but I notice a few of the birds’ waddles dip down in the water when they drink. Do you do anything to mitigate that problem for the long waddle chickens in winter?
Poor piggies! No shelter! Salt! Oh no, you named them and pet them! How are you going to eat them? I just about fainted as a kid when my grandma told me we were eating Harriet.
Glad I found you. Like your Hoop Coop. To lock them up at night, couldn’t you just block the door with a piece of plywood or a heavy buckets of dirt to keep predators out? Now I want 2 piglets!
@@AcresOfAdventure Oh I get it😂. I am a newer chicken keeper. Both my hens are 2 years old. My 3rd mysteriously died in her sleep. Couldn’t even tell she was sick.. acted normal. I am still learning.

Thanks so much! Hope they have a better football season next season! Hope we can get to be how your channel is one day!
@@AcresOfAdventure You will. Just keep your foot on the gas ;-)

Did it work better for you? Glad you enjoyed

Thank you Laura!
Nice video keep up the good work with your pigs and chickens
If I were a chicken that is the life I'd want.
We try to take good care or our animals here!
We got our chickens one of those waterer things, but it has an electric warmer built in to keep the water from freezing
Happy chickens and piggies! Love the rubber bowl idea...not sure why we haven't done this..I'll have to ask the mister!
Yeah, you might have to change it each day but it is so easy to knock the ice out and refill!

That is SUPER COLD, hope the chickens did okay!

No but I saw that idea and that might be a better idea then changing the water each day
Give your chicken some pumpkin seeds they love that.
We have been giving pumpkins to the chickens and our pigs!

I was just wondering if your chickens peck at and eat the tarps and plastic you put up? Mine do so it is a concern for me.
We have never had that problem that I have seen
Can't you put a cover for the pigs like the chickens have with the tarp to get out of the elements then there water food might be better and hay
Yes that would work really good, thank you Cheryl!
I do not do anything for my chickens and their fine but my bantams I heat their coop
QUESTION:
When you feed your chickens and pigs beans, do you cook them? Soak them? Or feed raw?
We cooked them!
Have you tried a tennis ball in the chicken's water dish?
No but I have heard about it, but think I heard ping pong balls I’m guessing same reason
😊🏜️

we like watching your videos. But get a better hat! Go Blue! 😉
Thank you so much! We love hearing that….well maybe not the “go blue” part though
Hi I'm inspired by your content so I'm starting up my own farming channle but I don't have any ideas can you give me some?
What kinda ideas are you thinking?
Poor piggies! No shelter! Salt! Oh no, you named them and pet them! How are you going to eat them? I just about fainted as a kid when my grandma told me we were eating Harriet.
That’s why they are named salt😃

That isn’t there coop they sleep in, they have a separate coop for sleep! And pigs are awesome

Just a reminder that TSC is still promoting and sponsoring sodom and gomorrah shows.
Stop playing with your food 😊
