The little public beach just north of the campground is my favorite place I've been in all of North America (43 states, 3 provinces, and 3 states in Mexico). You can walk a half mile or more out from the beach and still be in waist deep, bathtub warm water that is completely clear. If course for purely selfish reasons I wish you wouldn't expose how wonderful the middle Keys are =)

BAHIA HONDA means big water. I have a house on the water at other end of the bridge. Love it down there great diving. The shark that bites you, you will never see him until he bites! Have fun!!

My favorite place on the planet, Bahia Honda! Our family vacationed here my entire childhood during Christmas holidays. I came back to live in Big Pine Key near by in the early 2000’s for a half a decade. I also got my scuba diving certification at Looe Key. When I lived there, I made a point of going each weekend I had off to see if they had any campsites available. I got to camp right near the location you did. Nothing like launching your kayak in first thing in the morning going for a sunrise paddle. You guys did a wonderful job on this video. Made me so homesick. You really covered the best of Bahia Honda. Thank you from the bottom my heart.
I would recommend the snorkeling trip to fort Jefferson. I want to say it's about 70 miles off of key west. Totally worth it
This will definitely be a stop for us when the time comes. I lived in the Keys in my younger years but because of work I didn’t get to adventure that much. We can’t wait until we get the wheels turning!!!!

We lived in Key Largo for 18 years. Best time in our lives. Boating, diving, fishing, bar hoping and great restaurants.

Back in the mid 50's we used to come to this place from Key West to snorkel a lot. That is a pretty good sized BARRACUDA down there. BTW there are more attacks by BARRACUDA than sharks! When we fished near the reef down my Key West, whenever we hooked a BARRACUDA, we would kill it, and cut the leader, and feed the fishes.
OH SHARK!!! well better than the other word!! The difference between shark and man, they swim so much easier than we do.

My dad retired and bought a house in Big Pine Key, right down the road. He lived there for 20 years and considered Bahia Honda his home away from home. I can tell you that people that live there call it BAA-HEE-YA I think the grass is pronounced the same way.

Just absolutely beautiful with all the different varieties of fish.
I'm a Florida native and I've been camping at Bahia Honda since I was a kid in the 60's. I've been camping there every year for the past 20 years. I got scuba certified 20 years ago just to go there and catch lobsters every year. We already have our reservations for late July through early August to catch some more lobsters.Our whole family loves that place. I just posted a video I put together of old footage I had on my computer from 2017 and I have a 2018 video to premiere tonight! Hope you will check it out. Again, it was old footage off my computer and I didn't have a youtube channel in mind when I took the pictures. Hope you enjoy and thanks for reading this and watching our video. We met the Camp Hosts at Rifle, Colorado! It’s where they spend their time off until the head to the Keyes. Great people!!!
We always called it *buh-hey-a* Honda (lala) and went there about once a year to tent camp or pop up camper/rv. Love the keys, and I’ve lived in Fl since birth- orlando/Tampa/lake city

Every time I go to the Keys, I can't wait till I get back!! Nice vid and the underwater photography was outstanding. Many campgrounds are booked year to year and the cost is significantly higher than just about any other location BUT the views are worth it!!

We stayed at sunshine keys RV also this summer in July. First time in keys and yes we could stay there forever. Great summer!
That was an awesome video! I felt like I was underwater with you, I found myself holding my breath now and again. I love the parrot fish, they are my favorites. And yes, that big fish was a grouper. I really feel relaxed and happy after watching! So thank you for that! Cheers!

Nice snorkeling! I have snorkeled in Fiji, The Great Barrier Reef, Bonaire, Mexico, The Maldives, Hawaii and most of the Caribbean. The coral here is not as great as some places but the combination of fish, coral and clarity of water are very nice. Your camp spot was GREAT!!!

Hershey show was the past couple days....great show, lots of stuff and units to see. After 2 years of research, we decided on a 2020 Newmar Ventana. Great coach with lots of amenities. Great video Love the keys. We have stayed in the same site you did. Still trying to fig out how to load my Seadoo in my toy hauler. My kayaks work the best easy to load and unload. Toy haulers are great you can use the garage section for storage or you can turn it in to a bedroom, office, playroom, or a dinning room and have a back porch.
Or office space for us lol
I was at Bahia Honda in May and enjoyed every day. It is one of the hardest State Parke to get reservations at. They still had temporary bath houses due to last years hurricane (really not nice) so I just used my rig shower.

This was my favorite place in the Keys. I kept thinking they were saying Buy a Honda. Once we go FT, I will make sure we book well in advance. We WILL stay there at least once.

There’s a lot of conch in these waters, and although all of the Keys restaurants sell it, it’s not from these waters. You’re not allowed to take it here; it all comes from the Bahamas, where it’s legal to fish.
I don’t know how you got a reservation. Last March I tried to make 7 to 14 day reservation in ANY of the State Park Campgrounds in The Keys for the month of January 2020, so 10 months out. Each day, the new sites available and new registrations for each day started at 8 AM on the State Park Campgrounds web site. And every day by 8:05 other online people would always beat me to the reservation. After 2 weeks of trying I gave up and reserved a week at a private campground on Summerland Key for a week, which cost twice as much as a State Park.
We actually nabbed a cancelation! Yes, it is very difficult to get reservations. Just keep trying!👍🏼
You guys picke the worst time to be in the keys, too friggin hot. Oct- nov or March- April is awesome. You got lucky at curry hammock and Bahia Honda, two great kitesurfing spots.

Have any of you ever camped at Fort DeSoto Park? I've been there on day trips while visiting my cousins in Clearwater; it looks like a great place to camp, and is my favorite beach of the 4 or 5 FL beaches I've been to.

That State Campground is super hard to book, But just past the bridge, there is another worthy campground, called Big Pine Fishing Lodge. Excellent accommodations. BTW it's pronounced ; ... Bah Heeah Yah, Hondah, ... said kinda fast...
Goliath Groupers are protected, now a days, but they show show how minutely deliquiate this ecosystem is, and how some of this ecosystem works.

Thanks! We were bringing them inside for the 'key-hopping' time since we were going a short distance and the bungee method is difficult and time-consuming.

Not actually a question about the content of this video although..........I was watching your intro and was paying a keen attention to your kayaks and the way they are attached to your RV. My question is how are they mounted, is it just bungee cords? We too have two kayaks and trying to figure out how we can attach them without having to buy one of the expensive racks.
Yes, lots and lots of bungee cords. Tom recorded a video on it, so hopefully it will be a video in the future 👍🏼
