Do you really believe the mayor about only issuing tickets for 90 + mph and the chief saying it was a honest mistake on altering the tickets . I call BS on the mayor and chief.
In my state, driving over 80 is a prima facie act of reckless driving. It's also a lot higher fine upon conviction. If this town alters such tickets, are they reducing the fines proportionally?
It's absolutely all about the money and not public safety. A city of 800 people doesn't need it's own police department. The city admitted there's not much going on in the city.
I'm in a town of about 700 in Indiana and we have one more or less full time police officer and one or two 'part time/as needed' officers to cover for vacations or during the town infinitival and such.
State troopers work that area of interstate as well. That's how it works. Troopers are writing tickets, magistrates collect the money. Most of those ticketed mail it in because they are from out-of-town. I'll bet there are 10 attorneys in that area who do nothing but handle out-of-towner's tickets. They all feed off of the public.
Missouri had a problem with tiny towns to police for profit. Marlboro generated 60% of its budget, Edmunson had similar result. Eventually, the Legislature required all traffic revenue be deposited in the State's Treasury. The next day, police virtually disappeared from our highways and byways.
We had two cities, in Ar, doing the same thing a few years ago except they had speed traps setup at the outskirts of town. The AG here sent both cities a C&D letter. One city complied but the other did not. 6 month later they got an in person visit, and audit, and a very large fine. That got their attention and also go the small town a new mayor.
the state needs to step in and tell them they are NOT allowed to write tickets on the interstate...period .......just in the town limits and nowhere else
Wyoming does it, too. I got a 65 dollar speeding ticket and 2 days later in court, they tried to say it was 250 dollars. They even tried to accuse me of altering it. Greedy goblins, all of them.
They can save money by getting rid of the whole department. Let the Sheriff take it over. The Mayor and council knew exactly what was going on. More than likely they pushed it.
Someone should take a deep dive look at Emerson, Georgia. I-75, exit 283, about a thirty minute drive north from Atlanta (in normal traffic). Emerson gets much of it's revenue from the interstate, especially with trucks stopping on the exit/entrance ramp shoulders. The last information I had is that they kept one night shift officer that, unless needed somewhere else, was dedicated only to patrolling the ramps between Allatoona Road and Red Top Mountain Road. There is one truck stop at the Emerson exit, and it stays packed almost 24/7 and the closest place to stop is on the ramp shoulders. Unsuspecting drivers will be ticketed, and many will be towed. The towing and storage bill can run several thousand dollars, which is often split by the towing company and the city. Emerson should definitely be looked at. Parked trucks are just a big ATM to that city.
That' sounds like information the state attorney general , and a reporter need to know about, when I drove, I made sure the two states to not be in when the sun went down, was Georgia, and Tennessee, those two are what I call the shake down states...cop writes you a ticket, and officers, take some cash about 200.00$ and or the option is park the truck, stay as their guest and see the judge in the morning...so a 200.00$ shake down was reasonable...cannot make money sitting in jail....and trying to get your truck out of impound!
Mayor Baker and the Chief need to resign. I have seen these cops doing speed traps on I-75. A city 2 square miles and they are policing a stretch on I-75.😮
Back in the early 1980's, I spent a stint as a trustee at a Sherrifs Station. I could only shake my head as I watched, and listened to, them use a "Rogets Pocket Thesaurus" and some creative suggestions while writing up the ticket reports each day.
Imagine that 2 miles of interstate can generate that much revenue! A big chunk of that money should be rolled back to the state to build more interstate highway. Ticket revenue could replace sales and income taxes!
All the little towns throughout New York State does this.... it's a cash grab for the towns. Then there's NYC where it is magnified with the parking summons that get directly paid to the NYC Department of Finance and is figured into the budget. Quotas are alive and well.
I remember back in the late 1990’s when Duluth, GA couldn’t write radar tickets for 6 months. They just cracked down on Stop Sign, Traffic Light, Expired Registration, etc violations.
we are seeing this more, and more, proving that policing is for profit, not protection of the citizens. they shouldn't be writing tickets on the interstate, and if they are, they money should be going to the state not the town
WTH are they doing focusing on the interstate anyway? They aren’t the highway patrol and no way in hell they wrote tickets for only 90 mph plus. No way.
There’s a town close to where I live that clearly makes a lot of revenue off speeding tickets. They have a short stretch of a small but heavily traveled highway within their city limits. They lowered the speed limit from 55 to 40 on their little stretch of the road and regularly set up speed traps. You know they are counting on the revenue because they stopped my sister, who was going the speed limit, and threatened to give her a citation for “impending traffic by going too slow”. Luckily she has a dash cam and called them out for threatening to ticket her for obeying the law.
Question is where do you go to challenge the ticket if it's like that one place the mayor is by default the traffic court judge if the council is not held accountable for their illegal actions then nothing is going to change they need to find out who was behind this no matter how many involved and prosecute these people

You have obviously never been through Georgia….. always more local cops then state patrol on the highway …. Remember what’s illegal in your state my be legal in others
How is enforcing speed on the interstate help the safety of the small town nearby? It’s not about safety, it’s about money. This happened in the frontier days, if you crossed someone’s property you had to pay a toll. Cattle herds were paying to travel. Same thing upheld by armed men.
Lenox would’ve been wiser to simply ask the State that a North and South bound toll booth be built on the interstate that every driver would have to traverse in order to pass their little postage stamp on a town.
They couldn't because the interstate is owned and controlled by the Federal department of transportation. There are very few "tolls" on the interstate. What little you come across is actually state owned and controlled road.
You've got to stop letting any part of government whether it's city / state / county / federal fund itself through fines / forfeiture. You're inviting abuse.
If the police are that bad at managing money , perhaps they need a financial planner to come in and make them budget better. No more expensive phones and phone plans , lots of shopping at thrift stores , buying vehicles that are used and discounted as such , and so on.
I lived in Lenox and I like to know where is that money going because our roads in Lenox need repaved so bad the last time it was repaved was in 2022 who can I talk to about the roads
Save a city off 800 tons of money by putting PD bait car at entrances of town. 2 to 4 vehicles and a dummy, with solar powered lights. Much cheaper than this crap. 😊
How are no criminal charges being filed? Alternating government records legit in Georgia? Only ga highway patrol should be empowered to write tickets on interstates
There are SOOOO many times me and my wife refuse vacations to GA or further north to avoid getting gang raped by GA PD. You better look at the true cost of this BS. You should already be looking at your oath. Quick question... what tint level do you have????
WE HAVE A FEW JUST LIKE THAT HERE IN OKLAHOMA VALLEYBROOK 1 SQUARE MILE HAS 15 POLICE OFFICERS A CORRUPT JUDGE AND DA ( WHICH WORK FOR THE DIFFERENT TOWNSHIPS) THAT ARE ALL THE SAME NOTHING BUT SPEED TRAPS.
35% cap? has long that revenue exceeds. the cops don't have to write many. he probably got his orders from the top and taking blame. Or gave the order?
Let's break down the calculation step-by-step: 1. **50 tickets per day** by one officer. 2. Each ticket is valued at **$220**. 3. They work **6 days a week**. 4. **4 weeks** in a month. 5. **12 months** in a year. 6. **15 police officers** in total. Using this information, we can set up the calculation as follows: \[ 50 \times 220 \times 6 \times 4 \times 12 \times 15 \] Let's solve: \[ 50 \times 220 = 11,000 \] \[ 11,000 \times 6 = 66,000 \] \[ 66,000 \times 4 = 264,000 \] \[ 264,000 \times 12 = 3,168,000 \] \[ 3,168,000 \times 15 = 47,520,000 \] So, the total amount of money made in a year would be **$47,520,000**.
Thank you so much for highlighting this travesty. This is true journalism!!!
Do you really believe the mayor about only issuing tickets for 90 + mph and the chief saying it was a honest mistake on altering the tickets . I call BS on the mayor and chief.
Our government officials understand they can just say words. There is no accountability.
In my state, driving over 80 is a prima facie act of reckless driving. It's also a lot higher fine upon conviction. If this town alters such tickets, are they reducing the fines proportionally?
@@charlesyoung7436The speed limit on I-75 in that area is 70 mph.

Policing for profit by highway robbers

Local news is the only protection we have left.
Someone is guilty of falsifying records, and the chief is an accomplice. The mayor is likely culpable as well.
Did anything about that mayor make you think he wasn't just "getting his hustle on"? He ran for mayor to get "me some. Shiiiit!"
Wyoming does it, too. I got a 65 dollar speeding ticket and 2 days later in court, they tried to say it was 250 dollars. They even tried to accuse me of altering it. Greedy goblins, all of them.
CROOKS AND CORRUPTION
They got my son. They claimed he was doing 100mph, but they did not take him to jail. They are crooks
Those PIGS need to be in jail.. Altering tickets is a CRIME!!
This is how they pay for the slave patrol with tinted windows harassing Black motorist
So what does that make the mayor and his staff? Slavers?
Doraville at Buford highway and 285 is a speed trap. Reduces down to 35 mi an hour on a quarter mile stretch and that's it
They can save money by getting rid of the whole department. Let the Sheriff take it over. The Mayor and council knew exactly what was going on. More than likely they pushed it.
There are plenty of cities in Georgia, that are doing the same thing....the school zone cameras....and other unlawful taxation on the people
Corrupt government??!? NO!! Say it ain’t so! Hold the mayor and all city leaders accountable to the fullest extent of the law! Make an example!
20years day for day in prison should send a message

Why is this not criminal behavior on the mayor and the chief of police.
So many small towns are doing the same thing and it is wrong 😮😮WHAT WILL GA DO TO HELP SMALL TOWNSHIPS INCREASE THE REVENUE 🤑🤑🤑
State should step in and suspend the city’s charter. That is the only way to stop this crap.
Someone needs to lose a job and face civil penalties for this egregious behavior. Maybe more than one person. This is simply put, disgusting.
Cancel ALL speeding tickets of last two years and return fines back to drivers
No police department anywhere in the United States should be allowed to profit from traffic tickets period
I thought unlawfully altering legal documents that will potentially be used in court is a crime. Isn't that altering evidence...
Federally taking over all Leo duties should be imposed for max time in statute.this isn't a first city caught defrauding citizens..

They need to investigate the mayor's english.Police departments all the employees to see if they were pocketing in money

Safety is not a factor in this version of HIGHWAY ROBBERY. This town should have their ability to write any tickets canceled forever.

It's called Bills Of Attainder. Most people are not operating in commerce, so they don't need a license or registration.
A police force should be a cost to the community not a profit making body.
They should investigate Turner County. The whole county is a speed trap.
WHY were the cops from a tiny town patrolling on the INTERSTATE? They have no jurisdiction, only troopers are supposed to control that road.

I think cities or towns that try to annex land on an interstate should have to develop said lands in 2 yrs.

Wow CROOKED CITY OFFICIALS, SUPRISE SUPRISE SUPRISE
if these are the only kind of cops out their then I agree with defund the police 1000%
this is going on all over the country, LE, cities, we have let our servants become our masters.
They ought be made to pay the people who was fined back the extra they took
Local police should not be allowed on the federal interstate
Sounds like laws were broken was anyone arrested? Just citizens I bet
2 square miles and only 800 residents how many officers? Sounds like Coffee City Texas.
Its predatory tickets for profit its not about correcting bad behavior on the rd but it's not about making the county rich off the taxpayers back.

Hey Ciara! We graduated together 🥳
Formpolice, it is always a mistake but a mitake by the public results in prosecution
Sounds pretty cut and dry that this is policing for profit ..
Lenox was just trying to enhance their revenue.
I know for sure theirs other towns doing the same thing forsure without a doubt in every state prolly too
Seems as if the Devil never left Georgia....
Does a town of that size need more that a couple cops?
Y'all should look into Spalding counties school camera racket, and how your constitution rights don't hold up on administrative court

Every small town does this
What is a City police doing enforcing speeds on the HIGHWAY?
Small towns use speed traps it happens in south Carolina
Let's break down the calculation step-by-step:
1. **50 tickets per day** by one officer.
2. Each ticket is valued at **$220**.
3. They work **6 days a week**.
4. **4 weeks** in a month.
5. **12 months** in a year.
6. **15 police officers** in total.
Using this information, we can set up the calculation as follows:
\[
50 \times 220 \times 6 \times 4 \times 12 \times 15
\]
Let's solve:
\[
50 \times 220 = 11,000
\]
\[
11,000 \times 6 = 66,000
\]
\[
66,000 \times 4 = 264,000
\]
\[
264,000 \times 12 = 3,168,000
\]
\[
3,168,000 \times 15 = 47,520,000
\]
So, the total amount of money made in a year would be **$47,520,000**.
