Joe, how would you slice in simpler, convert the slices into drum rack #1, record (sample) additional parts for slicing using simpler, and then add the new slices into the same drum rack #1?
@@SoundsAndGear Not ideal, but good to know that it can be done--thanks! Is there an alternative way to group samples into one drum rack that were not all converted at the same time?
Just curious if you think there are any advantages of working in simpler over drum rack? Maybe one isn't necessarily better than the other but what are some of the other options you gain with working with one over the other?

The 9.7 update boasted better sampling workflow for Push 2, so I was hoping for this basic ability to crop loops without using the mouse.
They haven't updated the audio editing, (something I've wanted for years myself) the best way is still with the mouse using alt+click to drag at finer resolution.

Yep, I've been wanting basic audio editing in Live for many years lol, hopefully with Push now being sample focused it will become more of a priority. We're talking basic stuff here imo.
At the very least they could allow you to disable quantize on the start-point using the Push 2. You can precisely adjust the start point on a loop in Simpler, I dont see why they wont let us do the same precision on a normal audio clip loop PS: Ignore if my comment posted like 8 times in a row, my phone showed an error when I submited
yo man, checked out your pushtuts site looks cool. when you gonna have push 2 tuts ready to put up though, cause i won't want to start a months subscription until then?:)
I have a question for you. is there anyway for me to browse through my own sample library in Push 2? The only way I can see it is when I bring up a midi channel. I'd like to be able to bring my sample library up in audio channels and load oneshots/loops etc that way. Is that possible? I have my sample library in ableton now, do I have to move them?
Thanks dude!! That's really awesome of you to give that feedback. I have to say when I bought Push 2 I was a little taken back by it. But I had a friend who is an Ableton Certified Trainer and he gave me a 1 hour lesson and I am really do well with the unit..however! I didn't entirely realize that it's abilities in arrangement view are limited lol..
SoundsAndGear.com I've been trying to import my samples into the user library, they don't show up in the tree when I load up an audio channel in push. When I press browser, the user library comes up - but nothing inside it...
I'd say watch videos on each and form your own opinion, what I see as strengths or weaknesses may not be the same as you, they are just different tools from the hardware workflow to the software they interact with. It ultimately depends on how you work and what you want to do.
+Isham Solaris I've been using Maschine as a plugin in Live for years so it doesn't change much for me other than I can slice/work with audio directly from Push now.
whats good Saint Joe, big fan and subscriber of push/maschine tutorials. i have looked all over and cannot find a solution to this problem. I am new to ableton so i could be missing something simple. But when i am sampling, i want to almost do a loop type sample (pad slice every 1 bar or every 4 bar) i am trying to trigger these slices (full duration) in time with the project ie the metronome. So essential sampling a series of melodic breaks that could be a 4 bar loops. I want this in time with the project so i can add drums on top. Any guidance and response is much appreciated! Even if this is only possible ableton w out push please advise. Thanks. If i find a solution i will post in response to this post.
+SoundsAndGear.com thanks for the prompt response. no I can slice the audio with pad slice myself, the issue is how do play the slices or record it in, on time with the project/metronome. So I know I have 4 different slices all a bar each, I want to play them in order or switch the order doesn't matter, but have them match up with the project so I can lay the drums on top in time
+SoundsAndGear.com this is pretty easily done in FL and considering ableton is way far more advanced in terms of warping audio I hoped there was a way to do this. Push or no push
+SoundsAndGear.com nah, quantize will only put the midi note triggering the slice on the beat or measure. Say I sample a 2 bar loop with 4 chords. I want to sample each chords full length to a individual pad and have them all seemlessly match up when played back. 4 pads that equal a perfect 2 bars
Great video, I just started with making music on P2 and I'm finding out that there's more to it than what meets the eye. MY EGO STRIKES AGAIN. I want to do a sample, and it looked so easy so bought a P2. I'd like to learn how to make a beat. I've been experimenting and I've made a few nice loops and I feeling it better each time I get on it. I DJ and beat matching............So I'm good there, looping and mixing over a loop. I know this sounds really simple but if I can learn how to make an intro, the body, the chorus, the ending, i'd feel like I have a good understanding about P2. Just the beat (Tom, snare, and all the pieces in between), the transitions/breaks, the drum rolls, THEN slice up a track, know what I'm saying? I didn't see one of your videos just on beat making( drums rolls and other combination to transition threw a song). WBR Mont
Thanks for watching man. I'd say just keep messing with it and putting together your music, everyone approaches music creation differently. I generally do not do videos on "how to make a beat" for that reason, I try to focus on functionality and how things work and leave the creativity up to the user :)
I wish Ableton would allow you to use a midi controller knobs to chop samples the same way you can on the Push 2. Like each knob on the midi controller would have a certain feature like the first knob would control the zoom function, the second knob would control the start point, the third knob would control the end point and the four knob would control the nudge feature. I swear if they added this feature that would be game changing.
take a look at AZ-labs.com there you have a max 4 live device with all the great chopping features that offers the new simpler. and you can control it with any controller. also in developement is a real nice timestretching feature, that i tested with him. with it you can stretch in percent instead of only x2 or :2
+SoundsAndGear.com yeah this is exactly it. I think they will redesign, come up with a new screen and make it a bit smaller. But yeah you are right. I love my studio...and use it in live all the time, but without the use of the transport controls in live, it's starting to become annoying. Sometimes keeping it simple actually helps (haha I need to tell myself that more). Kind of think this and komplete kontrol might be just about the best setup you can get right now.
+David Carlyon Man yeah, I mean, all products have to evolve for sure, I use them both together and have for years but with this update Ableton really captures some of what Maschine users have wanted when dealing with audio/samples, especially the fact that it will sync your audio automatically due to Ableton's warping. I'm a gear head so I'm always checking stuff out, and I use what works best. I still prefer the browser in Maschine so I use Maschine as a plugin in Live for my kits and such.
+SoundsAndGear.com yeah. The browser still nails it. And the transport is way better too (if using standalone) but then I also have touchable which is wicked for all that. Ideally I suppose I have been telling myself to just use maschine as a drum maschine for ableton, somewhere I can store all my best samples. But abletons even getting good for that too. The things I don't like about live are - audio editing on arrange view - coming from a pro tools background, it seems real basic and has poor shortcuts. Number 2 is midi...I would way rather write automation with maschine at the moment, either in auto mode or using the step automation
+David Carlyon I honestly don't go to arrange view very often, I love session view, which is why I've always loved live lol. Automation is really straight forward in Live though, I have no problems with it at all.
HEy there.. Just wondering, from the very beginning of the video, you have an audio clip on an audio track by itself (not inside simpler).. the waveform displays on the Push 2. That is not happening for me.. do you have any clue why?? Thank you!
Hi all.. how can I set all 64 pads to different notes, effectively the same as a keyboard, for soft synths, Kontakt 5, etc? e.g.: (2 scale) s16.postimg.org/4v8w1gvl1/scale_2_of_12_1_3_MB.jpg Here is the solution of key/note ordering/mapping on this Picture. Thanks for any answer.......
+PR SoundDesigns If you want the notes to be chromatic you would chance from "in key" to "chromatic" in the scales menu pushtutorials.com/manual/push-2-playing-notes-in-different-scales-keys/
IMO by far the best controller on the market they did a great job way more intuitive than the first Push and all of the 9.5 features are great but.......that display lag when you play pads in drum rack mode is something they need to improve on asap, I didn't expect for it to be a delay when you hit the pads to show what your playing on the screen.
+RD iiO TOTALLY agree about the lag in the display, it makes me feel like I'm playing with latency, even though I'm not, because as you play and watch the lag messes with your brain, at least for me hahahaha.
+SoundsAndGear.com I've been talking back and forth heavy to support and the answer they gave me was "The slight delay ensures smoother and consistent performance" but I'm not buying it that lag shouldn't be its pretty bad in the drum rack mode I feel the same like my timing is off....they sent a reply saying that there is bug that there working on to address but the slight delay would remain which make no sense I think people are getting word of this issue and preventing them from buying it Ableton gotta fix it
+RD iiO Totally agree man, gotta be fixed. Even though it's just visual and seems to be down to the wave redrawing, it impacts the performance for a user.
+SoundsAndGear.com i've been running the latest beta glad to see they added global record for the arrangment view for Push but i'm hoping this lag issue is a top priority for them hate to see that type of issue on a really great product
Unfortunately I think it's the high cost preventing hip hop producers from using Ableton. I've been paying on my setup for 2 years haha but it's worth it. Sticking with touchable for now. Workflow and mobility can't be beaten
+mindalteringfx high cost? I guess compared to Logic but These are the same people who bought MPCs back in the day. Ableton Live is worth it, I remember I paid close to a grand for logic 7. I heard about that touchable app but don't have an iPad
I can't believe they didn't add loop for each slice. This ruined everything for me. I even bought Push2 but I'm selling it cause of this. Really lame that couldn't add such a simple thing.
+Music and life I REALLY wanted that too, totally hope they add that. Would make it super powerful. You can convert to a drum rack and turn on loop for the slices but that's not as fast imo.
I swear ...I regret the money I spent on NI Maschine.....Ableton was a much easier to creative tool for my loop library and the Push controller seem more user friendly.
This is still the best slicing tutorial out there. Thanks.

At the very least they could allow you to disable quantize on the start-point using the Push 2. You can precisely adjust the start point on a loop in Simpler, I dont see why they wont let us do the same precision on a normal audio clip loop
PS: Ignore if my comment posted like 8 times in a row, my phone showed an error when I submited
Totally agree man! And yeah, YT comments are wack these days lol, happens to me as well.
Mate this is so useful, cheers
Glad to help!
Just what I needed. Thank bruh. Next NAMM hope to meet you.
+J Sanders No doubt fam!
What song was that sample from? Sounds familiar
+Yung DreGo A sample from an msxaudio library.
+SoundsAndGear.com oh ok thanks!
+Yung DreGo No problem
Top video ! Really helpful.
Glad to help, thanks for watching!
Perfect! Thanks brotha!

Man that was clear! Thank you!

yo man, checked out your pushtuts site looks cool. when you gonna have push 2 tuts ready to put up though, cause i won't want to start a months subscription until then?:)
+Zayd Bennseer Already have some up, members get it as they come out, but you can wait until the manual is done if you want.
+lairdriver Yes, you need to add your sample library folders to "places" then you can browse your own library.
+lairdriver Yeah, it's really made for session view currently, hopefully some improvements get made for arrangement view control.
SoundsAndGear.com I've been trying to import my samples into the user library, they don't show up in the tree when I load up an audio channel in push. When I press browser, the user library comes up - but nothing inside it...
+lairdriver I'm talking about adding your sample folders under "places" in the Ableton browser.
Is the Push 2 better then Maschine in your opinion?
No, they are both different tools that have their strengths and weaknesses.
I'd say watch videos on each and form your own opinion, what I see as strengths or weaknesses may not be the same as you, they are just different tools from the hardware workflow to the software they interact with. It ultimately depends on how you work and what you want to do.
GAME CHANGER!
+RD iiO Indeed bro!
yup same function as the Elektron gear but 1/2 the cost if you already have a computer!
Ableton touch can produce trap beats like FLstudio?
That's up to the person using it.
very well done, man!
+Jason Zdora Thanks for watching!
Thanks for this video. I would be the first one who ask it here: what's your feeling about it vs. Maschine studio regarding workflow ?
Ableotn doesn't currently snap to specific measures when slicing if that's what you're asking?
+SoundsAndGear.com thanks for the prompt response. no I can slice the audio with pad slice myself, the issue is how do play the slices or record it in, on time with the project/metronome. So I know I have 4 different slices all a bar each, I want to play them in order or switch the order doesn't matter, but have them match up with the project so I can lay the drums on top in time
+SoundsAndGear.com this is pretty easily done in FL and considering ableton is way far more advanced in terms of warping audio I hoped there was a way to do this. Push or no push
Maybe I'm misunderstanding, but sounds like you just need to quantize the notes based on what you want to do? 1/4 notes, 1/16 notes, etc?
+SoundsAndGear.com nah, quantize will only put the midi note triggering the slice on the beat or measure. Say I sample a 2 bar loop with 4 chords. I want to sample each chords full length to a individual pad and have them all seemlessly match up when played back. 4 pads that equal a perfect 2 bars
super helpful!
Glad to help, thanks for watching!
thank you thank you THANK YOU intricate made simple

Great video,
I just started with making music on P2 and I'm finding out that there's more to it than what meets the eye.
WBR
Mont
Thanks for watching man. I'd say just keep messing with it and putting together your music, everyone approaches music creation differently. I generally do not do videos on "how to make a beat" for that reason, I try to focus on functionality and how things work and leave the creativity up to the user :)
I sure will, and I will keep watching as well, the HOW TO videos are fantastic thanks for responding.
No problem fam, thanks for the support!
what is live chopping?
+Courtez Presberry Shown in the vid, it lets you chop by hitting the pads as the sample plays.
Yeah, I think they are more focused on their own controller for this than external ones, it's a pretty big feature of the new Push.
They need to sell Push. If they make it open for any controller, Push loses it's purpose.
Yep
take a look at AZ-labs.com there you have a max 4 live device with all the great chopping features that offers the new simpler. and you can control it with any controller. also in developement is a real nice timestretching feature, that i tested with him. with it you can stretch in percent instead of only x2 or :2
yep, it's a cool script
Man..... I want this! Cool video thx!
+crybo Thanks for watching!
Thank you man

Great job - thanks! Subbed!

Hey bud. Hope your cool. Do you think maschine is finished now? I'm a little bit worried. Haha
+David Carlyon Finished? Nah, but they'll definitely need to come with some nice updates.
Thank you!
You have to be in clip view to see your audio clip.
thanks SO MUCH

Hi all..
how can I set all 64 pads to different notes, effectively the same as a keyboard, for soft synths, Kontakt 5, etc?
e.g.: (2 scale)
s16.postimg.org/4v8w1gvl1/scale_2_of_12_1_3_MB.jpg
Here is the solution of key/note ordering/mapping on this Picture.
Thanks for any answer.......
+PR SoundDesigns If you want the notes to be chromatic you would chance from "in key" to "chromatic" in the scales menu pushtutorials.com/manual/push-2-playing-notes-in-different-scales-keys/
+SoundsAndGear.com some notes are duplicated.... in key and chromatic mode too. I need without duplicates
+PR SoundDesigns Yeah, I misunderstood your question but replied to your email hopefully that helps!
+SoundsAndGear.com thanks, solved in User Mode (by you) and MIDI Effect Rack + Pitch shift Fx +Scale Fx
+PR SoundDesigns cool, glad to help!
+RD iiO No doubt fam
Got yourself a subscriber
+lairdriver Thanks for watching!
Bruuhh! Just whoa
+Jack Spade NO doubt fam
thanx joe2
Thanks for watching!
need this more than Maschine3
+Niko Stone word, this and maschine mk3 def different tools. All in what you're looking for
Been using FL since 2003...I think you've just converted me, man. Lol.
+Zeke Lopez hahahaha nice fam!
FLGanG 4 life niggA!!!
I hope that these new features will get more hip-hop based producers interested in the push 2 and the ableton world.
+ivaren No doubt fam, very smooth.
Nah I kinda like being different, let them keep using Maschine lol
+Jack Spade Ahahahaha lol
Unfortunately I think it's the high cost preventing hip hop producers from using Ableton. I've been paying on my setup for 2 years haha but it's worth it. Sticking with touchable for now. Workflow and mobility can't be beaten
+mindalteringfx high cost? I guess compared to Logic but These are the same people who bought MPCs back in the day. Ableton Live is worth it, I remember I paid close to a grand for logic 7. I heard about that touchable app but don't have an iPad
Yo that's dope!
+Ez Money Beats Indeed, there's more I'd like to see but it's a great start!
Nice bro well said peace

it is a shame that ableton dont allow other midi devices to chop manual like u did in push
thanks for watching
I love you

I can't believe they didn't add loop for each slice. This ruined everything for me. I even bought Push2 but I'm selling it cause of this. Really lame that couldn't add such a simple thing.
+Music and life I REALLY wanted that too, totally hope they add that. Would make it super powerful. You can convert to a drum rack and turn on loop for the slices but that's not as fast imo.
I swear ...I regret the money I spent on NI Maschine.....Ableton was a much easier to creative tool for my loop library and the Push controller seem more user friendly.
Cool, everyone has their own preferences that's why there's so many options. Thanks for watching!
