Very cool. Yes, handy as I do covers. So I bring them in as reference tracks. If the original recording's tempo drifts, is there a way in REAPER to mark its transients and then stretch or move the recordings transients to match the closest tempo? So:1. Import reference track.2. Get tempo as close as I can using process you describe, but then, if it drifts..3. Find reference tracks transients and drag to nearest tempo marker?
Fezzler61 yes. Place a tempo change at the start of the drift and just find the new tempo. This is called making a tempo map and it may be needed from time to time. Thanks for watching.
@@DoctorMcFarlandStudios Sorry to reply to a 6 year old comment but is there a video on this specifically? I'm doing a cover and programming midi but I've hit a road block with a tempo change that's made it really hard to figure out where the midi notes need to be. I just started using reaper a couple years ago so I'm not entirely well versed. If you have any more tips or a video you could link me too I'd much appreciate it
Don't know if it's a recent thing with Reaper, but if you highlight a measure (like you did) and then hover over the 'selection time' info at the bottom right (selection start, selection end, selection time), a help text appears suggesting likely BPM. Handy for when the BPM isn't a whole number.
Lol. Temp map. Im not there yet buddy. I know what it is but its going to take me a while to wrap my head around that again. Im refreshing the basics right now. Its been 2 years without reaper. It is a hell of a lot easier the second time around. Lots of oh ya moment instead of wtf moments.
Im not trying to import a track thank god. Im just trying to set my bpm for a project based off a quick guitar idea I might have recorded. So It doesn't have to be perfect. Just got to get it in the ball park.
Phlop Alopagus i will be releasing more Reaper videos soon and pit them in a playlist. Let me know what other topics in Reaper you have questions about.
Most of it has been done its just there is soooo much its hard to find what your looking even if you know what key words to search with. If you really know the program well I would like to see a complete journey of a Reaper track (good name). Certainly not without editing haha. If some just sat down to either record, edit and master or just edit and master and recorded the big moves of a track that would kick ass. Im currenty trying to use one of the extra buttons on my mouse to be able to scroll up and down on the TCP. As it is now it just widens the TCP (I hate keyboard shortcut is why). Hmm a complete chapter on convenience hasnt been done.
Thanks for the tut, but when I place the curser over the bpm box and use the scroll wheel ...mine jumps to the next time line and is not smooth like yours, I have disabled the jump to next line thingy but it still does not scroll smoothly like in your video. Thanks again for your tutorial.
Hey man , loved the video , super easy to understand . I have a problem tho . How can i adjust the project time without a mouse ? I am currently working on a laptop and do not have a mouse . I dont know what to do after placing the cursor over the BPM meter . Please reply asap . Thank you
David De Menezes/Anuraag Gawhale Project hmmm that is a good question. Just keep typing in the bpm until you get it lined up. If the lines are getting closer to the downbeat of your wav then you know you are getting in the ballpark and the fine tune it till it is exact.
Ive tried doing this , but for some reason the entire session slows down .I thik the project is synched to the metronome . Any way to get around this ? Also , thank you for the speedy rreply
David De Menezes/Anuraag Gawhale Project you can also add a marker on the downbeat of measure two so you have a reference where your tempo will line up to.
David De Menezes/Anuraag Gawhale Project you have to go to project settings and change the grid from tempo to beats. Or vice versa. I think I talk about that in the video.
I just made another video demonstrating the difference between Time and Beats in the Project settings. Let me know if you have any other questions. ruclips.net/video/Er-NejWvP0A/видео.html
Hi from Spain. Thanks for the explanation! The problem is when the bpm's change slightly along the song. I dont know why. Maybe due to the compress or render process or something like that. This sometimes happens (at least in drumless songs which are the ones I use to practice). Any solution? Thanks again!
Greetings. My band Feedback Revival tour Europe back in 2014 and played 10 shows in Spain. It was beautiful. If you find that the tempo drifts through the song and you want to keep that intact then you just need to keep adding tempo markers and readjust the tempo. I had to do this on a project last year. I had to create a tempo map for the whole song basically but it did make it easier to record to. Let me know if you have any more questions.
Yes. Coruña, Ourense,... ;) And you were already in Spain in 2013, i think! Cangas, no? I hope you've enjoyed in my country. what concerns to tempo drifts, i've done it in a couple of songs, adding tempo markers and readjusting the tempo but it tooks me a lot of time (more than 4 hours per song........).
So, can I somehow use this method to tap bpm via a drumpad? I'd Iike to know how to do that in order to control reaper in a live setting in an intuitive mouseless way.

What about simple midi drum beats?
MIDI should conform to the tempo you have it at. If you change the tempo of the session then the MIDI will stretch to reflect that change.
