It's been a while since I watched the anime or read the manga, but this anime has one of the best relationship developments you could ever want to see. When kotoko asked him out, she said something along the lines of "you could look for something else other than your type, so that's me" , a change in perspective of your type can clear up your mind a lot. In the end of the anime he called her "the most beautiful flower he's seen" I think. Neither the anime or the manga played it like an offhand joke, it was a very serious and heartfelt moment, unlike the part where he says "if I could choose a future without you, I would". At this point In the story he's not denying dating her and those jokes are normal with enough trust among partners. Openly asking for affection, is asking to be mocked in good faith in a trustworthy relationship, which he constantly does. Stating that you think other women are hot or they're cute is also normal, and may seem weird but it's something everyone does, married couples often have crushes on someone else, openly admitting it and accepting it it's a part of emotional maturity, because they won't take action at all. The fact is that these two people are very emotionally mature to the point that they love and care for each other because they understand each other very well, leading to these interactions.
Using the manga as a basis, funnily enough, we...don't really know like, EVER what's in Kuro's mind, which is hilarious because we both have a pletora of demonstrations of affection that comes from him that are always played as very casual when they're by themselfs, but always seems to surprise other characters That kinda culminates into some of the most recent chapters, in which (spoilers), Rikka states to Iwanaga that, the only reason she'd never hurt her, is because she fears what Kuro would do to her if she'd come to even lay a finger on Iwanaga The lack of insight on Kuro's thoughts seems to be on purpose, the story mostly follows Iwanaga, soo her doubts about Kuro are also supposed to be ours, that is, probably, also the reason she's soo...uh...exagerated? On how she acts, she fears he has problems ataching to people because his immortality, which is probably true, and basically acts as a caricature of herself to try and get him closer to her
