The writers weren’t really cooking when it came to continuity……..or storytelling for that matter Journeys had to rely on decades worth of adventures and stories but most of it was fanservice and cameos which might’ve been the point but still pretty weak

Ash being taken away by the ship after an emotional moment with Serena is meant to parallel the ending of XY with Serena being taken away by the escalator after her emotional moment with Ash. Also note how the episode, Serena spent the time bonding with Koharu yet the moment she saw Ash, she completely focused on him and Ash is the one to answer the question of how they knew each other and Serena just gives a passing encouraging comment to Koharu while she was more enthuastic about supporting Ash 7. Serena telling Ash she'll be the best performer if he's going to be the best battler which is meant add to Serena's comment of "being a more charming lady" to him or in other words be Ash's equal in their respective fields 8. Serena literally stayed at the dock until the sun went down and the streetlights came on as she watched Ash sail away, why would Serena do that if she didn't have feelings for him? 9. The green streetlights are a reference to the Great Gatsby where if you see a greenlight, your wish will come true along with the meaning of seeing into your lover's mind or rekindling love 10. Sylveon's Pokedex entries mention it can feel the emotions of it's trainer and after Ash has sailed so far away, Sylveon is looking at Serena with a concerned expression on her face as if sensing Serena's emotions before she finally leaves the dock. They were subtle clues but throughout the episode and the short interaction they had, it's still heavily implied if not obvious that Serena is still very much into Ash. Just after maturing in Hoenn, she's not the shy blushing mess about it now.

The Japanese creator of Pokemon confirmed in an interview that Misty and Ash were never meant to be a couple. It’s something the English dub aka 4Kids, that was notorious for f*cking with a lot of anime, added in, Misty always kinda had a crush on Ash ever since they met, despite their bad intro. When they finally went their own ways, Misty even had a song (at least in the English dub) that she really loved him, and he reacted similarly to this scene. For a while a lot of OG fans shipped them, but there’s also a lot that ship Serena with Ash instead, because this was an intentional plot. In comparison to Misty who was supposed to be nothing more than his best friend considering how much she and Brock traveled with him. Personally I like Misty a lot more, Serena’s always came off as a one sided love and Ash only liked her as a friend, nothing more
pokemon xy was an almost perfect anime for me, then they ruined the kalos finals, serena left the show and the next season when down the drain both in tone and animation.
I don’t hate Serena but I find her to be overrated because her character felt forced by the writter, being written as a love interest to Ash coming out nowhere. Her knowing Ash from childhood is a redcon, and when a character is written to be a love interest from the start, there wont be much room for complex character growth added into her character. It’s not just nostalgia I promised, but I prefer Ash’s relationship with Misty more. Misty was not written to be Ash’s love interest, and their first meeting was a hot mess. They didn’t have the best chemistry at first (man that guy fried her overpriced cerulean bike), but they developed their friendship throughout the show. Misty also started to develop genuine care for Ash as a friend, and more than a friend after. Love that sparks from friendship will always have more depth and meaning, than someone who admires a person from the get-go, because without the motivation of romantic feelings, Misty developed a pure genuine platonic care and love from Ash. So there’s more depth when I see her relationship with Ash, and how they changed each other for the better, and how Ash contributed in Misty becoming a competent gym leader.

At the moment I’m on XYZ but, that was thier only interaction in the whole series of Journeys I don’t understand it. It's the people who ship Ash with Serena are the ones who obsess over the notion that he got kissed, and are always the ones who insist that it was on the lips, hence why "if he got kissed, it definitely wasn't on the lips" is even a response. 10. Sylveon's Pokedex entries mention it can feel the emotions of it's trainer and after Ash has sailed so far away, Sylveon is looking at Serena with a concerned expression on her face as if sensing Serena's emotions before she finally leaves the dock.
They were subtle clues but throughout the episode and the short interaction they had, it's still heavily implied if not obvious that Serena is still very much into Ash. Just after maturing in Hoenn, she's not the shy blushing mess about it now.

Im from the outside looking in as im out of touch with Pokemon, but i thought he and Misty were a thing. I don't recall Serena in the beginning of the series, and where was she when Ash set off on his journey? Was she created just to be a love interest?
She wasn’t made until XY. They just added that story in when the XY anime started.
The Japanese creator of Pokemon confirmed in an interview that Misty and Ash were never meant to be a couple. It’s something the English dub aka 4Kids, that was notorious for f*cking with a lot of anime, added in, Misty always kinda had a crush on Ash ever since they met, despite their bad intro. When they finally went their own ways, Misty even had a song (at least in the English dub) that she really loved him, and he reacted similarly to this scene. For a while a lot of OG fans shipped them, but there’s also a lot that ship Serena with Ash instead, because this was an intentional plot. In comparison to Misty who was supposed to be nothing more than his best friend considering how much she and Brock traveled with him. Personally I like Misty a lot more, Serena’s always came off as a one sided love and Ash only liked her as a friend, nothing more

I don’t hate Serena but I find her to be overrated because her character felt forced by the writter, being written as a love interest to Ash coming out nowhere. Her knowing Ash from childhood is a redcon, and when a character is written to be a love interest from the start, there wont be much room for complex character growth added into her character.
It’s not just nostalgia I promised, but I prefer Ash’s relationship with Misty more. Misty was not written to be Ash’s love interest, and their first meeting was a hot mess. They didn’t have the best chemistry at first (man that guy fried her overpriced cerulean bike), but they developed their friendship throughout the show. Misty also started to develop genuine care for Ash as a friend, and more than a friend after. Love that sparks from friendship will always have more depth and meaning, than someone who admires a person from the get-go, because without the motivation of romantic feelings, Misty developed a pure genuine platonic care and love from Ash. So there’s more depth when I see her relationship with Ash, and how they changed each other for the better, and how Ash contributed in Misty becoming a competent gym leader.
They did her dirty I haven’t watched all of journeys yet because I’m rewatching them all. At the moment I’m on XYZ but, that was thier only interaction in the whole series of Journeys I don’t understand it. Like they just left and didn’t catch up or anything romantic …why do that to the story it just ruined it.
