Yes, we used cover more, and had to claim when we were stuck in Bali for 2-3 additional weeks when volcano erupted in Nov 2015. They were great, we got most of the extra costs refunded for accommodation, food, extra flights, been using them for every trip since.
I have travel insurance with my NAB credit card. Have claimed once for a volcano eruption and once for flight cancellation due to unable to get to airport because of floods. Played out both times.
Oh my goodness such a shock to see this video and the clear anxiety you were feeling with Karen suddenly taking ill, such a scary thing. We’ve just gone through an episode of sudden emergency illness, ambo, hospital and operation so have an idea at the panic you must have felt. So relieved to know now that she has greatly improved. Are you any the wiser to the actual cause? Sending hugs to you both.
@@daniellerichard1385 hi thanks the doctors really didn’t give a proper diagnosis , they said it could have been several things It was scary when Karen fell unconscious several times
Awww Karen, hope she is feeling much better. Khao Takiab is our favourite area of Hua Hin. There is also a large expat community in Soi 88 and Soi 94 on other side of railway line behind Market Village.
Same Sudden illness hit me there in May 2024. Spent 4 days in the same Hospital. You will get well looked after and the food is OK too. I had RotaVirus as the locals fertilise Lettuce and vegies with water/manure mix to make it grow faster & greener. Doesn't get washed properly and you end up eating it. Don't eat the garnish or the little side salad that comes with your food. Was only there a week and didn't get to see the sites. Good luck......
Can really relate to medical issues/illnesses, dengue/malaria in Asia. Never had insurance but will now. had to go to Bangkok hospital in Hua Hin once a few years ago during one of our many trips to Hua Hin, the treatment there was so much better than going to an emergency room in Australia. Glad to hear Karen is on the mend, sounds like one of the worst places to feel unwell with all the steps at that look out
Two years ago in Phuket novo virus went through the place, everyone was getting it, hospitals were full never been so sick worst gastro i've ever had, ruined the holiday 5 days in bed! Take care guys.
Another good Episode Richard - We hope Karen is on the mend soon Hua Hin looks great and hopefully we will be there in a few months (currently choking in the Da Nang air) When we started travelling we had Insurance through our CC for the first six months but as we don't have a return ticket to Australia we now pay for a standalone insurance each time we enter a new country (yes its expensive)
@@roamingRichard Its having a good day 🙂 PM2.5 concentration is only currently 8 times the World Health Organisation annual PM2.5 guideline value at 112 (for reference Sydney is 19)
As soon as you book a flight your next step should be to purchase travel insurance…As you say it’s very important as I’ve seen some horror story’s even when people do have travel insurance…Glad to hear Karen’s better…Wow getting her down those stairs would of been hard…

Glad shes ok and yes I never travel overseas Without insurance Very important I drink pocari sweat daily in thailand as the humidity is higher than bali Agree I use bolt app
Sorry to hear that Karen had taken ill, nothing worse than having something like that happen in a place you're not familiar with. Glad she's on the mend and you guys have travel insurance. So so important. I found out twice, once in Bali my wife broke her leg and had to be flown home to Australia, and also in America when a transfer car left with a bag that had my wife's medications in. We were due to do a cruise the following day at 1:00pm and had to run around trying to get new scripts and get them filled, luckily the car came back the next morning and said are you missing a bag. So we cancelled the scripts and everything was good. Always count how many bags you take. It was a black bag in a dark boot at night, so it was a panic, but all good in the end.
Which travel insurance do you guys have? We are thinking of getting the health insurance in Thailand for our extended stay as it’s cheaper then out of Australia.
Did your travel insurance guarantee costs upfront to the hospital, so you didn't have to pay anything? That is also important, particularly if it is very expensive treatment.
When you travel do you have Travel Insurance and if so have you had to use it ?
