Very nice review and set-up. I have the AIM ECU instead of the Vortex because the Vortex was on backorder when I was in the market. I think I'm happy about that because I'm happy with my bike's throttle. I have a map switch for the full power race map and the single track map. The single track map is what I use for woods riding and it does make it much better for that. My bike is probably off road 60% and 40% pavement because I use it as my light ADV bike and occasional commuter. I have a Beta XTrainer for technical single track. I think we both like the CRF450L for the same reasons. It's nice to see there's someone else who appreciates the subframe and hasn't ditched the stock tail piece.

Sounds like a great setup! I think I would also prefer a map switch on my handlebar, but the option wasn't there when I bought my bike and I'm not sure how much of an upgrade there would be in switching ECUs again. Funny, I keep looking at the tail on the subframe and I know it's a little large, but just don't see a big enough reason to cut it up. If I do a tail tidy, I might have to tidy up the rest of the bike 🙂!

Love this bike! I just ordered the scaggs rack yesterday, something I've been wanting for a while but they were out or stock.
I will recommend the AS tower for the reason you said, a good sturdy mount for your tablet and keeps it out of wind and rain (when moving). Also I have USB QC and 12V connectors. I live in the desert and do a lot of long rides so I went with the Nomad 20L tank which has been great!. This bike sucks in tight technical as it's essentially a race bike but anything with speed this thing is a dream. Look forward to what your do next to this fine machine.

AS tower has been installed! I have done about 500 miles (mostly trail of course) with it on. It is slightly distracting, but you get used to it. I love having the large screen GPS centered right in front of me. I love being able to tuck into the wind protection when it's cold and I need to get down a long stretch at speed.

Can’t believe there isn’t more likes - fantastic practical experienced information. I’m from NE WI and hit the UP on sleds. Apparently I need to get there on a bike now. Thanks for posting.

Thanks for the kudos! As you know the UP is not what most would consider "exciting" riding, but counter arguments are plenty of trails and cool spring/fall riding! We love to hit some of the more challenging terrain on the east coast, but I always hate to see my bike tumbling down a failed hill climb!!

Maybe I missed it, there is a throttle tamer that i hear people recommend. And you can get a hydraulic clutch also. I also hear the vortex is good but there are some newer options that do a better job. Maybe you can sell the vortex. Just some hopefully helpful thoughts I had from my research, i cant wait to get this bike.

Thanks for the comment! I did not do the hydraulic clutch, however I did purchase the Vortec ECU and modified my throttle tube. I've been running this for a while and it does make a difference. Also, I went with the JD module before the Vortec and it didn't fix the twitchy throttle. The Vortec will still flame out from time to time as well. I'll have to make a vid to talk about what I did. Now I'll have to remember what I did. :-)

Try a touch of honey on the ram mount, worked for my double takes. Did you say if you had a G2 throttle tamer?

Hey thanks, I'll try that! I also heard scratching it up with sandpaper would help. I do NOT have the G2. I modified my throttle with a dremel and it helps a little.
