    I'm in Southwest Florida (near Ft Myers in Lee county)... and although I've been gardening for almost 10 years, I still consider myself to be a complete fruit tree novice. I'm so happy I found your channel. I subscribed & look forward to hearing all your other information.... thanks for passing along your experience & knowledge!

      I use gia green glacial rock dust, meals (such as blood/bone/fish), worm compost from my worm bins, or, if I need to re-fill raised beds (or start new beds) I'll grab a load of high quality horticulture grade compost from local company MW Horticulture Recycling Facility Inc. Their stuff is incredible.

    so true on the nitrogen overuse for mango's...though some use nitrogen sulfate in lieu of potassium sulfate (when attempting to spur blooming--I am more organic myself). Though tropicals can vary a bit there. eg., more nitrogen ok for starfruit, I believe. And yes on nutrients, though here in the West, I would discourage much use of azomite, etc. The key here has more to do with properly "accessing" the nutrients already present in our soil, as pH is much higher here & drainage typically much lower...for you, much more applicable ! I can certainly see why some of those less sustainable nutrients are harder to find...again, more applicable for you--more of a waste for us (plus, azomite adds a salt and in very minor amts, elements that may not be needed and a few that are more radioactive). Great Share, Pete !

    I only use my chicken manure, to process it I put it in a pile when I clean the coop. And it sits there until I'm ready to fertilize. That's all you need, and its actually organic, no "approvals" needed.

    • @PeteKanarisGreenDreamsFL
      @PeteKanarisGreenDreamsFL  6 лет назад +3

      StevieJoes unfortunately we don't have enough chickens to feed our system. The material from the chicken coop feeds 100 bananas within a few hundred feet and doesn't go much further.

    Pete , have you thought about processing your chicken manure in some way for your nursery ? I put mine in a compost bin but was wandering if there were any other way to use it.
    On another note , I was on your site and was wandering if you sold the "Ice cream" banana tree. I did not see it on your site but I thought you had them on your farm. Thanks.

    • @PeteKanarisGreenDreamsFL
      @PeteKanarisGreenDreamsFL  6 лет назад +3

      Ron Hart yes if we had more chickens we would. Right now we use that on all the bananas around the coop.

    • @kiwiwriter
      @kiwiwriter 6 лет назад +2

      I use the chooks bedding straight under fruit trees normally throw mulch over it if close to neighbors. Yep, bananas'll take it. Got really good results with Taro too. Have bananas slightly uphill of Taro feed the bananas and the Taro will thrive on runoff. Can grow coffee well under the Taro too. We get high rainfall here...

      Pete Kanaris GreenDreamsFL Thanks for the response! I love your channel and the work you do. I ordered some plants from your online store and I'm absolutely stoked. Anyway back to what I was typing, at the moment I'm unable to grab a bag of sustain so I'm going to try Gaia Green 2-8-4 organic soil amendments, Azomite, Green sand. With occasional watering in with beneficial bacteria. For my finger lime I was going to try biolive 5-4-2, Azomite and green sand again with some beneficial bacteria. Just wanted to get an expert opinion before hand. Thanks again!

    • @PeteKanarisGreenDreamsFL
      @PeteKanarisGreenDreamsFL  6 лет назад

      Shane Millard greensand is a naturally occurring iron-potassium silicate that can increase soil moisture absorption by up to 10 times. It also contains 30 trace minerals. I'm looking at some other products now, one called Carbonatite looks pretty good.

  • @rawmark
    @rawmark 6 лет назад +8

    I do not feed any of my fruit trees with animal based products. They don't need them. I do all veganic fertilization. So this would include rock minerals, sea agri sea minerals, vermicompost, and any other healthy non animal fertilizer. My plants have never been happier. Why? Mainly because of sea agri. And if you're only liming yourself to a few minerals, which you are based on this video, then please look up sea agri and the work the man behind sea agri did. Sea minerals have more than 90 trace minerals. So why give your plants just a few when you can hit them once or twice a month with 90+? With this, you won't need to add a 464 fertilizer because your trees won't need it.

    • @veganchiefwarrior6444
      @veganchiefwarrior6444 6 лет назад +3

      is that because you are vegan and you dont want to contribute your money to places that kill or slave animals? sounds pretty decent and morally justified and normal to me lol i just use my urine and compost atm

    • @rawmark
      @rawmark 6 лет назад +2

      Worms = Animals so vermicompost = animal exploitation??

    • @rawmark
      @rawmark 6 лет назад +1

      Not really because we are not exploiting them for their fur skin, bones, etc. We are simply harvesting something that they produce and worms are going to make compost whether we provide food for them or not. So there really is no exploiitation involved. What animal have you ever heard of that is exploited for it's crap? See, just saying it almost makes one laugh.

    • @garrycole9187
      @garrycole9187 5 лет назад

      Mark, hopefully you will reply, but went to web site of sea agri and it is really not a stand alone fertilizer, it may replace the azomite and green sand because it will replace all the minerals that those two provides, but it is not a big enough source of NPK so you would need the vermicompost but not the rock minerals if I am understanding what they are saying about the product and the reviews on amazon. This is all you need in supplements but you still need a main fertilizer to give you enough NPK if that is right?
