@Bob C I think people don't get it -- Hooker is a longer striker with more angles, and Conor facing a southpaw means that the concept of lead-foot dominance being absent will make it ten times harder to set up his left cross. He uses his jab/right hook as a range finder, and he's done it against southpaws for so long, by now, people know the left is going to follow (Khabib and Chad Mendes circled to the left to avoid it), kinda like Mirko's left high-kick.

Just came across your channel. I wish I knew about it earlier. This is a really comprehensive look at young Dustin. Kid is a master striker. Thank you for taking the time to put this together.
Dustin is also really good at shifting his weight on the fence and in the pocket. starting at 16:21 the second exchange his more exaggerated, but he generates so much force with just proper weight shifting. Its fantastic
Every fight he’s been in (barring khabib) has been an absolute barn burner where he pulls through. Salon Quality Poirier is one of the best fighters on earth
Have to look at him as one of the greatest strikers of all time at this point. He doesn't really look spectacular like some of the others but his toughness and feel for the fights have got him very far. Not sure anyone else turns it on like he does when he feels his opponent is hurt.
@@keithtreco8851 Gaethje was landing hard kicks effectively to Dustin's legs if you see full matches instead of seeing highlights where Dustin looks good. To not mention Gaethje's kicks is just ignorant
It's a cool breakdown, but it could've been simplified. It was his salon hair and it looks so damn good, that really was the breakthrough in his career.
imagine if right after the first poirier-mcgegor fight, someone told you that one day he would have luscious hair and beat the piss out of mcgregor. You'd think they were crazy
Dustin is probably the best lightweight at the moment. He beat Gaethje, he beat McGregor, he beat Holloway, he beat Hooker. I know he lost to Khabib, but everyone loses to Khabib, so it almost doesn't count. If he fights Ferguson and beats him too then he'd certainly be in the talks of the best lightweight currently.
2nd best LW in history 8/9 (loss to Khabib 1 NC with 7/9 performance/FOTN bonuses) having beaten 5 former champions and several top contenders. Dude is a legend and the best active LW in the world. Oliveira is dangerous but Poirier wins that fight 7/10 times. No one game plans better than this man except Khabib. He took Hooker’s soul that night. They both fought again on the same card and I’m pretty sure Hooker literally got hit once and just disintegrated whereas Poirier, who took a fair amount of damage vs Hooker, beat some Irish retiree.
Frankie Edgar is the second best lightweight ever, I don't think he'd of beaten Poirier, Gaethje or maybe Ferguson but he had a fantastic resume and was Champ while being undersized.
Poirier vs Hooker is probably one of the most overlooked fights in lightweight history,it was amazing!

"Salon quality hair" .. Could you imagine how good DP would be if he grew long hair?
He's like the opposite of Brian Ortega in that regard.
He is the UFC version of Samson
Super Saiyan basically
Dustin’s power from both sides and the changes he made defensively were what changed his game so much. AND NEW!!! 💎💎💎💎💎💎💎💎💎💎
His precision is almost unmatched
How can you not love this guy? Tough as nails fighter, great human outside of the cage too, and so genuine and not fake at all. You can just tell that he is who he says he is
The song beginning at 1:43 is called Unknown Brain & Hoober - Phenomenon (ft. Dax & VinDon) for anyone wondering
Thanks man :)
Just came across your channel. I wish I knew about it earlier. This is a really comprehensive look at young Dustin. Kid is a master striker. Thank you for taking the time to put this together.
The strike he rocked Eddie with 9:32 was sensational 👏
dude really took the nickname "Diamond" to heart. One of my favortie fighters too watch and root for ever
Dustin is also really good at shifting his weight on the fence and in the pocket. starting at 16:21 the second exchange his more exaggerated, but he generates so much force with just proper weight shifting. Its fantastic
The editing and commentary was great 👍 loved the video keep it going
Man Holloway has one of the best chins ever.
Finally someone made a video ode to his striking. I’ve always argued for him being one of the best, most underrated and most dangerous strikers
Every fight he’s been in (barring khabib) has been an absolute barn burner where he pulls through. Salon Quality Poirier is one of the best fighters on earth
@Jay 24 he didnt have hair tho
@Jay 24 was he salon quality at that point? Actually curious about that skin head Poirier was nowhere near the fighter Salon quality is
Mind boggling that you have so few subscribers. Some of the best mma content on this app! 👍🏽
My favorite fighter, Dustin "The Diamond" Poirier.
A great tecnical brawler, he is always amazing to watch
Have to look at him as one of the greatest strikers of all time at this point. He doesn't really look spectacular like some of the others but his toughness and feel for the fights have got him very far. Not sure anyone else turns it on like he does when he feels his opponent is hurt.
4:20 “not his best work” this man sets the bar HIGH 💀💀💀💀
**Dustin loads bunch of combinations on Gaethjes body and head**
DC: Gaethje has to be the best leg kicker bro lol
🤣🤣🤣
@@keithtreco8851 Gaethje was landing hard kicks effectively to Dustin's legs if you see full matches instead of seeing highlights where Dustin looks good. To not mention Gaethje's kicks is just ignorant
@Jay 24 nobody denies that, but justin threw alot of powerful kicks as well
Best thing about dustin is he always come back stronger and better
He is freaking Jax Briggs from Mortal Kombat, that explains those fast punches
Dustin’s accuracy with his hands are too good and amazing to watch 🙏🏼
Unpopular opinion: Dustin is the best boxer in the UFC
It's a cool breakdown, but it could've been simplified. It was his salon hair and it looks so damn good, that really was the breakthrough in his career.
Would love to see poirier vs calvin kattar that would a freakin master class in striking
Nope him versus McGregor is the one
zabit vs poirier also.. both very in boxing
This was a great video. Thank you!
imagine if right after the first poirier-mcgegor fight, someone told you that one day he would have luscious hair and beat the piss out of mcgregor. You'd think they were crazy
Great video man. Make some more like this please.!
Dustin is the perfect example "your not born to be something... With hard work and determination you can become anything"
His boxing and footwork is so smooth.
Dustin is an OG ! He's been in the UFC for a long time and has been getting better after every win and loss; especially after that Khabib loss.
He keeps getting better at fighting. It’s amazing.
Gotta say Dustin has improved alot
cool to see that EVERY FUCKING FIGHT of poirier is a war worth of highlights, my man is a diamond for sure, made to shine!
Grispi was never the same after the Diamond broke him
This Video is so well done.
I feel like fighting Dustin, The Enemy feels like they are being attacked by a Bee Hive! They just cover up and get stung from every angle!
One of the most tactical and technical boxers in the Light-Weight Division.
🥊🥊
Dustin is probably the best lightweight at the moment. He beat Gaethje, he beat McGregor, he beat Holloway, he beat Hooker. I know he lost to Khabib, but everyone loses to Khabib, so it almost doesn't count. If he fights Ferguson and beats him too then he'd certainly be in the talks of the best lightweight currently.
Poirier has very very very hard shots as well, like the power he generates in his punches is mad.
El Diamante 💎
Dustin doesnt need any fancy unorthodox stance or repertoire . He just does basic stuff but in the highest level . The Diamond
