Hurricane Sandy pushing water over Manhattan seawall

Hurricane Sandy is expected to make landfall in New Jersey tonight, but the massive storm is already being felt in New York City. Vinita Nair reports from Lower Manhattan.

this set records everywhere in NY/NJ as far as water levels, NY kind of got lucky, not in 718-212 land as far as water coming up but it never really rained here, that easily would have made it a lot worse to deal with

I’m not sure if it’s the fact that I’ve been through worse hurricanes 🌀 but sandy was a breeze. I was outside drinking my Dunkin’ Donuts coffee and enjoying that breeze. 🤷🏽‍♀️. I was in queens nyc at that time.

@@gabrielam2795 the worst storm to affect new york was the 1938 great new england hurricane which made landfall in long island, NY as a catagory 3 killing 800 in the process. One of a number of active hurricane seasons that made the 1930s great depression even worse, most notably the 1935 labor day hurricane
