It breaks my heart watching him perform during his last years. Like Lynott, you only had to look at him to see he wasn't well. Rest in Peace Rory.
Yeah i agree. He gained so much weight. It’s sad to see a true legend fall apart.
Just enjoy....
dont judge...
@@jamesallen278 so did my dog and wife... and I lost my hair etc...
for me he still amazing
The brightest flame always burns the shortest....
We lost this monster of a guitar player way too young.
Incredible legacy and thanks to youtube, we can watch him time and time again.
I'll never tire of watching Rory play.
RIP boss.
Yea buddy
His energy was much less.
Alcohol is a demon to some...
You can see he was really starting to balloon up at this point. He can still play great though but what this was doing to his liver along with paracetamol later, what a shame.
He was getting chubby and starting to lose the battle here, but he was still one of the, if not the, best blues rockers around. Only 8 years later he was gone. RIP our friend Rory
HE WAS GETTING CHUBBY..ALCOHOL WAS HIS ENEMY BUT WHY WAS HE SO HARD DRINKING? I CARRY HIM IN MY HEART .GREETINGS FROM GREECE
@@lillyk2315 Lilly, Rory's drs were giving him steroids for pain in his hands. That, combined with alcohol, even in smaller amts was dangerous. Steroids are notorious for swelling & presentation of a "moon- face appearance". Why his family or those who traveled with him didn't step in to intervene, we don't know. Perhaps, as private as Rory was, he was unwilling to discuss his problems. It's still a mystery & a terrible loss to us & the music world. By the time he sought help at the hospital his liver was failing. The drs told him a liver transplant was the only hope which he did get. But during recovery from the surgery he developed MRSA, a serious infection, & it killed him...47 yrs old😥.
@@GWard-hz5wj Thanks for your infos about Rory. How I wish he was here among us.... The end of his life was so heartbeaking....so sad.I think that he is now in paradise, free from his pains.🌹
@GWard-hz5wj I wonder what type of steroids he was given because I've been on steroids for autoimmune conditions, and I don't remember the requirement not to drink alcohol.
I wish I had got to see Rory Gallagher live.
He had 🙏,unique place❤.here in Greece 🇬🇷🫶🔥We all know that! Righ? e@@lillyk2315
Rory G the gaelic genius, not enough superlatives to describe this man.The master, sorely missed but forever in our hearts, RIP my friend ☘
Us Rory fans have this man in our hearts forever Lee Hambleton from Sheffield
Saw Rory in 75, sat right in front of him at the Bayou in Georgetown, near DC, He was as gracious as can be & was as good as anyone I saw play back in the70s, Rory never compromised his music for stardom or commercialism, He simply was one of the best . Rock on Rory you will always be remembered by those with rock n roll hearts...
Paul I agree, except that The Bayou is in an area of Northwest Washington, D.C. that is known as Georgetown. So...in DC...not "near", as you put it.
he just played to play and rocked to rock, love him
Damn right!
Legends like Rory never ever die, they live on and on.
i was born in 87' why i discover Gallagher so late :(
this should be played in radio tv and others media this is true music no commercial piece of crap!
Yup Rory wasn't about commercial music he was about the music he disbanded the taste because they tried to make him commercialized he wasn't going to have any part of that. RIP. RORY.
Rory Gallagher is like jimi Hendrix Eric Clapton beatles' Bob Dylan pink Floyd etc etc all rolled in ONE . He is classic example of World isn't fair thing . Though he was the best he never got recognition he deserved .. people are discovering him now . He never accepted commercial scene of music industry then to become famous . He was star among his true sensible fans .. I wish World knew about him more then that how he was so better than any so called rockstar musician .
Your comments are spot on everything you said about Rory is how I describe him when I talk to people about him he always had a big hardcore following but more people are starting to discover and appreciate Rory thanks to youtube and Internet greatest of all time in my opinion
He sold 30 million albums so a fair few knew about him. Purists, he's unbelievable!
My nephew tried to get me into Rory in the seventies ,but I was into csn&y at the time
Boy do I regret not taking him in , now I can’t get enough of him and he is the best ever
No one can come close to this humble Irish man , RIP big man we will meet you down
The road
GREATEST PLAYER OF ALL TIME! He inspired to me to become the best I could be; & l will keep learning & playing his music as long as l'm here!! LOVE & MISS YOU RORY. Belinda🎸💞⭐️💔🎼
+Belinda Drake
Exactly Belinda! He inspires me too. After listening to him when I walk through the door of my home, I immediately am ready to give my piano lessons all I've got and than some! This beautiful performer is definitely #1....!!
+Belinda Drake one of the greatest not the greatest
I only found abaut Taste and Rory Gallagher and he's become my favorite guitar player songwriter is songwriting a spectacular. ..
Dork
"Speaking about Gallagher's Stratocaster purchase, his brother Dónal recalled: "His dream ambition was to have a guitar like Buddy Holly. This Stratocaster was in the store as a used instrument, it was 100 pounds. In today's money you couldn't even compare; you might as well say it was a million pounds. My mother was saying we'll be in debt for the rest of our lives and Rory said, 'Well, actually with a guitar like this I can play both parts, rhythm and lead, we won't need a rhythm player so I can earn more money and pay it off.' So the Stratocaster became his partner for life if you like."
What a beautiful anecdote about his main.
to answer the questions a bit, he was on uppers and downers, exactly the same crap as Elvis had and he was drinking just his fair share.Imagine going in and out of planes every fucking day, traveling all around, he was and the band also a hard working band, only going home for Christmas.....go figure.... that is going to hunt you at some point. I would recommend reading the biographies
He never stopped playing. Rory was a true artist and believed in what he was doing
Saw him in St.Louis around the late eighties and he rocked like no other.
Extra fine blues player. Damn he's missed. Seems like the best are
gone too soon. RIP Rory and SRV.
my two favorites, SRV and Rory. titans of riffage. god rest their souls
Couldn’t agree more!! Taken way too soon! Brilliant player! Rest In Peace, Rory Gallagher!!
Having a Rory day. 25 years ago today we lost one of the all-time great guitarists. I'm not a big fan of funerals but my girlfriend dragged me down to St Oliver's cemetery in Cork, to pay my respects. 25 years later, I'm glad I did. Legend.
Rory Gallagher is the Guitarist by which all others are Judged... Period
Agreed.... Wholeheartedly...
Totally agree
Hendrix said ask Rory. How it feels to be #1 guitarist? Rolling Stone.
The man is an angel
I love ALL of Mr. Gallagher's performances. He's one of the greatest entertainers of all time. May he rest in peace or continue his journey playing his guitars.
Pure awesome mega magic!!!! Wowww!!!😊💪💪🎶🎶👍👍👍👍
Wish I had lived already back then!! Discovered his super awesome music cuz of records my granddad has!
But he told me Rory is dead.
Died in 1995..😕😕😕😕
Such a loss 4 the music world!!!...
That's 5 years be4 I was born!!😲😲
The Greatest n Best guitarist I've ever heard!!!!🎶🎶🎶👍👍👍
Now I'm definitely a fan!!!💪💪💪👍👍👍🎶🎶🎶🎶
Whooooohooooo!!🎶🎶🎶
1.
During Mr. R. Gallagher (r.i.p.) entire career he gave it all on the stage
2.
Bless Mr. R. Gallagher (r.i.p).
True, he developed a fear of flying, and made the mistake of thinking doctors could help him. They kept piling on the scripts. He liked to drink, and he was taking Prednisone and paracetamol so was retaining fluid. He kept pushing himself to continue to play his music- he loved to play his music for people, but his body wasn't strong enough to carry on at that pace. Yes, he was a true artist, and he died too young. Rest in Peace Rory- we won't forget you.
Doctors are worthless. This beautiful man was taken too soon from us all. I truly love him.❤
Doctors and psychiatrists have killed plenty of talented and creative people. There's a whole list. In music and other performing arts. Either destroyed by regular prescription drugs or they committed suicide because of the psychiatric drugs which are known to have that as a side effect. Like Chris Cornell for example. Jill Janus also. And the brilliant interpreter of Bach's keyboard works on the piano, Canadian Glenn Gould. Died basically from the horrible side effects of psychiatric drugs. Axl Rose was smart enough to stop taking the lithium carbonate for bipolar disorder or that probably would have killed him as well. Tom Petty died from combined drugs for his hip fracture and anxiety. The list goes on.
Yes I quite agree but as he said that is theblues
@@meself349 Of course Doctors have killed but shows industry too : imagine 200 hundreds gigs per year is much too much
@@dominiquepaul6877 damm right.....
Rory and me without a spare string between us, these are my memories.....Gary Moore
This is a fantastic performance. Rory is on fire. So much expression in his face when he sings and plays the guit.
Absolutely incredible. I am just speechless. Such a fantastic performance from the greatest guitarist who ever lived. Miss you, Rory!
Rory Gallagher,Jimi Hendrix,Gary Moore,Prince are in my heart forever
Is there anybody here who can stand still? Blues, Sweat, and Tears! RIP, RG..luvya!
Agree with all your comments. Saw him live only once. Feel I've wasted my life not seeing him a lot more times. I think we all feel we're his number one fan. Jesus with a guitar, amen
Jesus with a guitar I've never heard that before haha.
Mr Gallagher doing some crazy ass taping soo advanced to that time people in there dont know wtf their see AMAZING
That harp player, unbelievably, was having a few drinks in a Dublin pub, and got up to jam with a band I led when I was living in Dublin. He slid right in on one of my own original tunes called 'Down in L.A.' and played some amazing harp. It was a sodden Irish pub kind of affair, great fun!!
Greatest Guitar-Player of all times R.I.P.Rory -- hope see you in Walhalla
Flannel shirt wizard!!
I WAS THERE ! On the right side, the place was crowded. It is the Wiener Stadtfest (the Vienna City Festival). Occurs every year in may. Takes places in the streets. Shows are free
And I can give you the exact location : "Am Hof" in Vienna 1st district
King,king, king ---Rooooryyyyyy
Rory the Best RIP
Gone but never forgotten. Thank you Rory for your great music.
great guitarist
I love vienna, i love rory gallagher... OMG!!!
A lot of people say rory was underrated not to his fans he wasn't in top guitar players off all time it's always hendrix clapton page bla bla bla they say van Halen invented finger tapping no he didn't rory was doing that in the seventies he just didn't do it as much as van Halen us Rory fans know who the number one is Lee Hambleton from Sheffield
Mark Feltham. Long time Rory collaborator. I read somewhere that he played blues to Rory when on his deathbed. Leads his own band Nine Below Zero. They had Gerry McAvoy on bass for a while recently too, I think..
The music had mellowed and become more measured, orderly and paced since I first saw Taste in the Cavern Club, Cork City in 1969...a great prepandemic concert...Jeesuus I miss it all.
I had to wrap up in a blanket cuz I got the chills. He was the best. That guitar playing, just can't get any better.
He still scares the shit out of guitar players! And, he passed away long time ago
seen RORY 3 times Ulster hall Belfast... so... Good...
Go on Rory!!!!!!!
I got to see Rory live several times and he was magical. Sadly his studio albums never reached the same heights. Gone too soon but we still have videos like this to enjoy.
YES!GONE TOO SOON.COULD NOBODY HELP HIM WITH HIS ALCOHOL PROBLEM!?GREETINGS FROM GREECE..
@@lillyk2315 Yes you are right nobody help him: kind of no assistance to person in danger , but Rory was perhaps strong tempered and not easy to speak to about his weaknesses. Someone told he was suffering of tendinitis , probably pills weren't enough efficient to forget the pain
@@dominiquepaul6877 I think he is now in paradise close to GOD.......free from his fears and pains❤🌹

LEGEND!
Complications from a liver transplant (that became necessary and was nearly successful). His health, however, quickly worsened due to a staph (MRSA) infection. - according to Wikipedia
My most favourite guitarist in the world ever, by far. And in my 61years, I've seen a few, and been one myself for 47 years.
His music fitted Vienna landscape so well.. fantastic music surrounded by gorgeous architecture

I have really enjoyed watching all this footage of rory what my fellow Rory fans put on RUclips I saw Rory twice 1987 and 1988 in Sheffield and I live in hope that one day I will come a cross concert footage from the times I saw Rory Lee Hambleton from Sheffield
thanks wish he was still with us!
He was true talent mate! Died to young! Played from the heart you will always hear the grace note in his playing. He replaced te neck so many times on that guitar due to sweat he use to leave it on a window still to try and straighten it out. Worth a lot of money. Gallagher and Moore best to come out of Ireland.
Rory you may have left us but your music lives in my life & heart never will there be anyone like you thank you for the upload great soundboard going on
Pure of the best Blues in the history of the world's music!!, yes Sir!!
The only man that put Ireland on the map for blues ....
I don't care ×what genre you are he ranks with the greatest
I live the rawness.amps cranked. He had the first-run Marshall Jubilee that came out back then. Screaming amp.
He smoked Clapton like a cuban cigar
A few years ago I picked up Live At Montreux dvd on a whim. Probably the best music dvd I own. Listening to Rory and Taste, my interest in the music of this era has been refreshed. Do yourselves a favor and pick up the BBC Sessions cd. Simply badass. Many thanks to Rory for the great music.
Rory Gallagher comme Phil lynott on eu une vie qui voulais des excès beaucoup trop peut être!!! un talent grandiose...rory sur scène ne trichais pas!!!!de l'Energie de la bravoure et beaucoup de talent a jamais éternel Rory
Rory is the God of guitar on rock blues, also fender strato and telecaster make fame from rory those years as 1 of the best guitar ever.

Eines der besten Konzerte von Rory,...und meiner Meinung;....mit den Besten Musikern, mit denen er zusammen gespielt hat!!!!!
Leider kann man "nur die Beiden" bei nine below zero noch sehen!!!
I am laughing to myself wondering how today’s mega ‘pop’ stars would cope with technical sound breakdowns, Rory had a few problems here... of course he is unstoppable... loving this... many thanks
i was there - many years ago! great performance, great artist!
Mr John, I'm not sure if this was Rory's last gig !??!!! Check it out . Many date's are wrong ! He died in 1995 and played till his last day, so to speak.....
Sorry if I'm wrong .

This is an open air right in the middle of the city of Vienna - at the Hof - Rory felt always very welcomed here in Vienna, and so he passed by very often. Great concerts always very hearty and full of power and respect for each other.
Great musician.
Journalist once asked Jimi Hendrix who he thought was the greatest guitar player, and Jimi replied; "I don't know, go ask Rory Gallagher."
Wow...
Stratosferico e unico !!!!!
Rory never sounded better than this concert he was in a zone .
It isnt just about Rory, his group were always teriffic too.

The ki of of rock and roll, a cork man had great deep feeling for his time like his friends before him. History can be so cruel, yet memory is a gift to be bestowed, when the world stood still, and took stock of things, if we cant work together what hope do we have. I am bl this I know, times they are a changing. The curtain may close, we say farde well to all who ancestry.

Dick Cavett: What does it feel like to be the best guitarist in the world?
Jimi Hendix: I dunno, why don't you ask Rory Gallagher?
I love Rory and Jimi and seen the Cavett interview don’t recall this quote.
@@martshankleman it may have been Mike Douglas. Recollections of that time just a tad hazy!
@@georgerigberg4335 I don’t think story can be true. Jimi was dead long before Rory went solo. He could have seen him in Taste but I’m not sure when, as he was touring in the States when Taste was around. They both played the Isle of Wight festival, but Jimi only arrived there an hour before he was due on, so I don’t think that likely.
