As mentioned before l watched that historic swan song "sign-off" for original Ch. 48-TV, Phila., Penna. metro. area in late-S'mmr, 1983. Sta.'s Gen. Mgr./V.P., late V'ncnt Barresi (who was only in his 30s at time), during his closing commentary said that parent co., Field Communications in mid-July, 1983 announced that it would cease operations, original Ch. 48-TV, Phila., Penna. metro. area as license to run sta. would be returned back to Wash., D.C.-based Federal Communications Commission (F.C.C.). He also announced that sta.'s employees would all go forward in their new careers
Late Vincent Barresi twice worked for original Ch. 48-TV, Phila., Penna. metro. area. He j'nd sta. lst time in 1975 as its Sales Mgr. Then in 1981 he succeeded sta. Ist-timer Kenneth McDonald as its Gen. Mgr. In December, 1982 he parted ways for Chi., Ill. to join staff, Ch. 32-TV there, which was sister sta. for original Ch. 48-TV in "Quaker City", Phila., Penna. But he'd soon return to original Ch. 48-TV, Phila., Penna. metro. area/would be there for that sta.'s late-Summer, 1983 swan song
Exactly 40 yrs. to day, historic swan song "sign-off" for original Ch. 48-TV, Phila., Penna. metro. area, my step-mother, late Gwynne ("Gwynnie") Linton-Hagee died, M.A.C. lung disease in her late-70s. Ironically, when original Ch. 48-TV in Phila., Penna. metro. area went dark in late-Summer, 1983, my mother, late Mrs. Mary C. Hagee was still living. But 2+ yrs. later (in December, 1985) she'd tragically succumb to liver cancer ♋️ after months-long bout w/that disease
How are you so well-versed & familiar with this obscure information, nevermind the station's management staff? Were any employees friends or professional acquaintances of yours decades ago?
At last--the final sign off of WKBS, albeit without any video of Mr. Barresi. It was truly a once in a lifetime moment.
If only Field Enterprises waited one more year, they could've sold 48 and it would be on the air today.
