If you can do while holding the pump above the pool water line, you won't lose any water at all. Regardless between your guidance and that little trick, changing it was a dream!
I have watched 100 videos about my pool and so far your advice was the best as far as changing the filter out...I’m really surprised that the gasket didn’t pop out lol seems to happen to me every time!!
Just followed your own method and it worked like a treat! My head was banging thinking about removing and replacing holes and had to search on here and here you were, the answer to my prayer! Thank you!
Son! You are a man among men! Fist off if you are a Marine thank you for your service. Secondly I am sure you are a Marine because it is cloudy out. Stormy out and lightening. You have just shown the statement is true, "If it is raining we are training!" But seriously. Thank you and thank you for the video!
This was SO helpful thank you so much!!! I’ve been trying to get those set screws off the inside of my pool for a week and finally got annoyed so I googled it and your video came up. Took me 1 min now it’s pumping like new again!!! Very useful!!
I came to RUclips to find an easier way... turns out, I had already done it the easier way (your way!) I lost quite a bit more water than you did though. But our pool was also filled higher. Now I know what those black pieces are for! :-)
Pick it up and put it on something. It's gravity fed and when you pick it up it won't flow against gravity. My 5 year old son pointed that out to me. As I flooded the yard exasperated with not being able to make that gasket be still...
Omg, thank you so much. It worked. But what I did was put sandwich bags over the filters on the inside of the pool. Only water I lost was when I lifted the filter out of the canister to put the new one in. Thank you for making this video, greatly appreciated!!
Haha, I like this guy's attitude. This is how I did it, not sure why I decided to watch a video on it afterward. It took me a little longer to get the top back on but I'm thinking it should be ok.
Good idea! I just lifted my pump up above the pool water line and unscrewed the top. That way no water comes out at all. Only thing you have to do is prime it again before you start it.
Omg, this is the best damn pool video ever. Hilarious. Yet informative for others. We came to this same conclusion last year ourselves! 😆 "This is too complicated, just get it out real fast, close it up, and rinse it off!" It's definitely good to replace it every so often too.
My neighbor just took mine out the same way. I didn't have one to replace so she said it would be okay until I get new filters. She said they have reusable ones. what I saw were blue foam at walmart and amazon-same price. This is awesome bc I can't do beans when it comes to this stuff.
@@777gailzy 🤣 Oh thank goodness for your neighbor then! It definitely takes time and learning with these pools! I will say that I'm glad we upgraded our pump this year from that kind. We got a bigger one because no matter what we did, it wasn't keeping up with our 3000+ gallon pool. It was always green. Did okay when we had the smaller pool with the blow up ring, but upgraded from that one when my daughter grew, and even then it needed lots of rinses. About once a week we had to rinse it. Replaced it once a month. I never saw the blue reusable ones! That's neat. I will say if you ever get a bigger pump, don't get the poly balls. They need replacing every time too apparently. 🤦♀️ Guess who rinsed theirs until they get replacements though? 🙋♀️🙋♀️🙋♀️ 😅 but definitely not as easy to rinse as the filter in the video here. But we shall try sand next time. Got the whole family out there stepping on them to squeeze the gunk out while I rinsed em with the hose. Hey, if it can be done, it can be done! 😅 Pool looks fantastic now! I think I'm finally getting the hang of this thing! 😆
You betcha this helped ! Set everything up and didn't get a filter till yesterday and I really didn't want to take those filters off from the inside, thanks!
Thanks for the video! There is an easier way yet! Just bring out something to set the pump on above the water line then you can easily remove the filter without losing any of the water. I tried your technique and the o-ring kept popping out when I tried to recap it because the water flow was too strong. I was unable to make it work easily. So I just elevated the pump above the water line and it was super easy. Then after recapping you just let water run down in to the pump to re-prime it by keeping the top knob loose. Boom you're good to go! Also this works well when you want to just wash the filter not replace it. You can extend the life of the filters if you wash them once a week.
Gotta say. You were right! So much easier than finding the stupid little plugs and plugging them in. You were much faster than me and I think I lost more water but I was able to get it back on and start the filter with no problem. Thank u for your video!
Thank you for your video. I also saw another video that suggested placing the pump on a pedestal to prevent water runoff. So your idea first and then the other one solved my problem. Thx
😄🤣 I enjoyed your video. That is exactly how I wanted to do it. Glad to see it worked! Thanks bud! I've seen a few of your videos, and they have been helpful. 🍻
Issue with this is when you take out that old filter contaminants left behind in the filter housing will seep right back into your new filter IF done this way. Also when you pull the filter it is a good time to inspect the health of your pool pump specifically the model shown, there are two screws securing the pump to the filter housing assembly that are subject to rust. I recommend dumping the water in the canister and wiping the surface walls to eliminate any left behind residue that may wreck havoc on your pump, fittings, and chemical balance of your water.
Yeap if you take the pump above water level you can drop remaining in pump dirty water and take your time wiping the filter or you can have two of them so you replace the filter and you have more time to clean the other one properly
I looked at the manual, thought "eh?", scratched my head and asked Google. That is where I found this video. Thank you so much. 2 minutes, job done 😊 Yes my feet got wet but I can handle that, I'll be wet all over when I get in.
This aint the way the book says. You said I could say this in the comments so I just had to :-). I've been standing mine up on something higher than the pool to swap out but I like your way even better. Thanks for the video.
My sister called and asked to swim in my pool, and I knew my filter needed to be changed and of course my husband is at work so this video helped me so much. More water leaked out of mine when I tightened it up but as soon as I plugged it the water no longer leaked.
Thanks so much for this advice! I ALMOST went to unscrew the filter caps in the pool but then realized that that tiny thing would sink to the bottom if I didn’t catch it.
I just unplug the pump and place it on a table above water level, unscrew the top and the water will drain down. Swap it and screw back. Place back on the ground and all set.
Like Leah said in a comment below, if you set the pump on a stool or ladder that is higher then the water level, when you unscrew the top the water will not even spill out!
Awesome!..my wife just asked me to do it and i started lookong for the plug hats, etc etc...I'll lose the gallon of water and save 20 min of my life..thank u sor!
I did the same the first time, now I raise the pump up on a table don't loose any water other than when you pull filter out. Let me know if you've tried it
Yes that is an easier way but to add a bit of caution. Around that lid is a black rubber piece that keeps the pump sealed. If you take the top off like that, the water gushing out can lift the seal and remove it. Just be aware when you try this.
Thank you for your sharing the easy way to change the filter it made me laugh and makes so much sense! It was alot easier to do it your way!!!!😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅
I actually did that and it's definitely easier and worth spilling half a gallon of water. I'm with you all the way on that however, when i tried that the O ring water seal that sits between the housing and lid came loose on mine and the pressure of the water spilling out wouldn't let me properly sit it back on. That was my issue. I do have to say that I haven't tried again. Might work the next time around.
Stumpmeister I had just one and I had a terrible time time getting it back in it seemed like it was too big than the lid I left it out for now and I'm going to lift it above the waterline and do it that guy's way yeah :-)
What’s your suggestion if the lid is on too tight? I physically can’t open it and I’ve tried everything. Husband refuses to help. I’m a stay at home mom and he works so he won’t help with anything doing with the house? Is there any kind of tool or wrench or easy way to open the pump up to change the filter? Please help it’s been needing changed for days and I cannot for the life of me open it and I know if I ask someone else to help it will be an issue PLEASE SOMEONE HELP ME
Hi, I have an intex pool 10ft round 30inch. My filter is likeyour size that you show. it's gray just like yours. but the filter is only half the size so what I'm asking you is do I do it the same way. My neighbor took mine out and it's only about 6inches high. I ordered 12 of them from walmart for 23.00. She said they sell reusable ones. The only ones I saw were made of blue foam.
I believe you should be able to do it the same way. I've found that if you set the pump on something above the waterline then take the top off you won't loose any water.
Does the pump manual really say that??? Lol omg 😂 i had no idea... Well I been doing it the way you've done here the whole time lol. Hey if you pick the pump up off the ground...the water wont come out. That is what i do. I pick it up take it out if it needs cleaned i clean it
If you can do while holding the pump above the pool water line, you won't lose any water at all. Regardless between your guidance and that little trick, changing it was a dream!
Water dynamics at its finest! That’s what I figured but wanted to see if I was missing anything.
ruclips.net/video/jRknTlTgBeI/видео.html
Would the same apply to swapping out the entire pump? Mine just stopped running.
Best advice ever. I had not thought about that. I just got a pool and I've been trying to figure how to do it. I'll be using the pool ladder. Thanks
You are 'THE' Man. 👍🏼🙏🏼👏🏽
I have watched 100 videos about my pool and so far your advice was the best as far as changing the filter out...I’m really surprised that the gasket didn’t pop out lol seems to happen to me every time!!
Can you please do a follow-up video demonstrating how to unplug and plug the pump back in? This is the only piece I'm missing. Thanks!
kicknotes I know! He totally lost me when he decided not to show us that part 😭😂 #sendhelp
🤣🤣🤣
I almost stopped watching until he said that....then I was like "okay?"..im glad I watched the whole thing.

Just raise the pump a little, set it on a lawn chair or something, then the water wont come out and you can take al the time you need.

My husband has Covid and couldn’t help me change the filter so this video was a life saver. Thank you!

Eric Starin what do you mean by prime it?
@@charbrie--mommyspitler4400 I think he means getting it under pool water line again and make sure the pressure comes back

I’m late to this video, but thank you for helping!! 😊
Easy peasy. I like this guy.
Great tip, thank you! 👍
Thank you so much! That was so easy!
I just unplug the pump and place it on a table above water level, unscrew the top and the water will drain down. Swap it and screw back. Place back on the ground and all set.
Thank you sir! Great video ill be doing this now and not have to mess with those little black plugs that don’t even fit either way.

Like Leah said in a comment below, if you set the pump on a stool or ladder that is higher then the water level, when you unscrew the top the water will not even spill out!

Great advice… set the pump on a table or something above water level, and you won’t have any water loss.
This is awesome I love this ....!!!!! Who cares what the A through Z people say!!! I love it!!!
It seems alot more water comes out if mine but wanted to make sure this way was going to work before taking it all off and switching fhem iut
To the point. I like that. Cheers!
You remind me of my late daddy. He was no nonsense!
Thank you!💕😊
If you set the filter about 2-3 ft above the lines when changing it, no water will come out and you can work more slowly.
You are a genius........ thank you
Well you can put your pump above pool water level so you won't have to be quick. nive video

Pure common sense in a world full of dumasses...Thank you sir!!!!
Thank you. This helped. It was leaking on the top of the filter. UGH! At least I know I did it right, even if it still drips.
HECK YEAH!!!!👍👍👍

Anybody else notice the lightning
Meow Slimez lol
Yes
This is how I do mine, except today the ring gasket wouldn’t go back on. Lost lots of water.
How important is the ring gasket?
Thanks 😊
Does the top part leak water for anyone else? Changed gasket which pool store said was fine. Seems like its not sealing.
I just did this method for the first time. Lost some water but its definitely quicker.
I did the same the first time, now I raise the pump up on a table don't loose any water other than when you pull filter out. Let me know if you've tried it
Yes that is an easier way but to add a bit of caution.
Around that lid is a black rubber piece that keeps the pump sealed.

That’s how I change my filter 🙌🏻
How do you keep that o ring in place??
Faster than changing tires at Nascar!
Thank you for your sharing the easy way to change the filter it made me laugh and makes so much sense! It was alot easier to do it your way!!!!😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅
We leave the pump running and rinse the filter. No water comes out when leaving pump on
awesome!! ima try this right meow!!
Kinda worked.. pimp is leaking alot now tho :/

Like they say on the jobsite: "If its stupid but it works, then it ain't stupid."
Lol that’s exactly what I did. I just add a little more water. 👍🏻👍🏻🤣🤣 btw some lightning back there. Lol.

Update. I tried this method again only with much more caution, slower gentle movements and works great.
How many o-rings are in the lid to pump housing. Is there an O-ring in the lid and another one in the pump housing ? Or is it just one ??
Stumpmeister I had just one and I had a terrible time time getting it back in it seemed like it was too big than the lid I left it out for now and I'm going to lift it above the waterline and do it that guy's way yeah :-)
In his next video, Tom will be discussing lawn repair techniques.
Storms a'comin!!!!!
How often do you have to replace it?
I leave the pump running when I do this and it seems to leak less water.
chance of shock is why you pull the plug!
