Ben Nevis, the highest mountain in the British Isles, is close to where I live. I've been up it many times in summer and winter but not for many years. The most popular route is the pony track up the rather unspectacular western flank. A far more enjoyable route is to follow the Carn Mor Dearg arete which gives you wonderful views of the North Face of the mountain. I decided to camp on the summit of Carn Mor Dearg because, well, I like camping on the tops of mountains. It also gave me a chance to enjoy the sunset and sunrise. In the morning I was fortunate enough to enjoy a pretty amazing cloud inversion thanks to the high pressure that was sitting over Scotland for weeks. Suffice to say the weather is rarely this good on Ben Nevis.

Remember that hiking and mountain climbing can be dangerous. The videos on my channel are for entertainment only (other than where specified). Always prepare well and be willing to abandon a trip if it becomes dangerous due to weather or unexpected trail conditions. If you are new to hiking and the great outdoors it's always a good idea to go with a guide or a more experienced companion.
And remember - give the wildlife some space, leave no trace, go quietly and enjoy it out there!
A word on drones - I know how annoying it is to hear a drone whizzing about when you are trying to enjoy the peace and solitude of wild places. I'm also aware of the potential to disturb wildlife with them. I always avoid flying the drone when there are other hikers around. It's one of the reasons I tend to hike at less popular times of day and in mid-week and I avoid using the drone if I do see others nearby. I never fly a drone towards wildlife or where birds are likely to be nesting.

Beautifully put together, sounds and visuals.
Thanks. Hopefully gives a sense of what it was like to be up there above the clouds.
Absolutely stunning footage 😮 Been up The Ben for sunrise, but not done the arete so far. Hopefully next spring.
Thank you. The arete is fantastic. Not too difficult and gives an amazing view of the north face of the ben. I've been along it a few times now and this was the second time with a cloud inversion. Hope you get some decent weather when you go.
Que hermosas imágenes de la naturaleza
Gracias 😊
Stunning footage. So nice just to soak in the scenery. Beautiful.
Thanks. Glad you enjoyed it :-)
Thats nicely filmed. You put a lot of thought and effort into that. Deserves more views. Well done.
Thanks for watching. Hopefully the views will pick up!
great film! didn't look like much room for a tent up there!
Thanks. Not much room at all. Wasn’t level either. Thought I was going to roll off the mountain in the middle of the night.
Beautiful vid, nice pace and tone
Thank you. ☺️
Expectacular!!!
Gracias. Es un lugar muy hermoso.
I'm new to climbing mountains, I've done scaffell pike and snowden.. I want to add Ben Nevis to the list shortly, your video has made me want to do that 1000 times more! Beautiful views
Really happy that it’s inspired you. That’s pretty much the aim of my little films. Hope you get some great weather when you go there. Well worth exploring other mountains in the area too. The Mamores on the other side of Glen Nevis are a personal favourite. Lots of great ridge walking.
Espectacular
Gracias!
Beautiful footage as ever Jim, thanks very much for that.
Thanks for watching 😊
@@Jim_Manthorpe-hiking always a pleasure 👍
Stunning hike
One of the best in Scotland.
Those colours at sunset were incredible and the final drone shot which captures both CMD and the Ben was stunning. Thank you for sharing this amazing video 👍 Dave
Thanks. Appreciate the comments. Well worth being up there for the last light of the day.
Bonito
