- Refuel is easy! Just keep speeding up and following the directions. ha!
That's me playing on FCEU. (lol, sorry for the window adjustment at the start). And yes, I can do this on the real NES. I play this since 1990.
I love how it feeds more missiles to the plane through that little pipe!
I waited 30 years to see the most anticlimactic scene in gaming
OMFG, you did it...
I had this game as a kid and in that time i've probibly tried to refule hundreds of times, but have never succeeded.
and that's how babies are made
You know what I like the best about this?
The fact that the fuel line doesnt just refuel your craft, but somehow sends missles down it to re-arm you with! lol
almost a mach 2 refuel, nbd
I always had trouble when I was a kid at the refueling stage lol. seems so simple watching this again.
When i was 7 when this game came out, we couldn't figure where the boom was meant to connect. One of us eventually did it by accident. We were kings that day, lol
I always found it amazing how goddamn fast you have to be going.
Yeah, what kind of refueling plane goes almost mach 2?
Refueling is easy, the instructions can be confusing, so just ignore them, and as he said, just speed up and move left or right and thats it, it is much, much easier than landing.
Bad continuity: a Navy fighter(the F-14) is refueling from a U.S. Air Force KC-135, which it can do, however, the probe which is deploying is not designed to refuel Navy fighters, they need the “Drogue-type” refueling probe!
The nozzle on an F14 is on the right hand side of the nose, not the middle
Everyone is talking about the missile count going up, while I'm more fixated on the fact that a KC-135 Stratotanker, which uses the proprietary USAF refueling boom system, is refueling an F-14A Tomcat (which is supposed to be fitted with the more universal Probe and Drogue refueling system on the right side and forward of the canopy) just like an A-10. They could've made the aircraft a KC-135MPRS, which uses the true to life refueling system. And yeah, the speeds are totally off, at above Mach one. Not only is the game frustratingly difficult, but they got so many things wrong such as this.
The more you know
I do believe the game was rushed to meet a deadline at the time. They were also scrambling to figure out what to 86 because the cartridge has memory limitations. That's why the game has 4 levels
@Wnivre They actually do that. On long flights fighters had to refuel while in the air over a long stretch of ocean cuz they couldn't land.
I always rage quit when it came to refueling and landing.
There are two versions, this one also has an end-of-level score tallying sequence that doesn't happen in the other one, and the aircraft carrier is SLIGHTLY more detailed when you're taking off and successfully landing.
I wish it was a basket, not a boom.
I'm sure that the USAF KC-135 Stratotanker is doing 1394 KNOTS (1608 MPH) to refuel a jet.
keep in mind that is more than mach 2.
awesome, i never got to do it myself
THe hard part is most people don't know how to accelerate. That's the problem; you have to speed up so that the nozzle is right in your face, then follow directions. Check his airspeed at connection, it was almost like 1,200 or something
best job in the airforce, bein a boom operator that is
Mission 3 has you destroying aircraft carriers and mission 4 has you destroying a launch pad for a space ship.
Gotta refuel those missiles.
I was 11 or 12 when that game came out and had no problem landing or refueling the plane. I even destroyed the space shuttle at the end. I wasn't pissed at all, never bothered with the sequel though.
Ive played this game since 1991 to 1995 but i fueled it once because it so hard
That’s a Mach 2.3 refueling. 😂
I love how your missile count goes up when RE-FUELING :P
In-flight refuel at Mach 2... O yes that's very realistic.
@Firebert True, I was just pointing out these gamevids are more real when you use the original hardware when possible. I play emulated NES games too but it feels kind of synthetic playing it on modern computers, plus I miss the old school controllers.
If it is F-14 that is depicted here, it should be a hose & drogue system, not boom plug.. It's the Navy and Marine Corps way.
I would not call this game "realistic" in any way. Lol
Edit: also the hose is attached at 1300 ml/h (I think that means MPH?)
It looks like the plane needs more gas to fill up the blood level
Man, the sexual tension was high.
I don't think i ever accomplished this feat. But i don't expect to considering the plane depicted above, probably a KC-135 stratotanker, can only fly to a maximum speed of around 580mph. There are no tankers that can fly over mach 2. So i'm not to blame
0:30 580 mph. is the KC-135 Tanker's MAXIMUM SPEED, so it gets really stupid after this. 0:35 Now, the KC-135 and the Tomcat are both SUPERSONIC.
A gaming God.
Man you beat AVGN at something. CONGRATS. just for fun you should show AVGN this
What the hell. I bet it's easier to refuel in a real fighter jet. And at least in real life, the tanker doesn't fly away.
0:43 what’s with the humming sound?
I was 8 years old i think when i played this game and i've spent ours and ours for landing and refueling!!! But i made it!!! ;-)
Amazing Nes!!!
Maybe he uploaded it just to show how freaking difficult it is to refuel. The fact that he succeeds is just due to a fact that there is always a dude on the internet who can do almost impossible things.
If the game told you that you had to hit the X-mark with the nozzle in the lower screen it'd be a fuckton easier.
Like Castlevania 2 or Zelda 2 all over again. If you KNOW what you have to do, the game is easy!
I wasted my whole childhood trying to get that right. Never happened.
... I love how he doesn't even TRY to edit out the fact that it's an emulator
Whats wrong with emulators??
17 years to know how to fucking lock in the refuel!
Well, if you watch the AVGN's Review for Top Gun, you can actually hear some Gameplay Music for the Refueling Part.
I understand now... When I played this game i never could do that, for a simple reason : I didn't speak english and I didn't know what meant right, left or increase speed... Haha, in foreign countries like France, these games were not translated ! And I was furious against this game and, as many kids, I was yelling this game was impossible and it had to be a mistake ! Nostalgia...
I noticed that too...
I could never get hooked up properly on this. However, that was probably because I didn't know the controls were different from what they seemed.
i agree, the keyboard DOES NOT equal the NES controller.
Or, you could look at the radar at the bottom of the screen, and see where the thing is actually supposed to go.
refueling was easy. now landing.... thats another story.
@Firebert Why the hell not? OP doesn't have $4 or so to spare? Everybody had this game, over the years I accumulated 4 copies of it without even trying.
@Torbstar
yeah and without an original controller instead of the keyboard
I've beat it, all you do is fly towards the sky that will avoid everything and any kind of contact til the bosses, the beat the boss and you win.
wow, it was so impossible to refuel
KC-135 PLT ……Chuck Norris
Q.E.D
ok so whats the speed up button on the nes controller message me back asap
It has sound delay because it records the sound in real time, but the video faster then the sound, depending on the fps you have it set at.
Heh, nice that it also rearms you!
I was never able to pass this part. Finally, gave up and just quit.
This whole game is just one giant That's What She Said.
so proving that avgn doesnt really try or look at the bottom left of the screen to get the line to the X
Can’t remember if I ever did that. Maybe once
You must be a REAL pilot!!
When I was a kid, this was the easiest part of the game for me. I blundered into missiles more often than anything else, and crashed more than once. Hell, I just replayed this before coming here and I still fucking crashed during the final landing sequence. Good thing I still had one life left.
you is the man
Ah, but did you finish the rest of the level?
(Well you probably did if you could re-fuel it.)
Agreed, Refueling is always easy, its the landing that is hard as hell >:(
@ScubaSteveM45 Just because I CAN buy a Nickelback CD doesn't mean I SHOULD buy a Nickelback CD.
So that's what I had to do all along? That's way fuckin' EASY!
I always tought I had to engage it on the tip of the plane, for some reason.
Meh, back to the NES!
dude i've never heard of a person who's finished this game...
I never had difficulties with refueling. Landing was hard....
that was hard as hell for me
You have to break the sound barrier to refuel? I didn't know that KC-135s flew that fast...
It's still not a fair task since they never tell you to speed up just to kep switching directions
Dude I seriously want your screen capture software...
I've went as fast as that, (no, FASTER than that,) and i "miss connected".
They can fit MISSILES down that tiny tube? XDDD
Not all of us has the privilege of owning an NES system that still works fine, you know. Unless you are telling me that in order to be considered a gamer, you HAVE to own a working NES and play games on it only.
Yea, it isn't tough, you just need to keep increasing your speed and adjust left and right. Like heavistv369 said, James (AVGN) can do it, he just pretends he can't for the comedy.
@ugilick I don't think he's terrible at games. I think he's either acting or just impatient and/or frustrated when it comes to playing "shitty" games.
@Ollie7475 Course that's because the comment removed was made so long ago.
you made it! Wow!
its old school man :)
Eh, it was hard as a kid, but it got pretty easy as an adult.
I just wish you didn't have to wait for your fuel to run low on every mission.
Ya I remember. It was either this or Descent PC game?
Or we were doing something stupid outside throwing rocks at people? That was you not me.
@mike649fox
Cheers to that
this game is very possible edwardorito, I watched my dad beat all four missions. It's NOT as hard as some ppl make it out to be really.
Wasn't the Refueling Sequence supposed to have Music?
LuigianoMariano The Nes version has BGM in the refueling, but, in the Famicom version has BGM in all game, less in the refueling sequence.
Can't pass most of the time as i don't know how it's done...same as the landing...😥😥😥 i wish there was you tube then...🙄
I can land and refuel on the NES, it is no different from the ROM.
Welp ! Had the game and only refueled once !
Looks like this is the Japanese version, as there's no music at all and the drogue makes noise while going down...
cracked sent me here
If this video is supposed to be saying "Oh look i'm better than The Nerd", no.
You know, he can probably do it. It's just obviously more funny to fail at it and scream "ASS!".
No way, I didn't think it was possible to do this.
wtf music after fueling?
How did you reverse the music? Is that an emulation option?
By reverse, I mean, music is playing when I usually is not. And then when there is not supposed to be music, music is playing.
@@BlueV101 This is actually the original order. It's the Japanese version. On the American they flipped when use the music. I think this original one fits way better. Music for the action and silence for tense moments!
@@IvanOdintsoff well, consider me uncultured. 🤣 RIP childhood. 😅
why aint that comment from mike649fox in the highest rated? its got like 700 fuken thumbs up!
Refueling gives you missiles ?
