the gypsy robe is a robe given to an ensemble member at the opening night of every musical. a part of the robe is decorated in honor of said show, and then passed on to a chorus member in the next show that opens. once the robe is covered in decorations, a new robe is started. there are more rules and technicalities, but that's the gist of it.
